The June, meeting of the
Lucknow Presbyterian afternoon
Women's Missionary Society was
held in the church June 1 at 2.30.
Mrs. Omar Brooks presided and
opened 'the meeting with the Aim
and Purpose of the W.M.S. After
hymn 376, Mrs. Wm. Stanley gave
the prayer. Mrs. Robert Reid, the
secretary, read minutes of last
meeting and called the roll.
Business was discussed - the Fall
Rally of the Presbyterial. will be
held the first week in October, the
theme of the meeting is Marching
On. Lucknow W.M.S.' is asked for
a poster or wall display on North
India. The July meeting is to be the
picnic meeting with a guest
speaker. ,
After hymn 374, the Bible study
was given by MrS. Wallace Wilson.
The message was "Life is a two
way street, no man walks alone".
Life is wonderful and happy if
shared with others and makes us
responsible people. The offering
was received and Mrs. Loree led in
prayer. Mrs. Laidlaw spoke about
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Morris. They are
personal friends and belong to
Calvary Church in Toronto and
work as teachers under Bible and
Medical Missionary Fellowship.
They have spent six years in
Northern India and this July go to
Pakistan. Six hundred million
people with problems not solved. It
makes a great impression on these
people that you would take the time
to go to the trouble of living in their
country. as well as helping them.
Mrs. James Little gave the
Mission. Study from the book.
Justice not Charity. Her study was
"The Haunting Question of Aid".
The church has an Interchurch
Voluntary aid and have given
$147,000 in aid besides 5 70,000 to.
Guatemala last year for emergency
and medical centres. The work is

After having had surgery on her
knee at Wingham Hospital last
Tuesday, Miss Wendy Kay was
able to return home on Saturday.
50TH ANNIVERSARY
Congratulations from the com-
munity to Mr. and Mrs. Johnston
Conn of Wingham, who celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary on
Wednesday evening at St. And-
rew's Church. Many friends from
this community arrived in the
evening to extend best wishes.
Whitechurch United Church an-
niversary is next Sunday, June 12,
service at 11.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m.
Guest speaker Rev. Eric Le Drew of
Brussels. There will be no service
at Chalmers Presbyterian.
WHITECHURCH C.O.C.
The C.O.C. met during ,the
church service in the Sunday
School room.
Eddie de Boer gave the call to
worship. The scripture lesson was
read by Bob Jamieson. Brian Ross
led in prayer. The minutes were
read by the secretary Kendra
Purdon. The roll call, Name a
favourite spring flower was an-
swered by 12 and 1 visitor.
The birthday calendar was
marked. Lyle Willis had a birthday.
Karen Elliott received the offering.
Donald Irwin gave the offertory
prayer.
The Junior story, Missionary
Helpers, was given by Mrs. Archie
Purdon. The senior stories. Treas-
ure Our Dreams and Reflective
Glory. were given by Mrs. Hugh
Simpson. The closing prayer was
sung.

church feels it is their responsibil-
ity to pass on the word of Christ to
the world. After hymn 399. Mrs.
Brooks closed the meeting with
prayer.
LANGSIDE
George Zuskan of Thamesville
spent Friday with Kenneth Young.
Mrs. Oswald Rudi of London
attended the shower in Bervie last
Wednesday evening for Reina
Reurink. Reina is the bride-to-be of
Mrs. Rudi's nephew, Melville
Arnold. Mrs. Rudi visited her
brothers Bob and Dick Orr on
Thursday morning before returning
to her home in London.
Some members of the 1st
Holyrood Girl Guides presented
their colour party at both Langside
and Whitechurch Church services
on Sunday as part of their training
to win their Religion and Life
badges. During the service three
girls were presented with their
badges by the minister, Mr. Bev
Kay. Karen Young and Ann.
Webster of the Girl Guides and
Liane Young of the Brownies.
Congratulations girls.
The Langside Whitechurch
Young Peoples held their regular
meeting at Langside Church on
Sunday evening.
This Monday the Langside
Cemetery meeting will be held at
the Community Hall in White-
church with Mrs. Emerson in
charge.
Mrs. Ian Wallace, • Susan and
Nancy visited on the weekend with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Steer.
A brief meeting of the Langside
Ladies Aid was held after church
Sunday to make plans for finishing
the basement, which is being
redecorated before the anniversary
services and our minister's ordina-
tion service, which will he held on
June 19th.
Mary Bongertman, who jothed
the armed forces and was stationed
at Cornwallis, Nova Scotia for
twelve weeks, has been transferred
to Camp Borden and spent this
weekend at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Bongertman.

The June meeting was held at
the home of Mrs. Lloyd MacDoug:
all. Mrs. Evan Keith, 1st vice'
president, presided due to illness
of the president. The meeting
opened with the reading of a poem,
"A Good Recipe" by Mrs. Gib
Hamilton. The hymn, "Summer
suns are glowing" was sung,'
followed by a prayer by the
president.
Business was dealt with as
follows: a letter was read from Mrs.
Burton re Fall Rally; Mrs. Jack
Needham and Mrs. Ira Dickie to
attend to the' matter of making
posters for this meeting, date to be
announced later: a cleaning bee at
the church June 10th in a.m.
The Bible Study was by Mrs.
Annie Maclntyre on the life of
Lydia, first Christian convert in
Europe. a business woman, a seller
of purple. a seeker after truth. The
roll call "Truth" was answered by
20 members. Mrs. Gib Hamilton
gave the offertory pbayer. A report
of the Presbyterial in Whitechurch
v, as given by Mrs. Harry Lavis and
Mrs. Jack Needham. Mrs. John

The theme was Agriculture
for the June 1 meeting of
Dungannon Branch of Women's
Institute, which was held at the
home of Mrs. Ivan Rivett. The
president, Mrs.Elmer Black,
welcomed the 22 ladies and also
spoke of the welcome rain.
Following the opening Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect, the roll
call' "Name a product we would
lack, if the farmer never came
back", brought a variety of
answers from milk and eggs to
leather products, cereals and
meats.
Correspondence was read. An
invitation has been received to
visit Lucknow W.I. on June 11, 2
- 4 p.m. in the Legion rooms for
a_ tea and__ bake cale,. " The
financial report was also given
by Mrs. Harry Girvin, secretary-
treasurer, The theme for the
District Convention held at
Clinton, May 30, was "A Good
Idea Lives On". Mrs. Graham
McNee and Mrs. Hugh Mc-
Whinney gave good reports' and
information. Among those hon-
oured in the "In Memoriam"
service at convention was one of
our former members, Mrs. John
Ryan. Mrs. Graham McNee is
the new District President.
Congratulations. She expressed
her thanks to the members for
the lovely corsage presented to
her on Monday; also 'thanked
those who helped with the craft
display; ten Of our own mem-

food for thought and given by
Mrs. Alvin Kerr. A demonstra-
tion using her micro-wave oven
was. given by Mrs. Ivan Rivett
and was thoroughly enjoyed and
appreciated by all. Shelley
Rivett drew the lucky tickets for
the quilt and the afghan with the
winners being Mrs. Janice
--Victotia --Street -Go-der-
ich, and Mrs. Dr. Mills, R. R. 6
Goderich.
Collection and Pennies for
Friendship were received fol-
lowed by courtesies, singing the
Queen and W.I. grace. Lunch
hostesses were Mrs. I. Rivett
and Mrs. Cecil Blake, assisted
by Shelley Rivett, who served
the cake and ice-cream.
