Legion To Provide
Rides For Seniors
Senior Citizens of the Village of
Lucknow will have a courtesy car
made available to transport them
within the Village of Lucknow for
the purpose of shopping, etc.
The service will be made
available by the Lucknow Legion
and will begin Saturday, July 2nd
and continue every Saturday there-
after from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
Volunteers from the Legion mem-
bership will provide the transpor-
tation. Contact for a ride will be
made at Montgomery Motors.
Lucknow Legion is providing this
service as a project for Community
Action.
Wheel chairs, crutches and a
walker are available to residents of
the community and can be obtained
by calling Ed Blackwell at 528-
2444.

Gordon (Tac) Fisher of Lucknow
announced this week that he has
sold his barber shop business in
Lucknow to Bonnie MacLeod,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don
MacLeod, Highway 86 east.
Bonnie will operate "a men's and
ladies' hair care business under the.
name- Hair Creations. She has been
employed in 'Stratford.
Gordon Fisher, who has been in
the barber business in Lucknow .for
45 years, will continue, for, the
present, in the same location.
Goderich Youth
Dies In Kintail
Motor Accident
Douglas Stephens, 20, of 171
Nelson Street, Goderich, was killed
Thursday night, in a single car
accident about one mile north of
Kintail on Highway 21.
He was a passenger in a car
driven by Dennis Powell, 20, of 219
Regent Street, Goderich, which
was heading north on the highway
at about 9 p.m., when it went out of
control and flipped over into a
ditch.
Powell was taken to Alexandra
General and Marine Hospital in
Goderich where he was t5eated and
released.
There were five other passengers
in the car. James Smith, 20, was
uninjured. David ,Geddes was
treated and released. Both are from
Goderich.
Tammy McAstocker, 18, Catrina
O'Hagan, 17, and Elizabeth Burt,
16, all of Goderich, received head
injuries and were listed in satisfac-
tory condition Friday night.

Lions Plan
Fun Night
Lucknow and District Lions Club
has plans for a. Variety Fun Night at
the Lucknow arena this Saturday,
June I I th.
Admission to thiS evening's
entertainment is only $1.00 and is
being staged by the Lions as an
event for the community in
appreciation of the many acts of
support shown by the community to
them over the year.
The program entitled "One
Night's Fun For A Buck" will
feature numbers by a variety of
area clubs, Lions Clubs from
Goderich, Owen Sound, Wingham,
Mount Forest, Teeswater, Ripley,
Brussels, Formosa, Lucknow,
Mildmay; as well as Lucknow Leos,
Lucknow Kinettes, Lucknow Kins-
men, Luckndw Agricultural Soci-
ety and Lucknow Public School.
Prizes of $75, $50 and $25 will be
given to the best judged acts.
Any profits from the evening will
go to community service.

Dungannon. was totally destroyed
by fire on Sunday at noon.

Convocation was held on May 29th
at Kitchener Auditorium.
Thieves Loot
Lucknow Legion
Lucknow Branch of the Royal
Canadian Legion, No. 309, Was
burglarized on Sunday night or
early Monday morning.
A thief or thieves stole 40 cases
of beer and 18 bottles of liquor,
some cigarettes and a small
amount of money.
An additional 15 cases of beer in
the cooler were left behind.
Police are investigating.
Place First In
Zone Math
Mr. D. Neil, Head of the
Mathematics Department at the F.
E. Madill Secondary School in
Wingham, was recently advised
that the school mathematics team
placed first in Zone 78 of the 1977
Descartes Mathematics Competi-
tion. Zone 78 of the contest covers
Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth
counties. A total of 1600
contestants representing 401
schools took part in the competition
which was conducted in Ontario
and Manitoba this year. •
As well as winning their zone,
the Madill team made the Team
Honour Roll and John Day, a team
member, made the Student Honour
Roll for which he will receive a
$25.00 prize. Team members this
year were John Day of R. R. 3

ham, Stan Loree of Lucknow and
Derick Vanderklippe, R. R. 5

their zone competition in 1973,
1974, 1975 with a second place
finish in 1976.

The LucknoW Minor Hockey 40
mile Bikeathon on Saturday was a
great success raising over $3000.
114 bikers registered for the
event and 106 people finished.

Business Block
Tony Johnstone of Lucknow has
purchased the main street business
block, formerly owned by Reg
Jones of Dungannon and at one
time housing The Village Shop,
The Tack Shack and LuCknow Pro
Hardware. It has been vacant for
some time. °
The block is more familiarly
known to older residents as the
Murdie Block, and for many years
was the location of Murdie
Hardware.
Tony plans to make the building
available for rental space, both
residential and commercial:.

Town Employee
Gary Austin of Lucknow has
beenengaged as assistant town
foreman for the village of Lucknow
and assumed his duties on Monday
of this week. He succeeds Doug
Haldenby who recently resigned
and is employed in Goderich,
Gary, who has been employed as
a body repair man at Montgomery
Motors, will receive $5 per hour
from the village for a 60 day
probationary period, and $5.25 per
hour thereafter.
About ten .applications were
received for the job.
Ripley Lions
Buy Freezer
For Complex
The Ripley and District Lions
held their second supper meeting
on May 25 at the Reid's Corners
Hall. The special guest speaker
was Ray Peffner of Hiram Walkers..
Mr. Peffner showed the film "Long
Lost Schooner".
Club members agreed to the
purchasing of a deep freezer for the
Recreation Complex. Ladies night
is to be held on 'Saturday, June 25
at the Ripley Complex. A donation
of $150 was made towards equip-
ment for the Ripley Park.
Harry Coiling, chairman of the
Bingo committee, stated that club
biweekly bingos would not be held
during the summer months. Ron
Nicholson reported that the float
for the London Lions Convention-
was ready. The next regular
meeting will be held on Wednes-
day, June 8 at the Purple Grove
Community Centre.
In 56th Year
Norman Wardlow Wismer pas-
sed away in Wingham and District
Hospital on Tuesday. May 31st in
his 56th year.
Funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow on Friday, June 3rd with
interment in Greenhill Cemetery.
was the youngest to finish the
event and Russel Irvin, Ashfield,
reported to be 39, was the' oldest.
Rosaline and Herb Barger of
Lucknow rode a two seater and
Grant Farrish and Tom Helm rode
two bikes, welded together, side by

In the riding of Huron-Bruce, the
seat is being contested by Murray
Gaunt of Wingham, Liberal, who
has held the seat for the past 15
years; N. J. "Sam" McGregor of
Kincardine, Conservative candi-
date, running his first campaign;
and David A. Zyluk of Kincardine,
principal at St. 'Joseph's School,
Kingsbridge, also making his first
try for the New Democratic Party.
Voting hours will be 9 a.m. to 8
p.m. at the following polling

Child Killed In
Farm Accident
Melissa Ann Stam, three-year-
old daughter of Leonard and Karen
Stain of R. R. 4 Kincardine, was
killed Tuesday of last week when.
she was run over by the wheel of a
farm wagon.
The child was riding in the
wagon, pulled by a tractor, as the
family loaded stones into the
wagon from a field.
The child was unnoticed as she
fell from the wagon. Death was due
to a crushed chest.
The family reside in the Bervie
area.
James Keane of St. Marys, a
former Lucknow resident until this
past winter, suffered a fractured
leg last Friday morning and is a
patient in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr.
Keane is 92.

Completed At
Cost Of $6275
Work of sandblasting, painting
and making minor repairs to the
exterior of the Lucknow Arena was
recently completed by the firm.
Greenwood Paints of Salford.
Contract price for the work was
$6275 and the work was arranged
by Lucknow Arena Committee.
Wayne Jerome was chairman of
the event and Diane Hackett,
co-chairman. Everyone who finish-
ed received a silver dollar.
The chairman and co-chairman
report fine co-operation from all
clubs, municipalities and recrea-
tion committees.
