The meeting opened in the usual way, followed by the scripture, Psalm 23, read by Mrs. Roy Finlayson. The roll call was answered with the payment of fees and suggestions for next „ year's program. Minutes and communications were read by the secretary, Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall. An invitation was' read from Brucelea Haven to —___ attend- the- Th.a, and Craft Sale May- 5. The District Annual will be held in the United Church, Lucknow, May 17, Holyrood W.I. hostess. Delegates, Mrs. Harold Howald, Mrs. Clarence Ritchie; Officers' Conference Waterloo, May 3, 4, 5; Achievement Day for the 4-H course "Focus on Living" will be held in Teeswater April 30th. Minutes of the annual meeting {76) were read, and reports from the various secretaries and commit- tees. Mrs. Donald MacKinnon pres- ented the new slate of officers for 1977-78. Mrs. Frank MacKenzie ' installed the officers. Mrs., Cliff Roulston, retiring president, thank- ed the ladies for their co-operation during her term of office. Mrs. Harry Lavis expressed appreciation of Mrs. Roulston's leadership as president the past two years and Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall presented a W.I. pin. Readings were given by Mrs.. Ted Collyer, Mrs. Vera Schmidt and Mrs. Harry Lavis; a piano solo by Mrs. Leonard Clarke, Road to the Isles" and "Blueberry Hill"; a trio of Laurie and Bonnie Clarke and Beverley Bell sang "Happi- ness" and "Whispering Hope". These musical numbers were enjoyed by all. Mrs. Clarence Ritchie gave an excellent report of the District Directors' meeting. A letter was read on the Bruce County Tartan Award. Courtesies were given by Mr_s_ Roy_ Finlayson._ The meeting _ closed with the singing of 0 Canada and Grace. The hostess and directors, Mrs. Philip Steer and Mrs. Roy Finlayson, served lunch. Final Party The final Shoot Party of the season was 'held in St. Helens hall on_ Thursday-, April-2 Ist -at 30. 9 tables of players enjoyed the evening with prizes going to high lady, Mrs. Cliff Murray; second high lady, Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson; high man, Alex Sproule; second high man, Charles McDonald; most shoots, Mary Hehn; ladies with the most buttons, Mrs. Oscar Hodgins; man with the oldest coin, Ross Errington; closest birthday to 'April 21st, Jim Leddy; attended all the card parties this year, Mrs. John Gaunt; coming farthest, John Lyons. A social time was enjoyed with home-made, pie and coffee. Ross Errington auctioned off pies at the close of the evening. WHITECHURCH Mr. and Mrs. Doug Conley and Jason of Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn were in London on Saturday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hunter and Jason and with Mrs. Harold Johnston at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. John- ston is the former Laura Conn. Dr. and Mrs. Bell of Guelph entertained relatives at their home Saturday afternoon at a 35th wedding anniversary held in hon- our' of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Laidlaw of Lucknow. Attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laidlaw of Windsor and Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw and other Lucknow relatives. Wednesday evening guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Laidlaw and family , were Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw, West Wawanosh, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kerr of Bluevale and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Laidlaw of Lucknow. Visitors the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mowbray were his brother Alex Mowbray, Miss Lois Falconer of Stratford and Miss Floris Lever of North Bay. Mr. and Mrs. George Tiffin of Lucknow were Sunday visitors with his brother, Mr. and Mrs, Wesley Tiffin. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Bev Kay and Graham went to Brampton and spent the night with Mr's. Kay's mother, Mrs. Graham, and on Wednesday morning Gra- ham took his parents to the airport to go by plane to Florida for a week's holiday. Miss Wendy Kay on Tuesday evening had the misfortune to have torn a ligament in her knee which necessitated her having to remain a few days in Wingham Hospital. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Angus Falconer was able to return home on Friday from Wingham „and District Hospital. Mrs. Gertie Tiffin of Wingham visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson. Miss Gail Kay of Listowel spent Friday evening with Graham and Wendy Kay. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans visited on Sunday with their son Ted, Mrs. Evans, Linda, Larry and Lisa of Ballinafad. BROOKSIDE HAPPENINGS Last week was Education Week. We had our special day on Wednesday. On 'Tuesday after- noon the students set up their displays for the Science and Hobby Fair held on Wednesday in the gym. These were judged after school on Tuesday. Senior judges were Mr. Liddle, Mrs. Bere and Miss Trezise. Junior judges were Mr. Jewett, Mrs. Blake, Mr. Errington. Grades 5 and 6 winners were Experiments: Janice' Naylor and /Janice Pollock, Diane Mole, Betty Wagler, Juergen Kulle. Displays: George Dierolf, Anne Greba, Sharon Frey and Kathy Metzger, Elizabeth Jefferson. 'Grades 7 and 8 winners were Experiments: Brenda Henderson and Carol Ritchie; (tie) Janice Robinson, Joanne Culbert; Suzanne Kirkland. Displays: Mike "Frey, Tom Wagler, Karen Metzger and Thitothy Martin, Mary L. and Helen Simpson. On Wednesday morning parents were invited to visit the classrooms and to view the display at 'the gym for the Science and. Hobby Fair. In the afternoon all students had an opportunity to visit the Fair. The day and the Fair were certainly a success. The Remedial Reading group from Grade 3 shared a lunch of hot dogs with Mrs., Bere to observe Wild West Day on Friday after having read a cowboy story'. LOCHALSH Mrs. Emile MacLennan returned home from hospital in Wingham, where she had been a patient for a couple of weeks. Among those from this area who attended the Easter Thankoffering meeting , at the Presbyterian Church in Lucknow on Tuesday evening were Mrs. Ewan MacLean, Mrs. Warren Wylds, Mrs. Jack MacKenzie, Mrs. Donald Simpson and Mrs. Doug Martyn. Miss' Pamela McIntosh and Miss Lynne Elphick were two of the participants in the C.G.1.T. Rocka- thon held in Lucknow on Saturday. Mrs. Bob McIntosh is a patient in hospital in London having been transferred there' from hospital in Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Finlayson and twins were guests of Mr. and Mrs. rdon _Finlayson_ during_ the past week, while Rod planted the seed grain. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Harold ' Elphick entertained friends and relatives in honour of 'Mrs. Gordon Stobo of Teeswater (Mrs. Elphick's mother) who was celebrating her birthday. Visiting Mrs. Emile MacLennan and Sandy over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Millar and boys of Palmerston. Recent visitors with Mr. and ri Mrs. Oliver McCharles were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cross and Mr. and Mrs. Don Cross of Komoka, Mrs. Mary Dodd of London., Mr. and Mrs. Hartley MacTavish of. Mont- real, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ritchie and family of Petrolia, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCharles and family of Chatham and Mr. and Mrs. John McCharles of Petrolia. Dr. John Bradley of Toronto and formerly of this area will be coming to live in Lucknow and will be associated with Drs.
