Residents may use their garden hose as required this week but are
requested not to use them after the work commences next Monday,
until it is completed.,
Residents are asked to refrain from washing clothes that day, for
their own protection, and to draw off enough water for morning use.

Church
Celebrates 120th
Anniversary
A record crowd attended St.
Luke's Anglican Church, Pine
River, Sunday, July 3, to celebrate
the 120th anniversary.
The service was held at 3 p.m.
with the rector Rev. J. R. King
conducting the service and the Rev.
S. R. Lupton of Kitchener as the
guest speaker. His text was
"Labour not for the meat which
perishes, but for that meat which
endureth for everlasting life, which
the son of man shall give unto
you". The main theme being that
we should put spiritual needs
ahead of material gains.
The scripture lessons, taken
froth Deuteronomy_chapter 8 and
St. John's, chapter 6, were read by
Grant Collins.
Twenty-two., former choir mem-
bers returned to form a choir for
the service. They sang the two
anthems, "The Church in the'
Wildwood" and "Thank You
Lord", with organist Mrs. William
Collins. The choir, presented a
memorial gift in memory, of their
former choir leader • and organist
Mrs. Elizabeth Emmerton.
A new hymn board will be
dedicated in memory of Mr. and
Mrs. John Emmerton, given by
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Emmerton.
The flowers in the church were
given to the glory of God in
memory of the pioneer families.
Flowers in . memory of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Emmerton were
given by Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Emmerton and family.
Donald Mason, with his P.A.
system, capably transmitted the
service to all who were seated on
the surrounding grounds and also
to those in the Parish Hall.
Following theservice the ladies I
served tea and ake in the parish
hall and a very happy social time
was spent. with the former rectors
Rev. and Mrs. Lupton and family,
Rev. and Mrs. Vollick, also former
parishioners, families, relatives
and friends.
The congregation of St. Lukes
wish to thank everyone who helped
to make their anniversary such a
joyous occasion.
Lucknow Man
Died Suddenly
JOHN R. GARDNER
John Robert Gardner, a long
time resident of Ashfield and
Lucknow, died suddenly Wednes-
day, June 29th, 1977 at the age of
77.
The late Mr. Gardner was the
son of the late William Gardner and
Ida Henry and was born on the 12th
concession, Ashfield Township,
September 4th , 180.
He married Mary E. Helm on
April 19th, 1922. He was a member
of the former Zion Church. They
farmed in Ashfield Township until
retiring to Willoughby Street,
Lucknow, about seven yearS' ago.
Mr. Gardner resided at this
residence until two months ago
when he moved to the Senior
Citizen Apartments.
He was 'predeceased by his wife
Mary, April 20th, 1975 andzpis
sister Hazel, Mrs. Clare Irwin, in
1939.
The late Mr. Gardner is survived
by two daughters, Kathleen, Mrs.
Robert Panter of Denver, Colorado
and Carol, Mrs. Donald Pincolini of
San Jose, California and five
grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow on Saturday, July 2nd
with Rev. Albert Cook officiating.
The pallbearers" were Roy. Hawl-
ey of Oshawa, Robert Panter of
Denver, Colorado, Harvey Houst-
on, Andrew Ritchie, Wm. G.
Hunter and Lloyd Hall, all of
Lucknpw.
Gordon Kirkland and John
Ritchie acted as flower bearers.
Interment was in Greenhill
Cemetery.

and Mrs. Westhaver and Miss
Rose Westhaver, Bert McWhinney
introduced members of Dungannon
congregation.
A delicious smorgasbord lunch
was served by the ladies of Nile
U.C.W.
Mr. Cliff McNeil, as chairman,
called on Warden Doug McNeil of
Colborne, Reeve Warren Zinn of
Ashfield and Reeve/Bob Lyons of
West Wawanosh, to say a few
words of greeting. Rev. St. John of
Auburn also spoke briefly welcom-
ing Rev. Westhaver., Rev. Albert
Cook of Ashfield charge was also
present but had to leave early and
Pastor Zehr of Christian Fellowship
Church was unable to attend due to
illness.
The Official Board held a short
meeting prior to the Induction
Service with an encouraging turn
out.
