she had passed her grade 6 music
exam with honours. Karen is a

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Springer,
Leslie, Pam and Russell are
holidaying at their cottage at Parry
Sound.
Marilyn Moffat is presently visit-
ing with her sisters in Guelph.
We are pleased to report that
Mrs. Lloyd Moffat of Lucknow
returned to her home last Tuesday
after,being a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
John Koobs (Nancy de Boer), who
were married at Langside Presby-
terian Church on Friday afternoon.

Bruce County
Grants totalling $63,305 have
been approved for 11 projects in
Bruce County from the proceeeds
of the Ontario Lottery. 'the
amounts range from $54,000 to
$90.
A grant up to $54,000 is to be
made .to the Chippawa Hill
Amphitheatre to aid in the cost of
constructing the facility on the
Saugeen Indian Reserve.
The Cargill and District Com-
munity Fund is to receive a grant of
$1,817 towards the purchase of
softball, tennis and badminton
equipment.
A grant of $1,500 is to be made to
the First Port Elgin Scouting
Association to defray the costs of
transportation to attend the Boy
Scouts Canadian Jamboree '77 in
Prince Edward Island. •
The First Walkerton Scouts
Association will receive a grant of
$1,165 for travel assistance to
attend CJ '77 in P.E.I.
purchase of camping equipment.
The Corporation of the Township
of Kinloss is to receive a grant of
$1,000 to . aid in the costs of
constructing an addition to the
Whitechurch Community Hall.
A grant of $963 is to be made to
the Hanover and District Minor
Ball Association to aid in the
purchase of baseball equipment.
The Bruce Hoof Beats Horse
Club in Wiarton is to receive a
grant up to $757 to assist in the
costs of constructing a show ring on
the grounds of the Grey-Bruce
Livestock Co-operative.
A grant of $502 is to go to the
First Tiverton Scout Group for
travel assistance to CJ '77 in P.E.I.
A grant of $422 is to be made to
the First Port Elgin Scouting
Association to assist in the
purchase of camping equipment.
A grant of $90 will be made to
the Walkerton Figure Skating Club
to aid in the purchase of a cassette
player.

Mr. and Mrs. William Haldenby
of Kinlough are having a ,sale of
merchandise at theif generl store.
After 20 years in business, they are
selling off their stock, but will
continue to reside in their home,
connected with the store. Bill
advises The Sentinel that there has
been a store at that location, on and
off, for over 50 years.
THAT
Lane Gardner of Zion attended
the 23rd annual Canadian Navy
Veteran's reunion held in Brant-
ford July 15th, 16th, 17th and
reports that :the - reunion will be
held in London in 1978, but
sponsored by Woodstock Navy
Veteran's Association. The 1979
reunion will be held in Peterbor-
ough. The Canadian Navy
Veteran's Association is interested
in forming', a branch club in the
Kincardine, Wingham, Goderich
area and navy veterans who are
interested may contact Lane Gard-
ner, R. 3 Lucknow for further
information.

Robert • G. Shrier, president of
the'Signal-Star Publishing, came to
Goderich in 1961 and became
associated with the late George
Ellis in the Goderich Signal-Star. In
1965 he became the new .owiiier.
Since that time, the compaiiy has
taken many forward steps. In 1966,
a web offset press was installed
which handled the printing require-
ments of 'the Goderich interests. as
well as many other weekly news-
papers in the area.
In November of 1973, the
company moved to its present
location in a new building in
Industrial Park, Highway 21 south.
Over the years, the Signal Star
Publishing purchased several area
weekly newspapers. The Clinton
News-Record was purchased in
1967 and Kincardine News in 1969.
Earlier this year, The Mitchell
Advocate was acquired as well as
other newspaper interests in the
Toronto area. The Huron County
Shopping News is also a Signal-
Star publication.
The Sentinel has printed its
weekly issue at Signal Star
Publishing in Goderich since July
of 1969. All the preparatory work
was done in Lucknow with the
printing completed on the high
speed Goderich press. Well over
twenty newspapers use the central
printing facilities of the company.
The Sentinel has sold the
newspaper only. The stationery
business and printing business will
continue to be operated by Don
Thompson from the present loca-
tion with the assistance of Bev and
Margaret Thompson and Anne
Purney. In addition, Mr. Thomp-
son will continue to operate a
distributorship for Loto Canada
lottery tickets which includes the
counties of Huron, Perth, Oxford
and Brant. He was appointed to
this post one year ago, and since
that time has operated the lottery
distribution in association with the
newspaper.
The newspaper has rented space
in the vacant building of Tony
Johnstone. the former Village
A grant of $1,089 is to be made to
the First Kincardine Scout Troop
for travel assistance to attend CJ
'77 in P.E.I. and to assist in the
Shop, and will commence opera-
tions there on August 15th. The
location is still known to many as
the "Murdie Block".
Tony Johnstone, an employee of
The Sentinel since 1964, will
manage The Sentinel for Signal
Star Publishing. An editor will be
hired to cover the • local news
picture. Sortie of the present staff,
Merle Elliott and Mary McMurray,
will be retained under the new
management.

Mrs. Clifford Mann (Anne Sande),
who were married on Saturday at
Teeswater.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young
visited Sunday evening with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Bongertman. Mr.
and Mrs. Wynne also called at the
same home on Sunday.
Reverend Bev Kay preached his
farewell service at Langside and
Whitechurch Presbyterian Church-
es on Sunday and later that day the
Kay family left for British Colum-
bia. They planned to spend the
night at Tobermory and cross on
the ferry early Monday morning.
Rev. Kay has been appointed to the
Presbyterian Church at Kitimat,
B.C.. and starts in September.
During August Langside Church
will have a series of special services
by different ministers. Next Sun-
day Rev. A. C. Young of Goderich
will preach at both Langside and
Whitechurch.
