Peter Vogt, seaman recruit at
Great Lakes, Illinois arrived home
on Saturday, March 26th for a 9 day
holiday with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Peter J. Vogt and family.
Peter returned to Great Lakes,
Illinois on Monday, April 4th.
Joe VanRooy, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John VanRooy, has success-
fully completed a 10 week .carpen-
try course held at the Mohawk
College of Applied Arts and
Technology in Hamilton.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riegling
held a very successful auction sale
of farm machinery on Thursday,
afternoon, March 31. Mr. and Mrs.
Riegling plant() make their home in
Brownvale, Alberta. Frank will be
leaving soon to begin the spring
planting while Ann and the
children will remain here until the
children are out of school for the
summer vacation. George Adams,
of Ashfield Township has rented
the Riegling land for cropping and
the house will be rented in July to a
family from the Guelph area.
Allan Drennan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Drennan, has success-
fully completed a 10 week Carpent-
ry Course held in Owen Sound,
Ontario.
Monday, March 28th was a start
to the last term of the school year at
Kingsbridge. Parents were inform-
ed that the catch-up program
because of days lost due to the
snowstorms will be continued until
at least the Easter Break which is
this Thursday, April 7th. Noon
hours were shortened 20 minutes
each day to allow more time for
catch-up lessons. Letters were also
sent honie to pirent volunteers
regarding the first meeting for
those parents on the Professional
Development Day committee. This
is a committee of teachers and
parents that will plan next year's
school Professional Development
Days.
Mr. Hill from Educator Supplies
visited the school and the teachers ,
were, able to visit his bus to choose
teaching materials to use in the
school.
House league basketball is over
and the championship team con-
sists of Tom Foran, Jean Vogt,
Mike Frayne, Brian Smith, Darlene
Austin, Kevin Leddy, Willy Hen-
driks and Betty Knoop. The junior
champions are Kevin Smith, Pat
Foran, Shawn Doherty, Marion
Knoop, Carol Foran, Linda Sinnett
and Peter Doherty.
The Free Throw champions are
Joanne Crawford in the senior
division and Diane ,VanOsch in the
junior division.
Mrs. Lillian Simpson and Mrs.
Nancy Park are working with
students in all grades preparing
them for the Music Festival to be
held in Stratford during Education
Week (April 18 to April 22).
Speaking of Education Week, Mr.
Terry Bullen is working with Grade
7 and 8 students in order that they
may compete in the Garvey Public
Speaking competition in French to
be held on the Tuesday of that
week (April 19).
Grade 7 teacher, Miss Joanne
Hamilton was a patient in' Victoria
Hospital, London this past week
and had surgery performed on her
left hand. Mrs. Melba Park has
been supply teaching. Kindergart-
en teacher, Mrs. Ann Riegling
attended a Kindergarten Teachers'
meeting held in Dublin on Monday,
April 4.
Auction sales for Lloyd Collins
will be held on Thursday, April 7th
beginning at 1.30. and for Cliff
Livingston on Easter Monday,
April 11 beginning at 12.30.
Mrs. Jack Kinney returned home
on Friday, April 1 after three weeks
in the Huston, Texas area where
she met with her brother Father
Ralph O'Loughlin of the Brasilian
Missions in Mexico City and
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
O'Loughlin of Clearwater, Florida.
Eugene Frayne, trustee on the
Huron County Board of Education
and Mrs. Frayne, Keith Montgom-
ery and William Kinahan,, trustees
of the Huron Perth Separate School
Board and Mrs. Kinahan motored
to Toronto on Wednesday, March
30th for the Ontario Separate
School Trustees Association 1977
annual convention held in the Royal
York Hotel, Toronto on Thursday
and Friday, March 31 and April 1.
They all returned on Friday
evening except Mr. Frayne who
went on to Alliston to attend a
closed workshop for the Huron
County Board of Education held at
the Nottawasaga Inn, Alliston on
Saturday,' April 2. Mrs. Marian
Zinn, Huron 'County Board of
Education also attended this meet-
ing.
Mrs. Clarice Dalton, Mrs. Bern- .
ardine Kinney and Mrs. Teresa
Courtney attended the third annual
dinner meeting of the Voice For
Life held in St. Paul's Anglican
Church, Wingham on Tuesday
evening, March 29. The guest
speaker was Reverend Ball.

LEGION DISTRICT SPEAKING
Congratulations to Mary Luanne
Clare, .daughter of Mr. and. Mrs.
Walter Clare of Kingsbridge, who
won second prize for grades 9 and
10 at the Royal Canadian Legion
Public speaking competitions held
in the Milverton Community Hall
on Sunday afternoon, April 3 at the
District Level.
Host chairman, Herman Young,
Kincardine, Deputy Commander
and Community Program chair-
man, welcomed contestants from
Wiarton, Hanover, Chesley, Wing-
ham, Londesboro, Galt-Cambrid-
ge, Kitchener, Blyth and Mount
Forest. Speakers were from
elementary and high schools.
Elementary winners are as
follows: Grades 5 and 6, first prize
won by Kurt Ross of Waterloo
speaking on "Houdini"; Grades 7
and 8, first prize won by Jackie
Moxon of Galt - Cambridge.
In the Junior High School,
grades 9 and 10, second prize was
won by Mary Luanne Clare,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Clare of Kingsbridge, a grade 9
student at the F. E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham,
who spoke on "Drugs".
Senior High School level, grades
11, 12 and 13, first prize was won
by a girl from Cambridge-Galt,
with the second prize going to
Gerald Schieven of Mount Forest
speaking on "Tall People".
Certificates and gifts were given
to the winners. The Milverton
Royal Canadian Legion presented
all the speakers with a gold pen as
a remembrance. Judges were Bob
Olivet, Kitchener; David Hawn,
Cambridge-Galt; Bill Walker, Cam-
bridge-Galt.
Mrs. Evelyn Carroll, honourary
chairlady of the Ladies' Auxiliary of
the Royal Canadian Legion, Goder-
ich presented some of the awards.
First place winners will advance to
the last contest to be held in Barrie
on Saturday, April 23. Lunch was
served to all present by the
Milverton Royal Canadian Legion.
ST. HELENS
SHOOT PARTY
The largest shoot party for this
year was held last Thursday night
when a' total of fifteen tables got
together. Mrs. Wesley Tiffin,took
the prize for high lady while her
husband took it for second high
man. Russell Phillips was high
man and Mary Hehn was second
high lady. 'Other prizes for the
evening went to Ab Coultes for the
Most shoots; Mrs. Sproule for the
lucky cup and for the birthday
closest to April Fools Day, the prize
went to Mrs. Alex Hackett.
Mrs. Gordon MacPherson saw 5
whistling swans on a pond near
their home last Sunday. It is a very
rare thing to see swans nowadays.
Women's Institute is holding a
pot luck luncheon Thursday noon
hour for its members only. The
regular monthly meeting will
follow.
Recent visitors with Mrs. Wayne
Todd were Mrs. Marilyn 1Flaro and
Kristin of Niagara Falls, Mrs. John
Strong of Wingham and Miss Linda
Aitchison of Toronto.
