KINGSBRIDGE
MARKS 85TH BIRTHDAY
Congratulations and best wishes
to Frank Austin who celebrated his
85th birthday on Sunday. Mr.
Austin was born on Easter Sunday
morning, April 17, 1892, the eldest
child of a family of 8 born to Peter
and Annie (McCann) Austin. He
lived in the Kingsbridge area all his
life, having taken an active part in
the community. He married
Margaret (Etta) McNamara on
June 14, 1922 and lids a family of 4
sons John, Vincent, Wilfred and
Eldon and a daughter Mrs. Joe
(Teresa) Courtney, all of Kings-
bridge. He has 25 grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren. Mrs.
Austin passed away on October 6,
1948. A Mass of thanksgiving was
celebrated by the Reverend Father
Ed Dentinger, C.R. in St. Joseph's
parish church on Saturday evening,
April 16 at 7.30 p.m. A
smorgasbord dinner was enjoyed
by approximately 6-5 members of
his family and friends on Sunday at
12.30 noon in the Kingsbridge
Parish Hall. Master of ceremonies
was ,John Austin. A poem written
by Aubrey Higgins, and read at the
dinner to Mr. Austin, is as follows:
Some eighty-five years ago,
In this community,
A baby was born into this world,
Yes, quite expectedly.
He was an awful looking runt,
No hair, all red and wrinkled
But when they gave him that big
slap
He did not cry, he tinkled.
His parents thought of sending him
back,
But then, they let him stay
Oh, Yes! He is alive and well,
That is why we are here today.
They did not know what to call him
But, finally decided on Frank,
And frank he is in every deed,
To you 'and I and every rank.
He grew up a fine young man,
And as you will all agree,
He married the lddy of his choice,
And raised a family.
I am truly glad to have known you,
And have you call me friend,
We do not have many years to go,
But our friendship never ends.
So in wishing you a "Happy
Birthday",
As Mame and I both do,
Let's wish for many more of them,
And a party for each one, too.
Now all you people gathered here,
You came with outstretched hand,
Let's show him how we honour
him,
Will everybody stand.
Happy Birthday and For He's a
Jolly Good Fellow 'were sung with
accompaniment on the piano by
Mrs. Jack Kinney. A social hour
with cards and pictures taken
followed in the parish hall. Later in
the day, the family and friends
gathered at the home of Joe and
Teresa Courtney where cards were
played, violin selections played by
Basil Hogan were enjoyed and
refreshments served. Guests were

WHITECHURCH NEWS
Whitechurch Water System held
their spring, meeting in White-
church Community Memorial Hall
on April 13th with Bill Evans,
president, presiding and' attend-
ance of 13.
Secretary, Mrs. Dave Gibb, read
the minutes. Mrs. Bill Gibson,
treasurer, gave the financial state-
ment with total assets over $5000.
The question of a Water Softener-
being added to the system was well
discussed. To buy a softener would
cost around $5000, to rent one at
cost of $180 per month would care
for 40 families. Salt would also be
added to cost. For a home owner to
rent one cost is $10.95 per month
plus cost of salt. It was learned
quite a few already have softeners
in their home and some were
satisfied with water as is. It was
decided to not do anything about a
softener at present and any one

meeting of the association at 8.15

the school.
Education Week was discussed
