Pee Wees Win
At Goderich
After losing the first game in the
Goderich Young Canada Pee Wee
Tournament on Saturday, March 19
to Thedford, Lucknow then went
into consolation play and defeated
Tiverton in overtime.
They went back to Goderich on
Friday, March 25 and played
Langton at 2.00 p.m. defeating
them 5-3.
They then played Zurich at 8.00
p.m. 'the same night defeating
them 6-0 to take the D consolation
championship.
The boys played very good
hockey and Scott Rivett was, real
sharp in goal.
On Wednesday, March 23, St.
Lambert, Quebec played the Luck-
now Pee Wee team. This was a
very good game after the Lucknow
boys started playing hockey.
St. Lambert had Lucknow 4-0 at
109 of the first period. The score
ended at 8-5 for St. Lambert. Goal
scorers for Lucknow were Mike
Humphrey from Allan Eadie, Glen
Raynard from Don Greer and Art
Clark, Kent Alton from George
AltOn and Allan Eadie, Glen
Raynaird frOm Don Greer and Art
Clark, and Art Clark from Glen
Raynard and Mike Humphrey.
Atoms Play
Lucknow Atom hockey team,
accompanied by their biggest fans,
the parents, travelled to Wainfleet
Friday morning, March 25th, to
participate in a Little N.H.L. Atom
Tournament.
The team played their first game
at 3 p.m. Friday, coming up against
Trout Creek from near North Bay.
A thrilling game got underway,
with Trout Creek taking the lead
and winning the game with a 1-0
score.
They returned to the Wainfleet
Arena Saturday for a 3 p:m.
scheduled game to meet Wainfleet
Atoms as their contenders. A
second action packed game unfold-
ed with goaltender Paul Jerome
coming up with some fabulous
saves. The game proceeded into
the second period with fine defence
work by Steve Alton, Mike Crump,
Brian DeGroote pad Steve Hamil-
ton.
Grant Murray gave two go ahead
goals and valuable assists were
made by Todd Ritchie 2, Steve
Alton 1, Lynn Murray 1.
Oustanding positional hockey
was played by Lawrence Clark,
Alex West, Ross Pickard, Totrimie
Gilmore.
The game ended in a tie. 50
seconds of suspense filled mom-
ents took place only to have
Wainfleet score the winning goal.
The convener of the Wainfleet
Little N.H.L. congratulated the
boys on their good sportsmanship
and two fine games' of hockey. A
hand goes out to Wainfleet for their
hospitality shown in the billeting of
the Lucknow team.
April 2nd Lucknow Atoms go to
the Mildmay annual Atom hockey
tournament. Lucknow vs Atwood is
10.45 a.m., 2nd game 4.15 p.m.,
semi final at 7 p.m. with
championship game Sunday, April
3rd at 12.30.
PURPLE GROVE
Intended for last week
Many folks attended the golden
wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. Stewart Needham at Ripley
United Church.
Mrs. Marion Emerson, along
with. Mrs. Marjorie Thompson, left
this week for holidays at Fort
Lauderdale., Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle
entertained neighbours on Sunday,
participants of the "Couples
Club".
Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh' and
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brooks of Ripley
were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Gawley one day last week.
Congratulations to Sandra Reid
who had a birthday last week. A
number of young people gathered
for a surprise party for Sandra on
Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Dore and
Frank visited on Saturday with Mr.
and Mrs. William Wood and David
of Durham.
Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh
visited on Friday with Currie
Colwell and George Colwell of
Lucknow.
Dale Robinson of Prince Edward
Island was a guest of the Boyles
last week. Dale was an exchange
delegate of the Junior Farmers.
Mrs. Cecil Sutton, Robbie.
Rodney and Tammy were dinner
guests of Mrs. George King mat
Bervie on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sutton and
Robbie were among those who took
the bus trip to West Lorne to see
the hockey game between Ripley
and Shedden Midgets. Robbie
plays for this team and they are in
the semi-finals for All Ontario.
Sheddon was victorious but it was
hoped Ripley will come back when
they play Monday night at home.
The Community Centre is spon-
soring a supper for the Lions Club
on Wednesday.
Congratulations to Robbie Thom-
pson who celebrated his sixth
birthday on Sunday. Guests of
Robbie's were John Kelly, Darrell
McKay and Robbie Wood.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson
spent Friday in London.
