Assoc. Members
The Wingham and District As-
sociation for the Mentally Retard-
ed, as a member of the Canadian
Association, will be joining in a
nationwide membership recruiting
campaign in May of this year. The
week of May 7 to 14 has been
designated as National Week for
the Mentally Retarded.
• During this week, in efforts to
attract new members, they will
spotlight the needs of the mentally
retarded, and the services they are
providing and seeking •to provide
in the Wingham district. Flowers of
Hope marigold seeds, which have
been packaged by students in their
schools and workshops, will be sent
to every householder in the district.
Throughout Canada, local assoc-
iations for the Mentally Retarded
have not only developed schools for
children, but also through direct
support and co-operation with
other agencies, are providing
family counselling, home care help,
pre-school Classes, recreation and
camping programs, sheltered
workshops, and small group homes
in the community for children and
adults.
Died Suddenly
In His 54th Year
. D.C. (BUD) JOHNSTON
D. C. (Bud) Johnston of Grimsby
passed away suddenly on Saturday,
April 23 at Goderich, Hospital
following a heart attack. He was in
his 54th year.
He 'was sadly bereaved just six
months ago when his wife, the
former Verna Dahmer of Lucknow,
passed away on October 24th in her,
51st year. He 'was also predeceas-
ed by his parents and one brother.
Bud is survived by one son Barry
of Elliott Lake, one daughter Mrs.
Gary (Dawn) McCullough of Lon-
don and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at
Grimsby Baptist Church on Wed-
nesday, April 27th.
Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Thompson
_ami Mr. and Mrs__Ken Jardine of
Lucknow attended the memorial
service. Mrs. Thompson and Mrs.
Jardine are sisters of the late Mrs.
Johnston.

Died-At Age 73
MRS. FRANK MILLER
Mrs. Frank Miller of Lucknow
passed away at Wingham and
District Hospital on Wednesday,
April 11 following a lengthy illness.
She was 73.
She was the former Mary
Elizabeth Smith, the eldest of a
family of thirteen born to Alvery
James Smith and Jane Elizabeth
Passmore and was born at Tiverton
on March 15, 1904. On Sept6mber
2, 1929 she married Francis Henry
Nelson Miller of Lucknow. He
passed away on May 23, 1966.
The late Mrs. Miller has been a
resident of Lucknow since 1965.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller had previously
farmed in Kinloss Township. Of
interest is that Mrs. Miller and her
friend Mrs. Pat (Mertis) MacMillan
of Kinloss Township had celebrat-
ed their birthdays, which fell on the
same day March 15, together every
year for the past thirty-six years.
She is survived by one daughter
Mrs. Art (Betty) Hinschberger of
Kitchener; two sons, Harvey Elmer
Robert Miller of Fergus and Allan
Ross Miller of Kinloss Township;
eight grandchildren, Dale and Lisa
Hinschberger of Kitchener, David,
Dean and Tim Miller of Fergus,
Susan, Karen and Jimmie Miller of
Kinloss Township; also one sister
Mrs. Annie Swass of Tiverton and
seven brothers, William and Lloyd
of Inverhuron, Reg of Sarnia, Fred
and Harold of Tiverton, Bruce ai.d
Elmer of Kincardine.
Besides her husband she was
predeceased by two sisters and two
brothers..
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow on Thursday, April 14th.
Mrs. Miller was a member of
Lucknow Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Doug Kaufman and Mr. Bev
Kay conducted the service. Mrs.
Donalda Scott was organist and
Frank MacKenzie soloist.
Pallbearers were Murray Neab-
el, John Dahmer, Peter MacDon-
ald, Huntley Dawson, Donald
Whitby, Pat MacMillan.
Interment was in South Kinloss
Mausoleum.
LOCHALSH
After spending the winter in
Toronto, Miss Margaret MacLeod
has returned to her home at
Lochalsh.
Church services have begun for
the summer months at The Free
Presbyterian Church.
Sympathy of the community is
extended the Farrish families in the
sudden passing of Miss Muriel
Farrish of Goderich. Her funeral
was held ' Monday to Greenhill
Cemetery.
Robert • McIntosh, Pamela and
John, spent Sunday in London with
Mrs. McIntosh who is still confined
'to University Hospital.
• Doug Martyn and Donald attend-
ed the Father-Son Hockey banquet
in Ripley Community Centre on
Saturday evening.
