The Health Nurse will be in attendance. Both kindergarten classes for this year will come to school on the previous day to free Mrs. Farrish for the next day. Some hockey games have been cancelled and rescheduled. Here are recent scores. This past week the daises at Brookside have been carrying on an integrated study of the newspaper. Class sets of the London Free Press were made available to the students each day. Work in all subjects was linked 'to the material found in newspapers. We feel that, as a result, students will read the paper with more interest and understanding. Two weeks from this Thursday some junior class- rooms are planning visits to the Goderich Signal Star • and Mrs. Keller of the Star staff will visit our school, talk to the students and give them an opportunity to ask questions. Over the past couple of weeks students at Brookside have been taking part in speak-offs in the rooms in preparation for the Public Speaking Contest in the auditorium on Friday, February 25. Winners in the Grades', I-IV division were in Grade 1 Michael Pentland, Jean McWhinney; Grade 2 David Reed, John Vandervelde; Grade 3 Vicki Pentland, Christine Gibson with Vicki Hackett and Jeff Gibson tied for 3rd.. Grade 4 Paul Strong, Margaret McWhinney and Marilyn Jamieson tied for second. Advancing to the Legion Contest to be held in Lucknow on Friday, March 4 are Grades 5 - 6 Karen Beecroft with Gordon Jamieson as runner-up and Grades 7 - 8 Theresa Taylor with Brenda Jamieson as runner-up. If you expect to be farsighted you must move to the heights. Former Wawanosh Lady Passes MRS. CECIL ROBERTS Mrs. Cecil Roberts of Toronto passed away in Toronto General Hospital on Thursday, January 20, 1977 in her 70th year. Left to mourn, her loss are her husband, Cecil Roberts; three daughters and one son, Donna, Ronald, Delaine and Lois Anne, all of Toronto; and one sister Jessie Snell of Swastika. A brother Peter. Campbell of Lucknow predeceased her. The late Mrs. Roberts was the forn)er Annie Campbell, daughter of the late Neil Campbell and Mary Watson of West Wawanosh Town- ship. The funeral service was held January 22 at the Buttler Funeral Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West, Toronto. Interment was in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Lawrence MacLeod of Lucknow had knee surgery at Victoria Hospital, London last Friday. He will have the leg in a cast for 6 weeks. Ed Gilmore, a resident of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Lucknow, is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Gerald Rhody of Kinloss was a $25.00 winner in the February 17 Wintario draw. Mrs. Don McMurray of Lucknow underwent an appendectomy Fri- day morning in Wingham Hospital. George Whitby, Lucknow, is home after being hospitalized for seven weeks in Wingham Hospital and London University Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his knee. HISTORY ASSEMBLY On Thursday of last week, Mr. Robert Courtney, from the Histor- ical Society showed slides to the elementary students as well as the Levell II and V history classes. English. She has been teaching at RDS for the past four years. Mrs. Henderson came to RDS when they moved grades 7 and 8 from Ripley-Huton Central School. It is nice to have such a teacher as Mrs. Henderson teaching at our school. We like to know our customers by y name! PHONE 528-3024 RIPLEY DISTRICT SCHOOL Lucknow District Co-op 1. ENGLISH ASSEMBLY On Wednesday, February 16 a Canadian Poetess visited our school. She spoke to the Level 1, II, IV and V English classes. TEACHER OF THE WEEK This week we are introducing Mrs. Helen Henderson. She was born in Lucknow and educated in Lucknow Public and High Schools and Stratford Normal School. Before coming to Ripley, she previously • taught in Killoss, Lucknow, Pine River, and W. E. Thompson. She is married with two sons and two grandchildren and is presently living in the village of Ripley. She is the classroom teacher for grade seven and also teaches grade ' 8 science and SADIE HAWKINS February 18 marked the crown- ing of the queen and her two princesses for the 77 year at the R.D.S. Sadie Hawkins dance. In the gaily decorated gym,, a good crowd was in attendance 'to see Marilyn Stewart, from Level III get named "Queen of the Sadie". First princess was Debbie Zipfel and the 2nd princess was Jane Messenger, both from Level III. The girls all received heart-shaped boxes of chocolates ranging in colour from red, pink and gold. Marilyn also received a heart-shaped tiara and a red sash' to mark this event. Congratulations goes to Marilyn.
