tutes of Ontario, gathered at the
University of Waterloo campus,
May 3, 4, and 5, 1977. Tuesday
evening the group gathered at the
Humanities Theatre, to be wel-
comed by the president, Mtg.
Herb. Maluske, Chesley. Let's

was "extended by Dr. B. C.
Matthews, President of the Uni-
versity of Waterloo. The univers-
ity started 20 years ago, with 75
students and now therC are 18,000

it was more inportant.
Miss ,Molly McGhee, is the
newly 'appointed Director of
Horne_ Ec tammics_atanch,Mini s-
try of Agriculture and Food-. She
expressed her appreciation to
Women's Institute members a-
cross the province, who give
leadership so freely, for the many
prograMs presented. For 80 years
the W.I.'s have been involved
with training and education, al-
ways keeping in mind the program
must bc, kept up-to-date, in order
to attract younger members.
Mr. A. R. Walker, Liaison
Officer, Business Practices Di-
vision, Ontario Ministry of Con-
sumer and Cbmmercial Relations.
"When planning for Life, train
and Educated people:' The Mark-
et place is a complex unit, even
more so than 25 or even 10 years
ago. We must learn to do more
for ourselves and do it wisely. A
good supervisor is one who can
step on toes, without messing up
the shine. How gullible are you?
The con artist, works on fear.
When shopping, think. Can you
afford it and will it give satisfac-
tion? Don't buy at first store,
shop around! Get a reliable dealer
you can trust and ask lots of
questions. •
The president, Mrs. Herb
Maluske spoke on the theme
"When planning for a year, sow
corn; When planning for a de-
cade, plant trees; When planning
for life, train and educate peo-
ple". We're talking about the
necessity for "known how." In the
Women's Institute this process
takes place at the branch monthly
meeting.
The outline for a .Plan of
Action consists of preparation,
promotion, participation and per-
severence, plus Praise. The execu-
tive started planning one year ago
for this conference. The discuss-
ion group leaders have been busy
since January. For a member to
benefit most from these meetings
her hands must be Open to recieve
and give out again, to others the
gifts of fellowship, friendship,
understanding, helpfulness, sym-
pathy etc. Everyone must/ be
involved. Perseverence and per-
sistance pays off in the long run.
Never forgetting to complete the
plan with Praise.
Mr. Gordon Bennett, Deputy
Minister, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food said the
W.I.'s have been closely associat- .
Gordon Sherwin ind Mrs. Alex. •
Wilding.
A delightful performance by
the Waterloo-Oxford District
High School students, took place
in the HuManities Theatrp Wed-
nesday evening, when they pre-
sented the operetta, "Patience"
under the direction of Mr. J. A.
Cull, Stage. Director, and Mr. E.
J. Fergusson, Music Director.

Maluske, was presented with a
bouquet of red roses, with love
and good wishes from all the
delegates of the Officer Confer-
ence, as this is•her third and
retirement year, as president of
t bre
The Plennary session . Thursday
morning brought the conference
to a close, and delegates departed
for their homes in all parts of the
province.

by Mrs. Leslie Wardell and Stuart
playing blocks, bells and spoons,

was naming nearby towns and a
few riddles which were very
thought provoking. Ely Pollock
