WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 1977 PAGE THIRTEEN Janice Hacke11 Heads 4H Club Trinity II, 4-H club held the first meeting on the project, "Clothes for Leisure" at the home of the leader, Mrs. Dona Campbell on Tuesday, March 1st at 7 p.m. The roll call, Why do you belong to 4-H?, was answered by 7 members. The officers were elected as follows: president, Janice Hackett; vice president, Barbara Hackett; press reporter, Gail Hackett; secretary, everyone. Cheryl Hackett, the assistant leader, discussed "A Sewing Box"; "Choosing Clothes for Leisure"; "Choosing the Style and Pattern"; "Choosing Fabric" and "Trims and Notions". Mrs. Campbell demonstrated "Getting Ready to Cut Out" and demon- strated how to take the body measurements. Using sample patterns each member picked out a sample fabric suitable for making the pattern. Members are to bring their patterns and material to the next meeting, which will be held at Cheryl Hackett's; March 22nd at 1.00 p.m. Sleepyheads The first meeting of the St. Helens "Sleepyheads" was held on Wednesday, March 2 at the St. Helens Hall. We opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. Nine members answered the roll call of what 4-H means to them. The election of officers was held with the following results: presid- ent, Barbara Aitchison; vice presid- ent, Dayle MacDonald; treasurer, Margaret MacPherson; secretary and press 'reporter, rotating each week. Mrs. Ross Errington and Mrs.' Jim Aitchison, leaders, introduced the club "Clothes for Leisure". We read from our members' pamph- let and learned ' how to take measurements. We also discussed dierent kinds of materials. Our next meeting will be on Monday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the St. Helens Hall. The third meeting was held at the home of one our leaders, Marilyn Reid. The leaders of this club are Deanna Scott and Marilyn Reid. The executive is president, Sandra Reid, vice president, Lisa Collins and press reporter, Heather Boyle. Other members of the club are Corinne• Boyle, Joanne Pollock, Marj Hodgins and Debbie Fair. At the first three meetings we have discussed such topics as, mental health, quilting., knitting, crocheting, photography, theatre, reading and indoor plants. When Deanna Scott discussed. Historic Interests with us she showed us the Teedsmuir History book. It gave us some insight into how we can get really interested in our own community's history. When working on our group work we came to the conclusion that quilting isn't as easy as it looks when we see our grandmothers do it. It took us two meetings to complete one little four inch square of quilting. The senior members in the club are busy crocheting, knitting or quilting their projects. This club • the seniors have a choice of making a record book,- writing book reports, or writing an essay. Eight Enthusiasts We opened the meeting by repeating the 4-H pledge. Murray Gaunt talked to us for about 3 quarters of an hour on citizenship, government, the cabinet, voting and a few other things on politics. The two Kari- shea clubs joined to hear him speak. Mr. Gaunt gave different pam- phlets on what he talked about. We then worked on our projects until we closed the meeting by repeating the 4-H creed. Happy Gals The third meeting of the Clover Valley Happy Gals was held at the home of Joyce and Joan Osborne at 7.00 on March 7. We opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. Karen Metzger read the minutes of the last meeting. Mrs. Osborne set out antiques and the members identified them. The next meeting will be held at the home of Karen Metzger, on Saturday, March 19 at 9.00. Joyce Elphick discussed learning through leisure, photography, and the art of reading. Fran Elphick discussed and demonstrated indoor gardening, music and art apprecia- tion, historic interests and live theatre. The members displayed their various talents to the rest of the club. The meeting was closed with the 4-H motto. On Thursday, March 3, the Kairshea Life Lovers 4-H club went to the school to hear Mr. Murray Gaunt speak on government and citizenship. On Friday, March 4 a meeting was held at Mrs. Dickie's home. Marilynne MacIntyre read the minutes following the pledge. We had the roll call. We played a game which involved naming the pictures we were shown of political people and • telling what their job was. Mrs. Clarke discussed citizenship at home. Mrs. Dickie and Mrs. Clarke discussed safety in the home. The next meeting is to be held on March 18. Lorrie Parker volunteer- ed to• get the book covers. We closed the meeting with the motto. Active Eight WHITECHURCH NEWS Meeting four of Whitechurch Active Eight 4-H club met on February 28 at the home of Mrs. Archie Purdon at 7 p.m. The meeting was opened by the president Kathy Purdon having the 7 members repeat the 4-H pledge. The roll call was answered by How I would define a good citizen. The minutes were read by Lori Ann Jamieson. The next 'meeting is to be held at the home of Janet Laidlaw March 7 at 7 o'clock. Discussion and demonstrations: Murray Gaunt, • guest speaker, discussed levels of government and the responsibility of a citizen. Lotie Purdon thanked Mr. Gaunt and presented him with a gift. Mrs. Jouwsma of Market Gard- ens, Wingham, talked about indoor gardening. She planted a terrarium as an illustration. Kathy Purdon, thanked her and presented a gift. In group work Mrs. Purdon gave a quizz on famous people. The meeting closed with repeating the 4-H creed. Live Wires Kairshea Live Wires had their fourth meeting on March 3rd at 7.00 p.m. started by Mrs. Leonard Ritchie who introduced Mr. Murray Gaunt. Mr. Gaunt talked about the three levels of government - municipal, provincial and federal. He also talked about each of their responsibilities and touched on the topics of immigration and citizen- ship as he finished his talk. Mrs. Ritchie thanked him and we went through the usual preliminaries of a normal meeting - pledge and roll call which was how we would define a 'good citizen. As home assignment we are to visit someone in the community who would like company or do something extra special, for a person in the area, individually. We closed with the ,motto. The next meeting is tentatively set for Monday, March 21 at 10.30 a.m. at Mrs. MacDoug- all's.
