UCW Were Entertained By Nile UCW The ladies of Nile United Church Women were.hostesses to ladies of Dungannon U.C.W. at a meeting at Nile church oh Thursday. July 14. The president. Mrs. Millie John- ston opened the meeting and welcomed the guests. Mrs. Winnie Girvin read the scripture lesson and Mrs. Beth- Rutledge read a poem. Dungannon's contribution was two readings given by Mrs. Dorothy Pentland. Mr. and Mrs. George McBride showed slides of their flouters, scenes from trips they have taken, and many interesting views of. steam engines and horses taken at Blyth Thresher's Reunion or the Plowing Match, some featuring local people known by the viewers. Mrs. Johnston thanked Mr. and Mrs. McBride for sharing their pictures and presented each of them with a gift. The Nile ladies served a delicious lunch and a social time was enjoyed. Whitechurch W.I. WHITECHURCH NEWS Whitechurch Women's Institute held their Resolutions meeting at 8 p.m. July 13 at the home of Mrs. Elgin Johnston. The meeting opened with the president, Mrs. Russel McGuire, in charge of Opening Ode and repeating of the Collect. The roll call was answered with name your beef about living conditions today. Some beefs were unemployment insurance, pensions at 65 and yet holding down another job, Day Care Centre, candy donation to hospital. The motto, Many folks are confusing the high cost of living with the cost of living high, was prepared by Mrs. Bill Evans and given by Mrs. Fred Tiffin, giving suggested ideas as write out a list and stick to it, shop by yotirself, shop once a week, buy in bulk. The auction sale is planned- for August 8th at the hall. Anyone in the community having articles to donate and wish them called for phone 357-2347 or 357-2306 or 357-3648. As bills, which have been sent in, do not cover the expense of 2 sets of outside steps at hall and frig, it is hoped the community will Si. Helens U.C.W. The St. Helens United Church Women met at the home of Mrs. Don Cameron on July 12. All enjoyed a bountiful pot luck supper at 7 p.m. Following the supper, Miss Isobel Miller conducted the worship service. Mrs. Gordon McPherson and Mrs. A. Cook took part in a skit and Mrs. Gordon McPherson conducted the brief business meeting. Mrs. B. F. Green closed with prayer. Luckhow' Calf Club On July 13th, the Liieknow Calf Club held their fourth meeting at the home of the leader, Ken Mewhinney. During this meeting, we took up. our last two lessons which we were quizzed 'on. We were then served a delicious lunch including sandwiches, donuts and pop. The next meeting will be on August 10th which will be .a social evening, as two 4-H members from Ohio %sill be staying at the homes of Grace Alton and David de Boer. Grace and' David were two of the / 26 4-H members from Huron County involved in the 4-H exchange to.Ohio. They spent their week down in Ohio. at the end of June. The social evening will' include a softball game starting at 7 o'clock and then a wiener roast will follow. respond with the articles they no -longer need. On August 16 Whitechurch W.I. will sponsor crafts at Southampton museum. Misses Janet Laidlaw, Karen and Nancy Quipp sang A Mansion Over the Hill Top and It's a Small World. The topic was a panel discussion of the Beefs by all ladies present. Lunch was served by Mrs. Wm. Rintoul, Mrs. Fred Tiffin, Mrs. Dave Gibb. KINLOUGH We are sorry to report that Spence McFarlan is a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. We wish him improved health. We extend sympathy to the Graham family in the sudden passing of the late Roy Graham at Goderich on Friday. The funeral was held at 1 the MacKenzie Memorial Chapel on Monday afternoon. Reg Powell of Milliken, Susan, Lori Ann and Scott Fawthrop of Stouffville spent a few days at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bushell, Bill, Barry and Blair of Wingham spent Thursday evening with Mrs. John Barr and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barr and Susan. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Nicholson and Brandon of Wallaceburg visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott are their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hamilton of Ladner, B.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Collisson of Vancouver, B.C. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bertrand, Marc and Rebecca of Simcoe visited with Miss Winnifred Percy, Bill, and Brian. A number from here attended a benefit dance for Mr. and Mrs. 'yj,tt Walsh and family in the Bervie hall on Friday evening.
