Set Formula For
Assistance With
Snow Costs
As the Sentinel had indicated in
a story several weeks ago, Ontario
municipalities facing large snow
removal deficits as a result of this
winter's series of severe storms can
apply for special Provincial Govern-
ment subsidies. The formula has
now been announced by the
Ministry of Transportation and
Communications.
To qualify for the assistance, a
municipality's winter maintenance
costs must exceed their highest
annual winter maintenance cost
over the last four years by at least
20 per cent.
This figure was arrived at after
the committee took into considera-
tion the fact that the average
municipality received a sizeable
increase in their normal road
maintenance subsidies for 1977
over 1976 of between 15 and 16 per
cent.
To ensure 'early payment, any
municipality requesting assistance
should submit estimates of the
extra costs to the Ministry by
March 31, 1977, and report final
costs after April 30.
