Ripley and area Were again deeply saddened when two young people lost their lives by drowning at Emmerton Beach on Lake Huron. The induction service for Rev. John Hill was held at Pine River United Church. There were some anxious mom- ents one afternoon in the village when the fire siren sounded in the midst of a water shut-off as new water equipment was being instal- led on Lucknow's main street. Fortunately the fire alarm was a false one. Two girls from Lucknow were among 2000 Girl Guides from 12 different countries at a camp situated at Morrison and Nairn Islands in the St. Lawrence River. near Cornwall. Linda Boyle and Lynda Walden of Lucknow attend- ed this Heritage Camp. the major centennial project of the Girl Guide Association of Canada. The two girls were members of the Lucknow Ranger Company. 30 YEARS AGO JULY 1947 The Lucknow United Church Sunday School Anniversary and Flower Sunday were combined in a beautiful and impressive service. It was the first flower Sunday to be held in the village. Entrance results at the Lucknow Centre named the following stud- ents: Donald Agnew. Mary Jo Anderson. Vivian Fisher. Shirley Hodgins. Garnet Hamilton, Archie Hamilton, Mary Jewitt, Daisy Kennedy, Evelyn Nixon, Phyllis MacDonald, Roy MacGregor, Jessie MacKenzie, Bertha Milne, Milian Moore, Dorothy Pollock, Pauline Reed, Minnie Richards. Seventeen of the pupils were from Lucknow Public School. Miss Kate MacDonald was teacher. LOCHALSH Mr. and Mrs. Robt. L. White of Cape Cod. Mass. visited the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles as did Mr. and Mrs. John McCharles of Petrolia. Congratulations to Alvin Robb on his recent achievement in the course he took, through Western University. Mrs. Emile MacLennan and Sandy were guests at a wedding in Listowel on Saturday. Jim Bradley underwent surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital. London on Friday last and is progressing nicely. Each week members of the Ashfield Presbyterian Church gath- er for an evening of Bible study. 50TH ANNIVERSARY Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. D. A. MacLennan. who will be SO years married on Saturday, July 23. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wylds visited in London during the past week with their daughters and Warren's sister Doris. SUCCESS STORY When others criticize your work it means that you have really done something worthwhile. Lucknow Man Did In 40th Year WILLIAM S. G. SANDERSON The community was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of William Sanderson, Lucknow, at his home on Friday, July 1st in his 40th year. William Stanford George Sand- erson was born , in Toronto on October 2, 1937. He was a son of Mrs. Gabrielle (Gay) Garniss and the late William Henry Sanderson. On May 16, 1962 at Hillside, Ontario; he married Barbara Mark- le. Following their marriage they resided in Huntsville for a year and for the past fourteen years have been residents of Lucknow. Mr. Sanderson is survived by his wife Barbara, one son Lance, age 13; one daughter Lana, age 11 and his mother: Mrs. Cecil (Gay) Garniss of Lucknow. He was predeceased by his father. The funeral service was held at MacKenzie Memorial Chapel, Lucknow on Monday, July 4th. Rev. A. Cook was minister. Interment was in South Kinloss Cemetery. Pallbearers. were Douglas Gra- ham, Hillside; Daniel Markle, Huntsville; Robert Markle, Orillia; Roy Emberlin and Ross Forster, both of Lucknow; Jim Gardner Jr. of St. George. Flower bearers were Jim French, Kincardine; Lloyd Hill, Hillside; Bob Swan, Toronto; Gerald Mark- le, Toronto. Mr. Sanderson was a member of Lucknow Legion Branch 309. He had previously donated his eyes to the eye bank and through this consideration, someone will now have sight.
