Lucknow Hydro and Water
Utilities have entered into an
agreement with London Public
Utilities Commission for the com-
piling and mailing of hydro and
water billings.
The service, which will corn-
-thence this Fall, will put all
Lucknow billings on a computeriz-
ed basis. Local meters will be read
on a staggered basis, half one
month and half the next month, so
as 'to spread the time of the works
department on a more even basis.
The readings will be entered on
Computer cards and the print outs,
for customer billings, will be done
in London and mailed to local
customers.

•
The cost to the local utility is 36c
per billing per time, which includes
the 12c postage charge.
A study of the proposal indicated
that the cost factor would be
cheaper than the present method of
handling all the billings and
mailing locally.
About 45 municipalities are now
making use of the computer
service. An increasing demand by
government for statistics concern-
ing, the" various categories of
commercial and domestic power
users will result in the computer
being ,easily able to provide this
information from coded cards. This
information, otherwise, would have
to, be provided manually and would
be a very time consuming process.

ing an increase of $1,641,796. or
8.87% over the 1976 budget of
$18,505,591. However, there is a
good possibility that there will be

Point Clark Road
Huron Township council has
decided to open Helena Street in
Point Clark after Mrs. Louise
Coiling, a resident, told council she
needed the road opened in order to
sever her land.
"I need that road opened, but it
won't only benefit me, I believe it
will benefit everyone living in the
area" she said.
Mrs. Coiling has five lots which
she can sell once Helena Street is
opened. Council agreed to opening
the street as long as Mrs. Coiling
pays $100 per lot to assist the
township in paying for the work to
be done.
Paul and Herb Gerster, develop-
ers of a proposed 64-lot subdivision
east of the Lighthouse store in
Point Clark, asked council to
approve bylaw 977 conditionally.
This bylaw regulates the use of
land, location and use of buildings.
Before it can be approved, the
bylaw must have a third reading.
Council/ has read it twice.

However, new assessment should
produce sufficient additional tax
revenue to offset this figure and
leave the average Bruce County
taxpayer with no increase in 1977
education taxes, even though
changes in local assessments may
bring differences, in the amount
requisitioned from each municipal-
ity.

Honoured On
501h Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John McInnes of
Teeswater celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary on Thursday,
March 17th. They were entertain-
ed at dinner by Park View Lodge,
Teeswater, where they are now
residents.
Mr. and Mrs. McInnes formerly
farmed on the 10th concession of
Kinloss Township. They later lived
at Kinloss before going to Teeswat-
er.
They have three sons, John of
Wingham, George of Lucknow,
Robert of Orangeville and 'ten
grandchildren.
The Board's budget provides for
general inflation in the price of
goods and services, higher energy
costs and .a growth in enrolment of
approximately 200 students.
The 1977 budget increase is in
sharp contrast to 1976 when
reduced provincial grant rates
transferred an extra million dollars
to local ratepayers which resulted
in an unusual increase in the local
education tax. For 1977 the
province has provided relief by
recognizing the pressures on
counties such as Bruce and
'increasing the grants on extraord-
inary expenditure. Bruce County
has uniquely heavy costs for school
bus transportation due to the
extended nature ,of its geography,
and for debenture repayments due
to providing new facilities to meet
increasing enrolment associated
with the Bruce Nuclear Power
Development. Last year the
province cut grants for these
purposes, but has now reinstated
them However, for ordinary
expenuiture, which comprises the
bulk of the budget, the grant rates
remain approximately the same as
the reduced levels of 1976.
