Mr. and Mrs. Fariner, who purchased the business in 1954 from Morley Hobbs, were moving to Kincard- ine. John Allason, a member of the teaching staff of the Uxbridge District High School, was engaged as principal of Lucknow District High School to succeed Noel Mason. Mrs. Allason was also joining the teaching staff of the Lucknow school as a French teacher. 30 YEARS AGOi MARCH 1947 Kinloss Township Council as- sumed the cost of dental care for Township School pupils. For five years previously the dental care had been administered by the Township Board of Health, which ceased to exist when the new County Health Unit was establish- ed. The following officers were elected for 1947 for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion. Honourary president, Mrs. Allister Hughes; president, Mrs. Torn MacDonald; 1st vice, Mrs. Roy Black; 2nd. vice, Mrs. Herb McQuillin; secretary, Mrs. Clark Finlayson; treasurer, Mrs. Ted Collyer; standard bearer, Mrs. Ron Forster; executive committee, Mrs. Noble. Johnstone, Miss MacQuaig. 50 YEARS AGO MARCH 1-9-27 — - Alex Ross, after fifty years in the harness business in Lucknow, announced his retirement and was offering his entire stock of harness, harness fittings and parts at greatly reduced prices. R. J. Button's Meat Market was offering for sale the following: Prime Porterhouse or Sirloin roast, 23c a lb.; round steak, 20c lb.; choice cuts 23c lb.; rib roast 15c lb.; front quarters lic lb.; hind quarters 13c lb.; pork roast 18c lb.; pork chops 20c lb. Presentation To Frank Ritchies On Wednesay evening, April 6th, the residents of Zion commun- ity gathered at the new apartment home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ritchie, Lucknow and surprised them with a gift from their former neighbours. The following address was read by D. A. Hackett and Douglas Raynard presented them with a • swag tri-lite lamp. Dear Sally and Frank: We are gathered here tonight to extend to you our best wishes in your new home. You have always taken an active part in the community. Although you, have moved to Lucknow, we know you will still be interested In the Zion area. We wish you health and happiness in your new surround- ings and ask you to accept this gift. We hope it will brighten a corner, in your apartment. Signed on behalf of your friends and neighbours, Jim and Isabel Hunter Doug and Mary Lou Raynard, D. A. and Evelyn Hackett Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie both replied thanking those present for their kindness. The evening was then spent playing euchre. Lunch was served by the ladies and a visit enjoyed by everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie have taken up residence in the new Citizens Home, Lucknow. Sleepyheads The third meeting of the St. Helens Sleepyheads 4-H club was held April 6 at the St. Helens Hall. Ten girls answered to the roll call of "Give one point to remember when cutting or marking the fabric". We decided the name for our skit for Achievement Day would be Sleep and Lounge in Comfort. Annette Kirkland demonstrated the flat felled seam while Debra Arnold demonstrated the French ,seam. The meeting closed with the 4-H Creed. Trinity 2 Trinity 2 4-H club opened their 4th meeting with the 4-H pledge followed by the roll call which was "Name and show the type of seams used on your leisure wear". Give reason for choice. If plain seams, name type of seam finish, was answered by 7 members. The minutes of the, last meeting were read by Sandra Campbell. Mrs. Dona Campbell discussed binding, using knit fabric, braid, embroidered bands, fringe, lace, eyelet. Mrs. Campbell also gave a demonstration of the same topics. For group work each member worked on their garments. The next meeting will be held at the home of Barbara Hackett on April 12th at 7.00 p.m. Whitechurch 4-H WHITECHURCH NEWS The 7th meeting of Whitechurch 4-H club was held Monday evening, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Walter Elliott. The president, Kathy Purdon, opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. The 8 members answered the roll call with An important rule for baby sitting. Miss June Alton read the minutes. The next meeting, April 4 at 7• p.m. will be held at the home of Miss Lori Ann Jamieson. Mrs. Janet Reidf Huron County Health Unit was guest speaker with topic, Emergency First Aid and Baby Sitting. Mrs. Elliott discus- sed Achievement Day activities. As a group they talked to Mrs. Reid during the lunch served by Mrs. Elliott. Repeating of the 4-H creed closed the meeting. Whitechurch 4-H club held their last meeting at the home of Lori Ann Jamieson on Monday evening, April 4. The president, Kathy Purdon, opened the meeting, all repeating the 4-H pledge. The roll call was answered by 6 members telling How I keep physically fit. Mary Moore read the minutes. Mrs. Purdon gave out pamphlets on • nutrition, Kathy Purdon gave out the Achievement Day programs. A work meeting will be held April 23 at Mrs. Elliotts at 7 p.m. On May 11 the club will attend a W.I. meeting at Whitechurch Hall and give a display of their work. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 1977 Mrs. Purdon discussed the Why and Hows of Keeping fit. Mrs. Elliott talked about What to eat and Why meal planning. Each member demonstrated her favourite exer- cise and explained what purpoSe it had. As a group we reviewed the Famous People Quizz and planned our exhibit and display of finished articleS. We divided into groups and played the Keys of Good Health game. The meeting closed with the 4-H Creed. The hostess Lori Ann and her mother served lunch.
