St. Helens Church
ST. HELENS NEWS
The St. Helens United Church
welcomed seven new members to
the congregation on Palm Sunday.
The new members are Steven and
Larry MacPherson, Barbara Aitchi-
son, Lynn Miller, Allan Nicholson,
Donald Dorscht and Douglas Dor-
scht, all of St. Helens area.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Cranston
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne,
Grigg and family on Easter
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred McQuillan
spent the Easter weekend in
Stratford with Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. Sandy
McQuillan.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Maclntyre
of Richmond Hill spent the
weekend with Isabel Miller, Helen
Todd and Miss W. D. Rutherford.
Easter Sunday was also celebrated
with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Laidlaw and
family of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Todd and Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Todd. All April birthdays
were celebrated at this time by
Wayne Todd, Jo-Anne Todd and
Jim Laidlaw.

Wingham spent Easter Monday
with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Todd.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Grahatil at
Lucknow. t Mr. Archie Bonnett underwent
surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London and later spent some time
with Mr. and Mrs. R. Winter (Jean
Bonnett) at Stratford before return-
ing home on Saturday.
Mrs. Pearl Lloyd of, Burlington
spent the weekend with Edna and
May Boyle. Mr. and " Mrs. Jack
Scott were also dinner guests on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Lloyd were callers at the same
home.
'Mr. and Mrs. William Haldenby
spent Easter with Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Fry and family at Harris-
ton.

Allan called on relatives here on
Good Friday.

'Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Edward of
Goderich visited on Saturday at the
Maulden home.

Mrs. Bert Nicholson returned
home froM Erin where she spent
the past week with Linda, Larry
and Lisa Evans.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron Stanley and

Mrs. Donald Simpson of Ashfield
has returned from a ten day visit in
Calgary, Alberta with her daught-
er, Mr. and Mrs. Robin Davey and
family and with her two sons, Bill
and Alex, who are also' in Calgary.
Kenneth Farrish of Cambridge
University spent a few days with
his parents Mr. and Mrs. Duncan
Farrish.
Mrs. Rhoda MacKenzie left from
Toronto to escort a group from that
city to Florida on a three week
jaunt.
Rev. Jim Bushell of Ripley was
'guest minister at Ashfield Presby-
terian Church on Monday evening,
April 5th.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Ainsley and
family of Toronto spent the holiday
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Frank
MacLennan.
Weekend visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver McCharles were Jim
MacRae of Toronto and Duncan
MacRae of Southampton and Mr.
and Mrs. Donald McCharles and
family of Chatham.
Mrs. Robert McIntosh is a
patient in hospital in wingham.
LEG FRACTURED
Kelso MacNay is a patient in
Wingham Hospital, having fractur-
ed his leg in a farm accident.
Finlay MacDonald returned
home from a visit with Mr. and
Mrs. Tom MacDonald and family.
A wee baby girl, Nicole arrived at
the MacDonald home during Fin-
lay's visit there.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Finlayson for the Easter
Holiday were Ian and Allan
Finlayson and Mrs. Paul Emberlin,
all of Toronto, and Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Finlayson and family of
Goderich.
Many from this community were
guests at the reception in Lucknow
on Saturday evening honouring
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brunette of
Windsor. Mrs. Brunette was the
former Margie Bell, niece of Mr.
and Mrs. George Moncrief.
Miss Linda Wylds of London is
spending a few days with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. Warren
Wylds, following release from
hospital in London where she was a
patient after a car accident.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacKenzie
had for company over the Easter
weekend their three sons, Bill,
Brad and Bob, home from London,
also Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barrett, and
Linda of Scarborough.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacKenzie,
Danny and Kevin, spent two weeks
in Florida. They returned home last
week.

The Holyrood Women's Institute
met on Thursday afternoon.at the
h'cime of Mrs. Lorne Eadie.
Following the regular opening
exercises, the roll call was answer-
ed with the payment of fees and
suggestions 'for next years pro-
gram. Mrs. P. A. Murray gave a
very interesting report on the
District Director's meeting which
was held .at Whitechurch.
Holyrood will 'be the hostess
branch for the District Annual
meeting on May 17th. Institute
members will be canvassing again
this year for the Cancer Society.
Correspondence was read and
$10.00.as donated to the Lucknow
Agricultural Society. Membership
to the Historical Society was
renewed.
It was 'announced that the
Brucelea Haven tea will be held in
the afternoon and evening of May
5th.

installation of the following offic-

Pherson; 1st vice president, Mrs.
Alex Percy; 2nd vice president,
Mrs. Lorne Eadie; secretary-treas-
urer, Mrs. Jack Scott; assistant
secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Frank
Maulden; district director, Mrs. P.
A. Murray; assistant district direc-
tor, Mrs. Raynard Ackert; public
relations officer, Miss Edna Boyle;
curator, Mrs. Bill MacPherson;
auditors, Mrs. Fred Page and Mrs.
Gerald Murray;, branch directors,
Mrs. Alex Percy, Mrs. Lorne

Miss Edna Boyle was program
convener and readings were given
by Mrs. Alex Percy and Mrs. Frank
Maulden.

pleasing piano numbers.
Following the courtesy remarks,

delicious refreshments were served
by the hostess.
The May meeting will be the
Grandmothers' meeting.
