Jack, formerly of Lucknow, was attend- ing Jarvis Collegiate. The Toronto Star had the following to say: "The most decisive choice was the left wing position to Jack Chin, Jarvis' five-foot-five 140 pound ball of e".. . Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Phillips of Auburn observed their 62nd wed- ding anniversary. Following their marriage the couple resided at Whitechurch for 12 years, where Mr. Phillips was engaged as a blacksmith. They then moved to. Auburn. 40 YEARS AGO MARCH 1937 All employees of the Lucknow Table Company, in COMIT1011 with several other furniture factories in Western Ontario, went on strike. The walkout, the first in the Village's history, was orderly and free of any demonstration. The strike affected about twenty-five employees of the Table Company and lasted one week. Wm. Floyd of the Lucknow Bank of Montreal staff was appointed bank manager of Wales. His successor in Lucknow was Cecil D. McAlpine of Highgate. Mr. and Mrs. Hector McKay of Whitechurch observed their. 60th wedding anniversary. As spring-like weather continu- ed, considerable tree tapping was done and the run of sap was reported good. Alex Reavie of Sarnia took over the Cockshutt Plow Co. implement agency for Lucknoyv area and opened a shop in the Allin Block. 60. YEARS AGO MARCH 1917 A school report for the Senior Room of St. Helens School named the following students - ' Sr. V - Gladys Webb, Mary McQuillin. Jr. V - Lorne Woods, Wilson Woods, Ethel Anderson, Cecil Hyde, Joseph Forster, John Gaunt. Sr. IV - Jean McQuillin, William McQuillin, Earl Durnin, Torrance Anderson, Stanley Todd. Jr. IV - Beatrice McQuillin, Lorne Webb, Evan McQuillin, Eddie Bradford, Madeline Gaunt. A. C. Curran, Principal. Ashley Blair sold out his mail contract on Route 6 to John Hamilton, who also had Route 3. James Hyde took over his blacksmith, shop •in St. Helens, which had been occupied by R. Bradford. Council expressed their awareness of the , problem' and advised the Sieckers to approach the village residents to ascertain their feelings on cost- sharing of the light, or having it turned off. Council advised that it is unable to take over payment of the light. Tenders received for the con- struction of the Redmond Municip- al Drain were opened and consider- ed. Motion by councillors Foran and Cranston "That the Township of West Wawanosh accept the tender of Lloyd Collins, R. R. 3 Goderich, for the construction of the Redmond Municipal Drain, at $9,800.00". Engineer J. A. McBride was in attendance and informed council he would draw up the contract for signatures. Tenders submitted for the con- struction of the Kirk Municipal Drain were opened and considered. Motion by Councillors Stothers and Foran - "That the Township of West Wawanosh accept the tenders of Robt. Nicholson Con- struction, Sebringville, at $9,400.- 00 for the open portion, and Keith Brickman, Sebringville, at $3,800.- 00 for the tile portion of the Kirk Municipal Drain Repair and Im- provement." A motion by councillors Foran and Hickey "That West Wawanosh Township Council concurs with the resolution of the Township of Turnberry, that the controls to be exercised by the Conservation Authority and Ministry of Natural Resources through the flood plain mapping are too restrictive and excessive, and should be lowered." Motion by councillors Stothers and Hickey "That West Wawanosh Townshiop Council is aware of the overruns on the contracts for loading and hauling 'A' gravel, also the loading and hauling of pit run gravel, and the application of calcium chloride." The clerk was directed to advertise regarding tile drainage loans for the year 1977. Motion by Councillors Hickey and Cranston authorized the road superintendent to advertise in three local papers for the supply and hauling of approximately 15,000 cu. yds. of crushed gravel, to be applied by 30 June."
