Principal of the school was Angus MacLennan. Wm. John Bain, a resident of Lucknow, observed hiS 90th birth- day on March 30th. Mrs. David Hackett of Lucknow observed her 93rd birthday on April 1st. For the second time in the history of the Lucknow Hydro and Water Utilities there were no arrears of accounts. Treasurer E. ..H. Agnew reported a clean slate as of April 1st. The utility was formed in 1921. Only one other time, in 1959; were the books arrears free. Seven boys of the 1st Kinloss Scouts qualified . for their Queen Scout badges and were presented with their citations by Archie Gowanlock, District Commissioner of Walkerton. The new Queen Scouts were: Mac Machines, Jim MacKinnon,, David Eadie, John Ackert, Eric Thacker, John Liz- more, Barry Haldenby. 30 YEARS AGO APRIL 1947 Joe Writt, accountant at Silver- wood Dairies, Lucknow, was trans- ferred to the Company's new plant at St. Thomas. He was succeeded here by Floyd Wilson of London. Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Lucknow Women's Institute were: president, Mrs. A. J. Wilson; vice presidents, Mrs. Charles Cook, Mrs. Elmer John- ston; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Temple. Clark; district director, Mrs. Bert Roach; pianist, Mrs. W. J. Joynt. Mrs. Philip Stewart was the retiring president. The transaction was . completed whereby the Lucknovv Clansmen Club purchased the necessary property south of the Post Office, which was to be the site of the new recreational centre. Plans were underway to have the building, which had been purchased earlier, moved from Port Albert. 50 YEARS AGO APRIL 1927 The congregation of the United Churches at St. Helens and Whitechurch extended a call to Harold G. Whitfield of Peterbor- ough to become their pastor. He had just graduated from Knox College, Toronto. Herb McQuillin, who had been conducting a blacksmith shop for a few years, closed up the business and rented his shop and barn to Cecil Mullin, will open a garage and gas stand in the building. Mr. McQuillin took a position with Garfield, Ostrander. The Lucknovv Bowling Club organized for the coming season. The following officers were elected - honorary president, John Joynt; president, W. J. Davidson; vice president, Robert Fisher; secret- ary-treasurer, Robert Rae; grounds committee, J. McQuaig, J. A. We extend our best wishes and congratulations to our newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. John McCallum. Rev. Snell of Exeter performed the first wedding ceremony to be held in the Huronview Chapel last Saturday afternoon when Velma McFalls became the bride of John McCallum. Four new residents were wel- comed to the Home at Monday's activities, Margaret McQueen, Mrs. Pickard, Mrs. Sholdice and Margaret Murray. The Goderich Township volunteers and Diane ZION John Ritchie was admitted to Wingham and District Hospital Monday afternoon of last week with a heart condition. • Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and family had his sister Rena, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Menary of Lucknow, on Sunday evening. John returned home from Wingham Hospital Monday of last week. He is to take it easy for 3 months. Joan Hackett completed her 1st year at Fanshawe College, London, on Friday of last week. Donald Ritchie starts Monday of this week taking a seven week electrical course at Fanshawe College, London. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kirkland, Lana and Darren of Kingsville spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kirkland. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Ritchie and Bryce had her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Culbert and family of Cambridge:Galt, Saturday , even- ing. Cleaning up an old barn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Taylor and girls on Sunday caused an excitement when the fire was spreading to nearby buildings and the Lucknow fire department was' called. Please take note of the change of time at Trinity United Church, Ashfield. Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Church Service at 11.15 a.m. starting on Sunday. Pearl -Gidley thanked the entertainers on behalf of the residents. The Seaforth Women's Institute were hosts for. the April Birthday Party on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Ruth Papple was emcee for the program and Pearl Henderson Provided the piano accompani- ment. There were readings by Mildred Kerr and Dorene Cole- man; mouth organ selections by Lorne Lawson and a sing-a-long led by members of the,. Institute.
