FARM' REPORT
SWINE A.1. COURSE
IN WALKERTON
Artificial Insemination for swine
has become a practical alternative
to purchasing good, but expensive
boars. Semen is delivered to towns
and villages in this area the same
day you call.
Swine A.I. is . different from
cattle in that the swine owners
do the inseminating themselves.
This had advantages in disease
control and better, timing.
To get started, a farmer should
take a course to learn the
techniques involved. This year the
course is to be held in the
Boardroom of the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture & Food Office on the
22nd day of March. The-hours are
from 10.00 a.m. to' 4.00 p.m. and
lunch is included in the registration
fee of $35. A spouse or child taking
the course with you, costs an extra
$10.
You may register by phoning the
Ontario Swine A.I. Association at
539-5636 or, if time gets short, just
show up before 10.00 a.m.

DACO LABORATORIES
SUPPORT QUEEN'S GUINEAS
Upon a recommendation by a
Walkerton resident, Earl Weitz,
•Daco Laboratories of London pur-
chased a steer at the 1976 Queen's
Guineas auction on November 19,
1976. The steer was owned by
Dennis MacGillivray of Paisley and
placed in the first prize group in the
Aberdeen Angus class. " Upon
slaughter, Daco found that they
had bought an excellent steer that,
dressed out at 62%„. The support
that. Daco Lab. exhibitied in
purchasing this steer is greatly
appreciated at a time when market
prices are less than production
costs.
Once again, all 4-H members
wish to express sincere apprecia-
tion to Mr. Weitz for the very
generous support in this regard.
This brings the total to three
local merchants who financially
helped 4-H members in the past
year. Mr. Weltz's name is hereby
added to the list which includes
Mr. Fotheringham of Mildmay and
the Walkerton Farm Supply Com-
pany. Thank you all very much for
your efforts.
RANDY WILLICK.
