Mrs. Carrick Coiling presided and opened the meeting with a suitable poem and hymn. Mrs. Bob Putman acted as secretary. A tea and showing of crafts is being planned for April 19. The roll call on "If given an increase in income, how would you spend it?" was well answered. Mrs. Duncan Thorburn gave the highlights from the 15th annual. Bruce Presbyterial United Church Women's meeting, held, on March 7 in Tara. The theme was "Living with those who diffier". The presentation of a life membership pin was 'nude to Mrs. Lyle Oliver, a gift from her son Keith, and was made by Mrs. Ernie Gibson. Mrs. Duncan Thorburn commended Mrs, Oliver for her many years of faithful service. Mrs. Delbert Wilson vividly outlined the contents of the Mission study on "Justice not charity", followed by discussions on some of, the concerns we feel in the world around us today. The scripture from Matthew 5: 13-20 and devotional on "What have you heard from ,on lately", 'was given by Mrs. John Ferguson followed with prayer by Mrs. Leonard Reid. Mrs. Cecil Humphrey and Mrs. Lester Ferguson sang a pleasing duet, "Twenty Pieces of Silver",- accompanied by Mrs. Ernie, Gib- son. The meeting closed with a hymn and the benediction, follow- ed by lunch and a social period. Roll call was answered by 21 members with an article for the Craft Festival, 1 child and! visitor present. The meeting opened with hymn "All the way my Saviour leads me". Devotional was taken by Mrs. Alex Hackett. on "Impatience" with Mrs. Clifford Kilpatrick read- ing scripture from Hebrews. Mrs. Hackett closed with prayer and hymn "0 Master let me walk with Thee" was sung. The president, Mrs. Chester Hackett, took over with a reading "The Shamrock", a prayer and repeating the Lord's prayer in unison. The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the life mem- bership pin to Mrs. William Andrew Sr. with Mrs. Jim Hunter taking part. Mrs. Warren Zinn took pictures and others during the afternoon. The study book was taken by Mrs. William Andrew Jr. A story "Get to know them" was read from November issue of the Observer. Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Donald Hackett, Mrs. Manfield Deiroff and Mrs. Andrew read parts of a life story told by Jan McGregor of Montreal. Mrs. Alex Hackett played an 8 track tape which-everyone enjoyed. While the minister is on holidays, March 20th and March 27th Sundays, special services will be presented with different members of the church taking part . An invitation from Lucknow United Church to attend an Easter Drama on TUesday, April 5th at 8.15 was received. The church anniversary is to be held on May 29th with the garden party the following Tues- day. Mrs. Jim Hunter and Mrs. Manfield Deiroff each gave a prayer. Mrs. Donald Hackett reported that a bale be packed after the April meeting. There is to be a Junior Farmer's card party and the youth group of the church will hold a card party, both in Brookside School, Ashfield. Mrs. Alex Hackett reported on work done at the manse with the president reading a suitable poem I Owe the Value of These Rooms". The meeting closed with the collection and hymn "onward Christian People" from the World Day of Prayer leaflet. Lunch was served by Mrs. Wilfred Hackett, Mrs. Allan Ritchie and Mrs. Alex Hackett. Kingsbridge C.W.L Twenty-six members attended the March meeting of the Kings- bridge C.W.L. in the parish hall. Mrs. Marion Austin presided over the meeting. Fr. Dentinger led in the league prayer and gave the scripture reading. Karla Hogan presented Mrs. Joe Courtney with a 25th wedding anniversary gift. The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's reports were given and adopted as read. Fr. Dentinger read a letter from the Bolivia Missions. Mrs. Delores VanOsch" read the correspondence from Combermere re the "Restora- tion" paper, "The Church Today", Yvette Heffernan and family, Rev. A. P. Spencer. Mrs. Clarice Dalton called the 'roll. Mrs. Joe Courtney gave the pro-life report. Mrs. Mary Clare spoke of "the upcoming •St. Patrick's Variety Night. Cultural Life convenership was reported on by Mrs. Rita Howard. World Day. of Prayer at South Kinloss Church was attended by Theresa Courtney, Grace Austin, Tena VanDiepan and Betty Frayne. Fr. Dentinger spoke to the ladies congratulating the public speaking 'Winners and mentioned the, Lenten Holy Hours. ' Fr. Dentinger stressed a theme of "Let us not grow weary of doing good". The St. Patrick's Night, March 20th, to be held at Kingsbridge, was discussed. Nominations for the new execu- tive will be held in April and a committee was formed. The Ashfield Women's Mission- ary Society observed the World Day of Prayer at the home of Mrs. Nugent in Ripley. Mrs. Jim West opened the meeting with the service being taken from the World Day of Prayer pamphlets, the theme being "Love in Action". Mrs. Ewan MacLean, Mrs. Donald Simpson and Mrs. Jack Collinson were the voice parts of the service. Hymn 481 and 426 were sung. Mrs. Jim West gave the scripture taken from I John 4: 7-21 and the meditation pertaining to I John 4: ,18, followed by hymn 374 verses 1, 2 and 5. The offertory prayer was given by Mrs. Jim West. Business was conducted by Mrs. Warren Wylds,- roll call .was answered by 14 ladies. An invitation was received from Luck- now W.M.S. to join them for their Faster Thankoffering to be _ held. Tuesday, April 19th at 8 p.m. Guest speaker being Mrs. Nugent. -A thank you note was received from Mrs. Mae MacGregor, Mrs. War- ren Wylds had a reading about Dr. Diamond speaking in London- at a Presbyterian Conference. Our next meeting will be held Thursday, April 14th. The meeting closed by singing hymn 340, followed by the grace being sung. Lunch and fellowship concluded the afternoon. Kinlough A.C.W. The Kinlough Anglican Church Women held their March meeting on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. David Haldenby with an attendance of 15 ladies and 6 children. Miss May Boyle presided and welcomed 'everyone on such a lovely afternoon, and opened with a thought on Lent in keeping with the meeting, and prayer. All joined in singing' the hymn "Sweet the moments, rich in blessing".. Mrs. Ed Green chose Psalm 90 for the scripture reading. The members prayer, prayer partners prayer, and the Lord's prayer, were all repeated in unison. A well prepared meditation on Spring- time, . concluded with a poem "Spring", was given by Mrs. Midford Wall. The word for the roll call was "Spirit". Mrs. Ronald Thacker read the minutes of the previous meeting and also a letter from Mrs. Irene Clark, South Saugeen Deanery representative, who asked for assistance in the way of bedding, clothing, etc. for families in the Big Trout Lake area fallowing their major fires. Business was then dealt with and 3 large quilts and two crib quilts, which were donated by members, weee sold. Mrs. Bert Nicholson was thanked for reading the scripture at the World Day of Prayer service. Anyone wishing to give Easter Flowers for the church is to contact Mrs. Art Haldenby. The program conveners were Mrs. George Graham, Miss Edna Boyle and Mrs. Art Haldenby. Mrs. Graham presided and opened with a prayer, and all joined in singing "There is a green hill far away". Miss Edna Boyle gave a paper on "Lenton Thoughts". Mrs. Art Haldenby led in the litany. Mrs. Delbert Hedley read a portion of scripture from St. Matthew, chapter 6. verses 16 to 2 l . Others taking part in the program were Mrs. Roy Collins, "Two Golden Days", Mrs. Ed Green, "In Search of God", Mrs. Gertrude Walsh, 2 poems, "To- morrow'. and "Grow Old With Me", Mrs. Art Haldenby, "A Blessed Thought" and she hlso gave (In• courtesy remarks. "One Solitary I,ifc" and a humorous poem was given by MN: Bert Nicholson. Mrs, Lome Fnimerton r(•ad the ''Faster Story". All Unit 3 U.C.W. Unit 3' of Lucknow United Church Women met at the home of Mrs. Walter Dexter on March 1. Mrs. Allan Johnson opened the meeting with a reading. Fourteen members answered the roll call with something Irish. Convener reports were given and the following dates announced. World Day of Prayer, March 4 at the Presbyterian Church; Bruce Pres- byterial at .Tara United Church on March 7; and the Easter Drama on April 5 at 8.15 p.m. Mrs. Johnson discussed plans for the May joint , meeting. Mrs. Eldon Ritchie gave a reading Springtime. 'What a friend we have in. Jesus' was sung. Mrs. Wraith gave the scripture reading fromv Maitheiv and Mrs. Raynard the meditation. Miss Ada Webster "'gave a talk on Ireland. She paid tribute to the fine people and the patron saint St. Patrick, and Some_ , Irish music was enjoyed. Mrs. Gordon Kirkland gave a reading on St. David's Day, where the Welsh people remember their patron saint. The second chapter of the study book was given by Mrs. Eldon Ritchie. A reading "An Invitation to Church" was given and the meeting closed with an Irish prayer. Lunch was served. Demonstrated Sewing of. Knits The March meeting of Donny- brook United Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Wm. Hardy on Tuesday, March 8 with a good attendance. Mrs. Ernest Snowden gave the call to worship . Hymn 280, "The King of Loye Shepherd Is" was sung followed with prayer by Mrs. Snowden. Mrs. E. Robinson read the scripture taken from Romans. Mrs . H. Jefferson read a poem "Sprin- kle Sunshine", followed \vith the meditation "March Winds and Sunshine" by Mrs. E. Snowden. The hymn "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" was sung. Two poems "Spring Song" and "Pre- lude to Easter" were read by Mrs. 0. Weber and Mrs. J. Hildebrand followed with 'hymn "There Is a Green Hill Far Away". Mrs. Wm. Hardy took the topic "Out from Behind the Veil". It was about the education in the Arab world. A third of the undergradu- ates in Arab universities now are women. Professionally trained teachers are relatively scarce now. but it's estimated seven to eight million will be needed by the year 2000. Mrs. Stuart Chamney gave the secretary's report and the business was discussed. Mrs. M. Johnston showed the ladies the quilt that was quilted last week for the bale. Mrs. S. Tilbrook and Mrs. M. Johnston gave poems "Spring Gardens" and "The Path of Spring". Hymn 98 was sung and Mrs. Snowden closed with prayer. Mrs. Otto Weber demonstrated sewing of Knits for an hour and lunch followed with Mrs. W. Jefferson assisting the hostess. joined in singing the hymn "Jesus is standing in Pilot's hall". Mrs. Jack Scott read a poem "A Good Homemaker". A hymn contest was conducted by Miss Edna Boyle. Mrs. Midford Wall gave a reading "May I Introduce Him". - The closing hymn was "Jesus keep me near the cross". The meeting closed with prayer. Grace was sung and Mrs. George Graham thanked all those who contributed to the program. Delicious refreshments were ser- ved and a social time was enjoyed. The April hostess is Mrs. Roy Collins. Conveners are Mrs. Howard Thompson and Mrs. Eric Thacker.
