A warm seat on a cold day appealed to [from left] Greg Toll, 8, and his brothers Bryce, 4, and Andrew, nearly 2, as grandpa Aubrey Toll prepared Clydesdale herd sire Lloyd’s Creek Dan for a portrait session last Sunday. The Tolls have been famous for their Clydesdales for three generations. 1987-88 officers elected for Blyth Sunshine Unit The Sunshine Unit of the Blyth United Church Women met on January 8 with 18 answering the roll with a verse from the book of Psalms. Evalena Webster opened the worship period with the singing of the hymn, “He Leadeth Me . She read a story which illustrated the Christian principle that people need not worry about far away steps as long as the few steps ahead are clear, for “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet andalightontomy path’’. Mary Wightman read a poem, “God Knows’’ which was used by King George VI in World War II. Ruby Pattison took the study, “Native peoples in Nicaragua.” Members learned that the Miski- tos are the largest group of natives which has retained its own langu age. In Nicaragua there are two aggressive, opposing groups to contend with, the Contras and the Sandanista. There is an uneasy relationship between the two groups, although slow progress is being made. Co-leader Evelyn Smith thanked Evalena, Mary Wightman and Ruby Pattison for their part in the meeting, and gave a few inspiring thoughts on how to have a happy 1987. Committed people, she said, look forward, not backward. The new slate of officers for 1987-88 are as follows: Evelyn Smith and Mary Wightman, co leaders; Feme McDowell and Melda McElroy, secretary and back-up; Myrtle Vodden, treasur er; Mary Holland, assistant trea surer; Lenora Davidson, corres ponding secretary; Ollie Craig, program convenor; Gene Snell, birthday treasurer; Evalena Web- sterandCatherineCaldwell, cater ing convenors; Ida Proctor, Mayme Crawford and Hanny Meier, telephone communicators; Melda McElroy and Marion Wright, special events communi cators; and Rena Watt, Ruby Philp, Melda McElroy and Ella Richmond, pianists.
