Guide News
The Lucknow Guides had an
International night an February 24.
This occasion was to mark the
founder of guides, Lord Baden
Powell's birthday, February 22.
This day is referred to as Thinking
Day, when the girls turn their
thoughts to Guides in foreign
countries every year.
The Canary patrol chose to do
Africa. The girls brought in
various articles, depicting the way
of life there. They also prepared a
dish from the country, a specialty
of "rice and fondue mixture".
The Robin patrol did work on
Switzerland. They brought in
pictures of the country along with a
picture of their. flag. They served
spaghetti and swiss cheese along
with a dessert of spice fakes,
decorated with "teddy bear" icing
design. The leaders served
birthday cake in the shape of a
trefoil and freshie.
On March 3rd, the Lucknow
Guides had as their guests the
Teeswater Girl Guides to do work
on the Woodsman's badge.
'Murray Hall from the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority,
came to the meeting as their
instructor. Mr. Hall discussed the
ecology involved with all aspects of
trees. Two very interesting films
were viewed. One filni dealt with
the planting and care of trees from
the stage of seedlings to the time of
full growth. The other one
described the stage of budding
through to the stage of full leaf,
during the four seasons. This film
also showed different ways of
identifying different trees. Mr.
Hall had 15 different twigs from
trees which he discussed. The girls
had- to identify each. The meeting
closed with lunch and refresh-
ments.

10th opened with inspections,
horse shoe . formation and an-
nouncements. Capt. Sue Bellmore,
worked with, the guides, on, propos-
ed badges. Lieut. Diane Morrison
worked with ,the tenderfeet on the
Guide laws. The evening came to
an end with taps.
C.G.I.T.
NEWS
Last week Pine River C.G.I.T.
visited with the Lucknow girls. The
meeting opened with a welcome by
vice president, Irene Reitknecht
and a sing song led by leader
Shirley Colwell.
The girls are all studying South
America. Marilyn Johnson helped
them with a lesson in . Spanish
saying numbers, months, colours,
a benediction and the Lord's
prayer. The girls then enjoyed
doing a Crossword Puzzle in
Spanish. Mary Lynn Cayley
presented Marilyn Johnson with a
gift and thanked her for the many
times she has helped the group.
A tour of South America was
taken by means o1' a filmstrip. The
girls discussed the extremes of the
country. Star weaving and
crocheting, which the girls did
recently, were displayed.
This week the public school girls
made pinatas of paper mache with
direction from Jean Kaufman.
During the business the girls
decided to send $5.00 to their
Foster child for her birthday. Plans
far the Saturday movie were
discussed. Career Night is on
March 28. The meeting closed with
Taps.
