Crucifixtion 'and Resurrection of
our 'Lord. The World's Day of
Prayer will be held in the
Presbyterian Church on Friday,
March 4th and the Presbytery at
Tara on Monday, March 7th.
The April meeting of. Unit 1 will
be held, on Tuesday afternoon,
April 12 at the home of Mrs.
Andrew Ritchie. This is a change
of date because of the Easter
drama being held on regular
meeting day., Mrs. Russ Button as
convener for social functions made
arrangements for the lunch after
the Easter drama.
Mrs. Bill Hunter was convener
for the program and opened the
deyotional with prayer and singing
hymn No. 69. The devotional was
for Lent and Mrs. Violet Mintz read
scripture from Isaiah, chapter 58
and Mrs. Cliff Menary gave a good
meditation on Lent. Mrs. Walter
Alton gave a reading "prayer is the
Breath of God".
Mrs. Chas. McDonald gave the
study book "Justice Not Charity",
which we found very interesting.
Mrs. Grace Campbell gave a
reading "The Legend of the
Shamrock". Hymn No. 249 was
read and Mrs. Hunter closed with
prayer.
Mrs. Chas. McDonald thanked
all and the meeting closed with the
benediction and after Grace a lunch
was served by the committee, Mrs. ,
W. G. Hunter, Mrs. Cliff Menary, I
Mrs. Walter Alton and Mrs. Violet
Muntz.

Lucknow Unit 2
Unit 2 of Lucknow United Church
Women met at the home of Mrs.
Harvey Houston on Tuesday,
March 1. Due to the absence of our
leader Mrs. Eldon Bradley, Mrs.
Jean Jardine conducted the meet-
ing, opening with a poem "Spring-
time Renewal".
Hymn 490 was sung followed by
the scripture reading by Mrs. Tom
Hackett. Devotions, whose theme
was "Take Time", was given by
Mrs. Tom Magoffin. Mrs. Vernon
Hunter read excerpts from the
'Mandate'. , Twelve members
answered the roll call.
Mrs. Wm. Bolt gave the
treasurer's report and Mrs. How-
ard Barger reported on friendship
and visitation. .
It was announced that the
World's Day of Prayer would be
observed on March 4, in the
Presbyterian Church with Mrs.
Ross Shiells as guest speaker.
Mrs. John Kilpatrick took the
chair for the program opening with
hymn 500. Readings were given by
Mrs. Wilbur Brown, St. Patrick's
Day in the Morning'; Mrs. Gordon
Ritchie, 'The Legend of St.
Patrick' and a humorOus reading
'Paddy Leary' by Mrs. Harvey
Houston, followed by a contest.
The meeting closed with hymn
498 and prayer by Mrs. W. V.
Johnston. A delicious lunch was
served by the committee in charge.
UCW hears
report from
missionaries
WHITECHURCH—The UCW
held its meeting Wednesday,
March 2, at the home of Mrs.
George Thompson, Wingham.
Mrs. Clifford Laidlaw, Mrs.'.
Harold Quipp and Mrs. Elmer
Sleightholm had charge of the
topic "World Outreach".
Mrs. Laidlaw opened the
meeting with the meditation. The
scripture, was re4 by Mrs.
Quipp and she led iif prayer.
Mrs. Sleightholm read the
history of the author of the
hymn — "The Beauty of the
Earth," which was then sung by
the members.
Mrs. Laidlaw read an article,
Two Missionaries in Brazil, Tom
Edmunds and Ted Caldwell,
telling of their stay in Brazil and
their views on their mission.
A contest on the Women of the
Bible' was held and the hymn
"Who Is on The Lord's Side?"
was sung. Mrs. Lorne Durnin,
president, thanked the ladies for
the interesting meeting and all
for attending. The r4311 call was
answered by 12 naming a country
where United Church is working.
The collection of loose coins
was received. Mrs. Durnin closed
the meeting with prayer
and thanked the hostess. The
Birthday Tea then followed.
Lucknow WMS
The March meeting of the
afternoon group of the Women's
Missionary Society of the Presby-
terian Church, Lucknow, was held
in the home of Mrs. Noble
Johnston, on Wednesday after-
noon, March 2 with an attendance
of 26.
Mrs. James Little presided,
opening the meeting by reading a
few verses from Ephesians, 4th
chapter and prayer. Following the
hymn, Mrs. Robert Reid read the
,
scripture from Luke, 12th chapter
and a chapter from "Christ of the
common road" followed by prayer.
' After the singing of hymn 544
Mrs. Loree led in prayer. Corres-
pondence consisted of a thank you
note from Mrs. Howard Agnew, an
invitation from the ladies auxiliary
of the United Church to attend the
Easter Drama on April 5th and a
notice of the Day of Prayer meeting
in Lucknow Presbyterian Church on
March 4th.
The roll call was called and the
offering taken. Mrs.Wm. Stanley
made the offertory prayer. Mrs.
Laidlaw gave a report of the
meeting of the presbyterial society
in Wingham and stated that the
presbyterial had met their financial
obligation for last year; also that
there were one thousand new Glad
Tidings subscriptions.
Mrs. Wm. Porteous gave an
interesting discourse on the Study
-Justice not Charity". The way
things ought to be, the need for
concern about the way things are,
stating that no man is an. island.
Mrs. Philip Stewart followed
with two readings. Mrs. Morgan
Henderson gave the courtesy
remarks. thanking all who had
taken part in the meeting and the
hostess for her hospitality.

WMS Make
PresenIalion
The March meeting of South
Kinloss Women's Missionary Soc-
iety was held at the home of Mrs.
Harold Austin.
The president Mrs. Philip Steer
welcomed all, and opened the
meeting with the poem "Living a
Prayer". Amazing Grace was sung
and the Lord's Prayer repeated.
Mrs. Harry Lavis read the
correspondence and business was
dealt with. An invitation was
received from Lucknow United
Church Women to attend their
presentation of the Easter Drama
"Lo I am with you alway"., April
5th, 8.15, p.m.; also Lucknow
Presbyterian W.M.S. an invitation
to their Easter Thankoffering April
19th, 8 p.m., Mrs. Nugent (Ripley),
guest speaker. Mrs. Frank Mac-
Kenzie was called upon. and with a
few words (sad but happy) present-
ed a remembrance from members
of South Kinloss Society to Mrs.
Glenn Noble prior to leaving our
midst. Mrs. Noble expressed her
thanks.
The Bible Study, Martha, a
Misunderstood Woman, was given
Lucknow Unit 1
Unit 1 Lucknow United Church
Women held their regular meeting
on Tuesday afternoon March 1st in
the church parlor. There were 16
members and 1 visitor present.
Mrs. Chas. McDonald welcomed
all and opened the meeting with a
verse "Memories" followed by
singing the hymn "The churches
one foundation" and prayer. The
roll call was answered by • a
Proverb.
Mrs. Andrew Ritchie,' treasurer,
gave her report. Mrs. Bill Hunter
gave a report on supply and
welfare. Mrs. Eldon Henderson
gave a good report on community
friendship and visiting despite the
poor weather. Mrs. Russ Button
convener for Stewardship gave a
reading "Tribulations and Trials"
which should, make patience and
faith.
The drama "Lo I am with you
alwa) " which is being prepared by
the U.C.W. will be held in the
St. Andrew's
U.C.W.
Mrs. Frances Elliott was hostess
to the March meeting of Unit 1 of
St. Andrew's United Church Wom-
en. The new leader, Mrs. Reg
Moore, opened the meeting and
then Mrs. Violet MacKenzie took
charge of the devdtional period
which centred on using our talents.
Mrs. Gladys Arnold read, the
scripture and Mrs. Minnie Henry
led in prayer and Mrs. MacKenzie
had a thoughtful commentary. The
Mission Study was led by Mrs. Jas.
Needham; assisted by Mrs. Wal-
lace Pollock, Mrs. Francis Boyle
.and Mrs. Gordon Patterson. Mrs.
Pollock conducted a contest on the
Old Testament. A discussion
followed with people being named
in the past who went out to serve on
Mission fields in the past and
present from this area and how the
approach to Missions had changed.
Mrs. Moore had literature telling of
how the Christian religion is
continuing behind the Iron Curt-
ains, in Communist countries.'
There is a great underground
evangelism going on.
Mrs. Moore conducted the
business portion of the meeting..
Thanks were expressed to the new
/ secretary, Mrs. Wallace Pollock,
for preparing this year's programs.
The January meeting had been
cancelled. Mrs. Oliver McCharles
expressed thanks for much kind-
ness received by them in recent
months. Members named their
talents during the roll call and the
Live-Love project chosen was
Vadala in North India where Mr.
and Mrs. Keith Jamieson work;
Mrs. Wallace Pollock will be the
delegate' to the presbyterial in
Tara. Quilters are invited to go the
church on Thursdays and and it
was decided to make a Friendship
Quilt, The usual jar will circulate to
augment funds. Mrs. Norman.
Barnard reported for the Commun-
ity Friendship Committee. The
April meeting will be in the church
on April 5th.
Lunch was served by the hostess
assisted by Mrs. Russell Needham,
Mrs. Wayne Nixon and Mrs. Lizzie
MacDonald.

roll call was answered with a verse
with the word Help by 17 members
and 3 visitors. Mrs. Frank
MacKenzie gave a reading "Mir-
acle of Spring". Mrs. Fraser
MacKinnon and Mrs. Ira Dickie
took part in the Prayer Circle.
Mrs. Evan Keith had the Study
Book, Topic: 1 Billion People
Striving to Survive.
Courtesy remarks were by Mrs.
Lloyd MacDougall. The closing
prayer was given by Mrs. Douglas
Graham and grace sung. A social
half hour followed.
