Township
Council Minutes
The regular May meeting of
West Wawanosh Township Council
took place in the Township Office,
Public Works Garage, on Tuesday
evening, May 3rd. All members
attended, Reeve Lyons presided.
The minutes of a special meeting
of March 22nd and the regular
April session were read and
adopted on motion of Councillors
Hickey and Cranston.
Ray Sohn, a township ratepayer,
attended the meeting along with
his son and Marinus Bakker, to
inquire about work required along
the road fence 'of his property.
Council authorized 'the work 're-
quested to be carried out.
Police 'Village Trustees, Auburn,
attended the Council meeting, and

mill rates for 1977, street lighting
in the village and dogs in the
village and township. As a result of
the discussions the Clerk was
directed to obtain information
regarding the necessary by-laws to
borrow money to install new lights
in the village, and'to order dog tags
for 1977 to be required on all dogs ,
in the township.
Albert Plasschaert was in attend-
ance to inquire about the Smyth
Municipal Drain Extension and
Improvement.
A large delegation of approxim-
ately 15 ratepayers from the
township presented themselves to
Council to protest the damage to
crops and lawns that has been
caused by A. H. Sherwood's cattle
in the Dungannou area and Wayne
Redmond's cattle in the St.
Augustine area. The irate land
owners clearly expressed their
exasperation irr trying to obtain
co-operation from the cattle owners
and attended the Council meeting
to seek assistance, in some way, if
possible, from the Council. The
Line Fences Act and Pounds Act
were both discussed. The Clerk
was directed to contact the
Township Solicitor to obtain pertin-
ent information.
Motion by Councillors Cranston
and Foran: "That West Wawanosh
Township Council authorizes the
sale to the, Ontario Municipal
Improvement Corporation of deb-
entures for $15,000.00 for a term of
ten years with interest at the rate of
10 1/4 %, to cover the purchase by
the Township of its one-third
interest in the tanker truck for
fire-fighting purposes and its
one-quarter interest in the building
to be used as a firehall."
By-law # 6, 1977 was given third
reading and finally passed on
motion of Councillors Hickey and
Stothers. This by-law authorizes
the imposition of an annual rate to
cover tile drainage loans on two
township properties.
A motion by Councillors Hickey
and Foran authorized acceptance of
BP Oil Ltd.'s, offer of discounts on
diesel fuel, furnaCe oil and gas for a
one year term from May 1977.
Pollard Bros. Ltd.'s tender for
supply of liquid calcium chloride at
$89.00 per flake ton equivalent was
accepted by the Township on
motion of Councillors Stothers and

A motion by Councillors Foran
and Stothers authorized the Road
Superintendent to advertise in
three local papers for one week for
tenders for approximately 20,00Q
Cu. yds. of pit-run gravel for 1977
road construction.
By-law # 7, 1977 was given third
reading and finally passed on
motion of Councillors Foran and
Hickey. This by-law transfers and
conveys the cemetery property
known as "Bethel Cemetery" to
the Mennonite Community % the
area.
A motion by Councillors. Foran
and Hickey: "That West Wawa-
--nosh.---Township -aocepts---the _1976
Auditor's Report and Financial
Statement, and third reading is
given to By-law # 8, 1977, whereby
the levying and collection of mill
rates for the various• purposes for
1977 as set out therein are
authorized".
The road accounts were passed
for payment on motion of Council-
lors Stothers and Hickey.
