WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 1977 Single Copy 20c 24 Pages r- Lions Announce Interest In Building New Community Hall Frank Hawthorne Named Clerk Of Kin l'oss Township Frank Hawthorne of Lucknow has been named clerk-treasurer of Kinloss Township. Frank was employed by Silver- wood Dairies Ltd. for many years in accounting and office work. The Silverwood branch in Lucknow was recently closed. He succeeds Mrs. Bill (Annetta) Robinson of Ripley as clerk. Mrs. Robinson decided to withdraw from the position after being appointed a few weeks ago. She was successor to Eraser MacKinnon of-Ai-Mess- who served in that office for a number of years. Lady injured, Struck By Car A 75-year-old Listowel lady, Mary Howe, was injured Monday afternoon when struck by an automobile on ,Lucknow's main street. According to Ontario Provincial Police at Kincardine,, a car driven by Linda Hunter of lucknow was proceeding east on Campbell Street. .At a point opposite Ash- ton's store, the lady attempted to cross the street, . walking from between parked cars, into the path of the Hunter vehicle. The woman was treated at the scene by Dr. J. C. McKim and then removed by Wingham Ambulance to the Listowel Hospital. She is a resident of the Senior Citizens home in Listowel. General municipal rates for the year are 30.78 and 36.22 for farm and residential and business and commercial respectively. The rates last 'year were 23.59 and 27.75. The rates for Auburn are 30.39 and 35.75, up from 20.46 and 24.07 in 1976. Lodge Attend Church Service A large number of Old Light Masonic Lodge members attended the annual church service at Ashfield Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. The lodge each year attends the church of the Worshipful Master. This year's Master is Doug Martyn of Lochalsh. Rev. Hugh Nugent of the Ripley' Ashfield charge was minister at Sunday's service. President Stuart Reavie of Luck- now Lions Club, Lions Art Helm .and Walter Arnold met with Lucknow Village Council on Tues- day evening, of last week, at the regular May meeting. Stuart Reavie stated that the Lucknow Lions Club feel the need of a Community Centre to serve Lucknow and District and have been investigating the possibility of such a facility. While_ the . project i still, strictly in the discussion and planning stages, the Lions Club realized that the matter was receiving consider- able discussion throughout the area and felt it was time to make their Murray Gaunt, a 15-year veteran of the Ontario legislature, was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate for the Huron-Bruce riding in the June 9 election. The meeting was held last week at Kincardine. Surrounding the centre area were a number of tea tables where Mrs. Kay Collyer and her helpers served tea and cookies. Mrs. Belle Mole and Mrs. Annie Shiells To Ride In International Motocross Race Pat Beasley of Lucknow, who recently returned from a successful winter season motocross racing in California and Britain, made a good start on his first race day back in Canada by winning the open Expert Class at Star Promotions Spring Series at Durham MotoPark on Sunday. Pat,, jointly sponsored by Maico Canada and Lucknow Cycle and Garden Shop. has been chosen as one of Canada's entries in the Molson's Super Motocross Interna- tional race to be held in the Olympic Stadium, Montreal. Council appeared to look upon the suggestion with approval and it was suggested that the group meet with township officials for further discussion. The butter making operation has ceased and the ice cream distribu- tion is now operating out of Teeswater using office space and storage facilities at Teeswater Creamery.
