THAT
Jack Henderson of Lucknow
suffered a fractured leg in an
accident on May 23rd. Jack, who is
employed by C and M Transport of
Lucknow, was pinned against the
loading chute while loading cattle
a at the farm Bob 'Scott, Huron
Township. He spent a week in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London and is
now home with his leg in a cast,
and on crutches, for 6 to 8 weeks.
THAT
167 Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs
in district "1 donated $111,736 to the
Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Founda-
tion which was presented at the
Niagara Falls convention. Of this
amount, Lucknow Kinsmen and
Kinette Club donated $1024.

Mr. 'and Mrs. Charles Wilkins
and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wilkins
spent a weekend recently with
relatives in Sudbury and Camping
with their nephew, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Weaver.
Joan Hackett, since school
holidays in London, 'is employed
this summer at Minisfry of Natural/
Resources, south of Wingham.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ritchie and
Carol attended the Sunday church
service and dinner of Lucknow
United Church at Silver Lake, north
of Lucknow. In the afternoon, Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Wall of Teeswater
called at the Ritchie home on her
brother and family.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and
family had Mrs. Gordon Needham
of Ilderton for Saturday supper.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Ritchie and
Bryce visited Sunday afternoon
with her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Culbert and family of Cambridge-
Galt at their summer farm in the
Kincardine district.
Election day is Thursday of this
,week with one polling booth to be
held at the home of Charlie and
Mayme Wilkins.
RECEIVES 4-H HONOURS
Achievement Day for the 4-H
dub girl was held on Saturday at
Brookside Public School, Ashfield
on "Clothes for Leisure -. There
were 17 girls taking part in the two
Trinity Clubs. Joan Hackett and
Donna Hackett received Provincial
Honours (12 clubs). Marion Rayn-
ard and Beverley Wilkins received
THAT
Lucknow United Church congre-
gational church service and picnic
was held Sunday at Silver Lake
Camp. The church service was held
in the outdoor chapel, followed by
barbecued hamburgers, sports and
swimming..
THAT
Tom Morrison of Little Current,
Manitoulin Island, formerly of
Lucknow, found a 1905 copy of the
Lucknow Sentinel behind a picture,
used as backing. The issue had
some interesting local events
recorded, but the headline that
attracted the most attention was
"Crazy Woman Kills Two Patients
and Injures Another In An Insane
Asylum". The event took place in
Concord, New Hampshire.
County Honours (6 clubs).
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Helm and
family were Sunday dinner guests
at the home of his sister Roberta,
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Whytock of
Lucknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilkins
attended the funeral of Hugh
McLeod of Clifford. Mrs. Wilkins
(Mayme Irwin) taught Public
School at Fordwich in 1948 and
boarded at the McLeod home.
Trinity United Church Women
will hold their grandmothers meet-
ing at the church manse, Mrs.
Cook's home, in Lucknow.

MAY 1967
D-Day for the Ripley Exchange
of the Huron and Kinloss Tele-
phone System was Sunday morn-
ing, May 7th at 3.01 a.m., at which
time all phones in that System went
to dial.
The Lucknow Christian Reform-
ed Church purchased property in
Lucknow with plans aimed at the
construction of a new church.
Owing to increased operating
costs, barbering prices were raised
in Lucknow. The new prices were
adults $1.25, children 90c. It had
been five years since adult prices
had increased locally.
The new branch of the Bank of
Montreal in Goderich was officially
opened. Manager was Milt
Rayner, formerly manager at
Lucknow. '
Mr. and Mrs. Alex (Sandy)
Purdon of Lucknow observed their
66th wedding anniversary on May
22nd.
30 YEARS AGO
MAY 1947
Four successive nights of hard
frost in early May reached a climax
on May 10 when the mercury
officially dipped to 18 above zero.
Seeding operations were further
delayed by heavy rains.
Fred Newman purchased the A.
E. (Sandy) Purdon Hardware Store
at 'Whitechurch. Mr. Purdon had
operated the hardware business for
33 years. He and Mrs. Purdon
were moving to Lucknow to their
home on Havelock Street South,
which they, had earlier purchased
from Mrs. Elizabeth Congram.
The Lucknow Ladies Lawn Bowl-
ing Club was re-organized with the
following officers elected: Hon.
president, Mrs. David' Huston;
president,' Mrs. Hugh Cuming;
vice president, Miss Margaret Rae;
secretary treasurer, Mrs. Charles
Cook; entertainment committee,
Miss Maudie Fisher, Mrs. Temple
Clark, Mrs. Wes Huston; social
committee, Mrs. Roy Black, Mrs.
Fred Steward; membership, Mrs.
Charles Steward.

MAY 1927
The Ripley undertaking business
of the late J. B. Martyn was
purchased by Neil MacLennan of
Ripley and W. J. Davison, Luck-
now. The buginess was being
carried on under the name of
MacLennan and Davison Funeral
Service.
Lucknow baseball was re-organ-
ized with the following officers -
president, D. M. Johnstone; vice
president, A. E. McKim; manager,
W. S. Reid; secretary treasurer, W.
Tiernan; league executive, W. S.
Reid; grounds committee, Harold
Walker, J. Denny, W. S. Reid;
mascot, Charles Webster; car
committee, Allan Turner, A. E.
McKim, D. M. Johnstone.
