and businesses to employ local students.
Students are available now, many of them willing to
do odd jobs, as well as full time work.

"Lions Club Hold
Variety Night
Lucknow and District Lions Club
held a Variety Fun Night Saturday
evening in the Lucknow arena with
a good crowd' attending. Lions
Clubs in the area provided the
entertainment under the direction
of Lion Charlie Webster of Luck-
now. Lion Bob Finlay of Lucknow
was master of ceremonies.
Lion president Stuart Reavie
presented prizes to the winners as
follows: 1st, Bruce Mixers, square
dancers representing the' Formosa-
Lions Club; 2nd, a skit by the
Grade 7 Kingsbridge Girls, repres-
enting the Lueknovv Leo Club; 3rd,
Lucknow 'Kinsmen doing a "Gong'
Show"; honourable mention to Bob
Hall (formerly of Lucknow) of Owen
Sound who sang accompanied by
Phillip Shantz of Owen Sound.
Other entrants in the judging
were: accordian solo ,by Steven
Burke of W'ingham, Wingham
Lions Club; skit by Lucknow
Kinettes; square dance group from
Hillcrest Central School, Teeswater
Lions Club; baton twirling by Tom
Gilmore of Lucknow, Lucknow
Lions Club; vocal duet by Bonnie
and Laurie Clark of . Lucknow,
Lucknow Agricultural Society; voc-
al numbers by Pat King, accom-
panied by Ed Stiles; both of
Goderich, Goderich Lions Club;
Lucknow Silver Seven from the
Lucknow Lions; Mildmay Stepping
Timers, Mildmay Lions Club;
singers from the Ripley Lions Club.
Judges, provided by Kincardine
Lions Club, were Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Meldrum and Dave McKee.
The evening ended with a beauty
contest in which Miss Lucknow
,Lions was 1st; Miss Lucknow
Kinsmen', 2nd; Miss Ripley Lions,
3rd.
Steven Pritchard, vocalist, rep-
resenting the Lucknow Leos and
the Lucknow Public School Band
members were also on the pro-
gram, but they asked not to be in
the judging.
A theory that doesn't allow
for friction will get a hard rub.
The personal equation seems
to be that there is no better half.

ST. HELENS
Weekend visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Don Taylor and Mr. and Mrs.
Ron Sprague were Mr. and Mrs. Al
McRoberts and family of London.
Also visiting with the Taylors were
Mrs. Taylor of Wingham and Mr.
and Mrs. Bev McNay of North
Ashfield. •
VANDALISM
Vandals attacked the St,, Helens
area last weekend when several
mailboxes north of St. Helens were
either partially damaged or de-
stroyed. It's too bad the culprits
haven't better ways to spend their
time.,
John Siecker Sr. was admitted to
Wingham Hospital this week. He
has since been transferred to
Burlington to undergo treatment.
Get well wishes are sent his way.
His family visited with him on
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Humphrey
attended a barbeque at the Baird
home in Turnberry Township. The
barbeque is held annually fOr the
local wolf hunters who hunt
together during the winter season.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Miller, Mrs.
Frank McQuillin, Mrs. Helen 'Todd
and Isobel Miller recently attended
the Salkeld Family Picnic at
Menestung Park in Goderich.
The St. Helens United Church
Women are holding a special
meeting Tuesday, June 21st in the
Calvin United Church. Mr. 'Gordon
McIntyre of Richmond Hill is
presenting a travelogue Qf some of
the countries he has visited.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller' of
Londoh visited with several St.
Helens residents. Visits were made
at Isobel Miller's home, Mr. and
Mrs. Don Taylor and Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Todd.
Work has commenced on a new
home in the village. Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Errington are building a new
house next to their present home.
are two Pinecrest residents and
family, members.

Elliott, 87, formerly of Holyrood
and his son Ellwood of Holyrood,
standing behind. On the . right is
Mrs. Henry (Ellen) Gardner, 86,
formerly of Zion, with her son Lane
Gardner.
Dick has been a resident at
Pinecrest for 1 1/2 years and Nellie,
as Mrs. Gardner is known to her
friends, has been at Pinecrest for 3
years.
The weekend at Pinecrest was
full of activity and many visitors
called over the several days.
On Thursday, Lucknow School
Band entertained at the noon hour.
Music was provided by Blanche
Needham, Harry Lavis and Jean
Conley.
On Friday, Lucknow Senior
Citizens provided entertainment
and Unit 2, Lucknow United
Church Women, played euchre
with the residents.
On Saturday, the Gollan Family
provided music and dancing for the
residents.
On Sunday, Barbara Cameron
played piano numbers and Cathy
Hamilton sang, accompanied by
her mother, Mrs. Bruce- Hamilton.
The Kinettes served the guests
and pouring tea were Edith
Webster, Ada Webster, Mary
Lavis and Annie. Maclntyre.
The Guest Book was in 'charge of
Glenda Park, Vicki Scott, Debbie
and Diane Huffman.
Nursing Home Weekend is
sponsored annually by the Ontario
Nursing Home Association and the
member homes in each community.
Fanshawe Grad
Leo Redmond, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Theodore Redmond of R. R. 2
Auburn, graduated from Fanshawe
College with a three year course in
Business Administration.
He is now employed in Calgary,
Alberta.
