Mrs. Garner Nicholson opened the meeting by reading the hymn, “Standing at the Portal.” Mrs. Lottie Scott read scripture Psalm 65. Mrs. Mac Scott led in prayer. Roll calf was answered by a verse on “Years” The secretary ’ s report was given by Mrs. RobenaMcBurneywho also gave a year-end review. Mrs. Cloakey gave the treasurer’s re­ port. Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple read some poems “The Old Things,” “The Little Country Things,” “For this New Year” and “It Couldn’t Be Done.” Mrs. Nicholson read an in People around Belgrave Friends and neighbours of this community extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Procter and family of RR 4, Brussels and Mr. and Mrs. Murray Procter and family of London in the loss of their mother and grandmother Mrs. Dorothy Procter. I memoriam on Dr. Margaret Kenn­ edy whopassedawaylastyear. She served in India between 1939 and 1977. Dr. Kennedy received her Honorary Doctor of Divinity de­ gree from Presbyterian College, Montreal in 1978. Her witness has helped to build the church in India . special service of thanks. Mr. and Mrs. Lome Jamieson; Doug Hanna and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown of Stratford at the Victorian Inn on Sunday afternoon. ■ — I. ■ > -------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- ------------------ ----------------- The Family of Gordon & Louise Bosman invites you to an Open House Sunday,January18 Institute Hall, Belgrave 2p.m.-4p.m. ucw anniversary marked The 25th Anniversary Year of the United Church Women was celebrated at a special church service on January 11 in Knox United Church, Belgrave. The Call to Worship was given by Mrs. William Coultes who conducted the service. An organ­ piano prelude of sacred selections was presented by Mrs. George Procter, church organist and Mrs. George Johnston. They also ac­ companied the hymns which were relevant to the special service. The choir sang “The Cross of Jesus” with organ accompani­ ment. Mrs. G. Ross Anderson read the same two scripture readings Psalm 95:1 -7 and Romans 8, as were used at the inaugural service atthe U.C.W. in January, 1962. The second scripture passage Matt. 26: 6-13 was given by Mrs. Ross Higgins. A review of the Belgrave U.C.W. relating the major achievements of its two groups, the Afternoon Unit and the Evening Auxiliary since 1962 was read by Mrs. Olive Bolt. This local history included the minutes of the first Belgrave U.C.W. meeting which was held January 11, 1962, and a list of all the presidents from 1962 - 1987. Two floral arrangements were in the sanctuary in memory of the late Mrs. Dorothy Procter, a member of the Belgrave Afternoon Unit. A candle lighting service was conducted by Mrs. Alice Scott, Mrs. Harold Vincent and Mrs. John Campbell. Mrs. Scott, the first president of the Belgrave U.C.W. 1962 lit a candle for the past. She stated “With pride we look back on the work which the women have done in the church. It has been an essential part of the church’s life.” The Candle for the present was lit by Mrs. Harold Vincent who is the 1986-1987UCW president. The present highlights to remember are: fellowship, support, joint efforts, opportunities and mean­ ing. The third candle which stands for the future was lit by Mrs. John Campbell. With it, she said, we acknowledge our need for God’s guidance in decisions and direc­ tion. Each lighting was followed by prayer in unison. Atthisjuncture in the service Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the communion or Eucharist which appropriately coincided with the TOWNSHIP OF EAST WAWANOSH Public Meeting Concerning a Proposed Comprehensive Zoning By-Law TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of East Wawanosh will hold a series of public open houses, as indicated below, to consider the proposed comprehensive zoning by-law. OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE Tuesday, February 17,1987 Drop in anytime between 1 -4p.m.;7-9p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 1987 Drop in anytime between 1 -4p.m. Location - East Wawanosh Township Municipal Office, 1.5 miles West of Belgrave. The open houses are deemed to be public meetings under Section 34 [12] of the Planning Act; they provide a flexible timetable to suit the majority of ratepayers and an opportunity to consider and discuss specific concerns. Everyone is welcome to drop by anytime to discuss the by-law with Council or a County Planner. The proposed zoning by-law affects the entire Township of East Wawanosh as shown on the attached map below. It implements the East Wawanosh Township Secondary Plan by establishing land use controls and zones in the Township. ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed zoning by-law. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the proposed zoning by-law is available at the Township Office in East Wawanosh during normal business hours, or alternatively by contacting the Huron County Planning Department [524-2188]. In addition, a draft copy of the proposed by-law has been sent, for information purposes, to all owners of property as noted on the latest revised assessment records. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Stanley Black; novelty lady, Mrs. Clarence Hanna; low lady, Mrs. Eva McGill; high man, George Johnston; novelty man, Clarence Hanna; low man, Leslie Short.
