Eight teams competed Saturday,
March 5th in Lucknow at the 7th
annual Lucknow Legion Flea hock-
ey tournament with Brussels again
winning the championship.
1ST GAME
LucknoW and Brussels started
the morning off with, an exciting
game of hockey with Brussels
winning 'by a score of 1-0. The
winning goal was scored with 33
seconds left to be played in
regulation time- -
-2ND GAME
West Howick defeated Ripley
5-2. Scoring for Ripley were Jeff
Gamble, 1 goal; Jeff Helesic, 1
goal; Alex Boyd and David
Patterson, 1 assist each.
3RD GAME
Belgrave defeated Belmore.
4TH GAME
Blyth 'defeated Mildmay.
5TH GAME
Lucknow, playing their second
game of the day, came up with a
solid team effort to defeat Ripley
5-1, Scoring for Lucknow were
Brad Priestap, 4 goals, 1 assist;
Chris Irwin, 1 goal, 1 assist; Danny
Gilchrist and John D. MacKenzie,
1 assist each. Scoring for Ripley,
Jeff Gamble, 1 goal; Robb Brooks,
1 assist.
6TH GAME
Brussels defeated West Howick
13-1.
7TH GAME
Mildmay defeated Belmore.
8TH GAME
Belgrave defeated Blyth.

To Be Played
At Lucknow
One of the largest midget hockey
tournaments in Ontario will be held
at Wingham during the school
'Winter Break'. The 14th annual
Wingham Midget Hockey Tourna-
ment will be increased from 32
teams to 56 this year and will use
the Lucknow arena for part of the
tournament.
All the defending. champions in
the "AAA", 'A', "B" and "C"
categories will be bck looking for
their second straight title. They will
get some good opposition from the
other teams in each group.
The "AAA" category had the
least number of teams entered but
the eight teams so far are very
evenly matched. With the smaller
number of teams, the champion-
ship game will be played at the
Wingham Arena on Tuesday,
March 22 at 9 p.m.
With the increase in number of
teams entered, the tournament will
be played on three ice surfaces. A
total of 16 games will be played at
the Howick Community Centre.
There will also be 13 games played
at the Lucknow arena.
Most of these games will be
played on the opening weekend of
the '10-day tournament. Two of the
games at Howick will be played on
Thursday, March 24.
Billeting for the players will be in
Wingham and the surrounding
area.
Citizens are getting behind the
venture and are very enthusiastic
about the way the tournament has
increased over * the years. The
committee has been getting terrific
support from all the various clubs,
groups and everyone who, in any
way, can help them make this a
huge success.
9TH GAME
This game was the consolation
final with the Lucknow team
playing against Mildmay. The local
lads wasted little time in proving
they had worked to gqt to this gatile
as they out scored the Mildmay
team for a final score of Luckhow
12, Mildmay 0.
Scoring for Lucknow were Brad
Priestap, 5" goals; John D. Mac-
Kenzie, 3 goals, 2 assists; Robbie
Cayley, 2 goals, 1 assist; Chris'
Irwin, ' 1 goal, 5 assists; Ricky
Bechard, 1 goal; Danny Gilchrist, 5
assists; Freddie Flanagan and Brad
DeGroote, 1 assist each. The
Consolation Trophy donated by
Lucknow Legion was presented by
Ronald Alton.
10TH GAME
This game was the championship
final with Brussels defeating Bel-
grave in an exciting game by a
score of 3-1. This win by Brussels
gave them the sixth straight cham-
pionship trophy. H. D. "Bud"
Thompson on behalf of the donor of
the championship trophy, the,
Lucknow Legion, presented the
trophy.
This ended an excellent well
organized Flea Tournament. Your
support of the tournament was
deeply appreciated by both the
Fleas and their coaches and
managers.
Winner of the twenty-dollar food
voucher from Mehan's was Mrs.
Jack Goodall of Wingham. Richard
Askes of Lticknow won a Provincial
ticket and Con VanVliet of Blyth
won 5 Wintario tickets.
In appreciation of your support to
the Lucknow Flea hockey team, the
players, coach and manager would
like to thank everyone who helped
in any way with the Lucknow Flea
Tournament. They would especial-
ly like to thank the mothers of the
Lucknow Flea team who helped
feed the 144 children twice during
the day, the Lucknow Legion for
supplying the hall and trophies,
and 'the parents who took tickets,
helped in the penalty box and to the
men who refereed, to Linda
Jerome, Lynn Murray and Brian
DeGroote who looked after the
ticket sales and special thanks to
Ronald Alton who organized the
tournament.
Treat Injuries
Larry Hackett, R. R. 7 Lucknow,
was driver of a vehicle which
collided with a bus on .top of a hill
on the 10th concession of Ashfield.
He was treated for an injured left
knee and released from hospital.

Bantams Win
First Game
In Playoffs
'The Lucknow Bantam hockey
team played the Parkhill Bantams
in Parkhill on Sunday, March 6 in
the first round of the U OMHA
playoffs. This is a best 2 out 3
series.
Lucknow won this first game by a
close score of 4-3.
Scoring for Lucknow were Steve
Simpson 2, - Mike Cowan 1, Steve
MacPherson 1.
Assists went to Paul Hamilton 2,
Steve MacPherson 1, Doug Dorscht
1, Don Elliott 1, Barry Elphick 1,
Steve Simpson 1.
Juveniles Go 1

Quarter Finals
In a breathtaking game played
Sunday, March 6, Lucknow. Juven-
iles built up a 6-3 lead in the latter
part of the game, only to see it
disappear, but they managed to
hold out for an 8-7 win. The game
was played in Lucknoyv against
Wainfleet and was the first in the
Ontario Minor Hockey Association
quarter finals.
Lucknow leads the best of three
series with the second game being
played in Wainfleet this Saturday,
March 12th at two o'clock.
Goal scorers were Rick Howald,
1 goal; Tam Forster, 3 goals, 1
assist; Randy Alton, 1 goal, 3
assists; John McLeod, 1 goal, 1
assist; Tom Peterson, 1 goal; Doug
Shiell, 1 goal, 1 assist; Rod
Simpson, 1 assist.
Pee Wee learn
Defeat Tiverton
Lucknow played at Tiverton
March 7 in a consolation round.
The score was Lucknow 7, Tiverton
1.
Goal scorers for Lucknow were

The 2nd game in a 2 out of 3
series is to be played Friday,
March 11th at 7 p.m. in Lucknow.
Midgets Win
First Game
In Ouarter Finals
Lucknow Midget hockey team
played their first game in almost
three weeks as they journeyed to
Watford for the first game of the
O.M.H.A. quarter finals.
It was a hard fought battle with
Luc now scoring four goals before
Watford got on the sheet for three.
Each team scored one in the
third period for a final score of
Lubknow 5, Watford 4.
The second game is in Lucknow
Wednesday (tonight) at 8.30 p.m.
