Playoffs Midgets Win DD Championship In Three Straight Lucknow Midget hockey team won the WOAA DD championship by defeating Milverton three straight games. Lucknow led 2-0 at the end of the first period; 3-2 at the end of the second and added 3 more in the third for a final score of 6-2. Point getters for Lucknow were Mark Frayne 4 goals and Tom Sinnett 2 assists; single goals were scored by, Grant Gilchrist and David Errington with Pat Murray, Steve Hamilton and Jim VanOsch each collecting one assist. Lucknow is now waiting for word of who the opposition will be in O.M.H.A. play. At this game the third 50-50 draw was held with Gloria Murray the lucky winner of $77.25. The team wishes to thank each and every ticket purchaser for their support. Sunday afternoon Lucknow play- ed host to the Wingham A team in an exhibition contest which ended in a 6-6 tie. Lucknow scored early and led until Wingham tied the score with only four minutes left in the game. Both Fred Howald and Rod Havens, sharing the net duties, came up with some big saves to keep the scoring even. Lucknow's marksmen were Jim VanOsch, Mark Frayne and Tom ,Sinnett with one goal and 2 assists each; Dave Errington and Dan Londry 1 goal and I assist each; Pat Murray 1 goal and Ron Johnson 1 assist. This game was a real thriller. Milverton desperately wanted to win and Lucknow was determined not to let them. Both teams put forth a great team effort but the Lucknow Bantams proved to be the stronger team and Milverton went down to defeat. Goal getters for Lucknow were Steve MacPherson 5, Steve Simp- son 2, Barry Elphick 1. Assists went to Paul Hamilton 3, Mike Cowan 1. The first game of the series was played in Milverton on February 12 In the first game on February 19, the Bruins defeated the Rangers 7-2. Carl Courtney led the Bruins with 4 goals. Steve Davidson scored two and Ken Irwin one. Richard Jurjens and Robert Steffler scored for the Rangers. In the second game the,Canad- lens won over the Red Wings 4 to 1. Jim Foran with two and Bernie Burgsma and Kevin Leddy with one each were goal scorers for the with Lucknow winning 4-2. The Bantams travelled to Milver- ton on Saturday, February 17 for the third game of the W.O.A.A. final series and again defeated the Milverton Bantams by a score of 4-2. This win gave the Lucknow boys the series. Scoring for Lucknow were Paul Hamilton 3, Don Elliott 1. Assists went to Steve Simpson 2, Don Elliott 1, Steve MacPherson 1, Doug Dorscht 1. , The team is to be congratulated on winning this series. They , put forth a great team effort and they are inviting you their fans to come and see them in their next series. The schedule will be announced later. Canadiens while Doug Edisbury tallied for the Red Wings. The Black Hawks beat the Leafs in the third game 3 - 1. Brian Arnold scored twice and Terry Brown once for the Black Hawks and 'Ed VanOsch scored for the Leafs. Next week, February 26: 10.00, Black Hawks vs Red Wings; 11.00, Rangers vs Leafs; 12.00, Canadiens vs Bruins. Complete Work Al Test Day The senior skaters from the Lucknow Skating Club attended a Test Day in Listowel Arena on Sunday, February 20. The skaters were very successful. Gordon Farrish, Wayne Phillips, Joanne Pickard, Chris Faber and Tracy McDonagh passed their Dutch Waltz.., Joanne Pickard, Jackie Beasley and Wayne Phillips passed the Canasta, Nancy Haldenby the Fiesta Dance and ,Cathy Chisholm the Willow.. Joanne Pickard and Judy Hunter passed their Preliminary Figures. The junior members have been working hard also and have passed many national skaters tests. Beginners: Angela and Arletta Glenn, Gerald Nivins, Lisa Stanley, Sheila and Sandra Campbell, Jackie Wilson, Charlene Conley, Julie Nicholson, Wayne Nivins, Bradley Priestap, Karen Pickard, Josie den Boer. Stroking: Cindy Strnthers, Den- ise Helm, Sheila and Sandra Camp- bell, Gerald Nivins, Lisa Stanley, Bradley Preistap. • Elementary- Sheila and Sandra Campbell. The, skaters are working hard to try and put on a good show. The theme for the juniors is "Snowball Express" and for 'the seniors "The Sound of Music". A mother's meeting will be held Monday during skating to discuss the children's costumes. • Juveniles Win In Firsi Round Lucknow Juveniles, while await- ing the O.M.H.A. finals played Clinton the best of five series in the W.O.A.A. grand championship. The local boys took the series 3 games straight. The 1st game was played in Lucknow on Wednesday,' February 9 with Lucknow managing to stay ahead and win 4-3 with goal scorers Randy Alton 2 goals and 1 assist, ' Rick Taylor 1 goal, Tam Forster 1 goal and 1 assist and 1 assist each for Rod Simpson, Al Murray and Toni O'Keefe. The second game played in Clinton on February 19th ended in a 7-7 tie and went into overtime with Randy Alton firing the, winning goal at the five minute mark and Clinton was held scoreless. Goal scorers were Randy Alton 3 goals and I assist, Tom Peterson 1 goal, Tam Forster 2 goals and 3 assists, Rick Howald 1 goal and 2 assists, Rod Simpson 1 goal and 1 assist. Terry Arm- strong, Doug Shiell, Kevin Cowan and Don Burley had 1 assist each. Clinton returned to Lucknow SUnday, February 20 to play a game in which Lucknow had no difficulty in beating them 7.2. Goal scorers were Torn Peterson 2 goals and 1 assist, Kevin Cowan 1 goal and 1 assist, Rick Taylor 2 goals d Randy Alton 1 goal. John McLeod, Don Burley, Doug Shiell, Al Murray, Rick Howald, Rod Simpson and Rick Conley each got 1 assist. OLIVET Miss Nancy McGuire of London is spending this week at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGuire and family. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Moore and family of Ripley visited last Wednesday, evening with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar White. Our deepest sympathy goes, out to the family of the late. Ardill Mason of Ripley, 'who passed away last week. Mr., and Mrs. Mason lived for a number of 'years on the 4th concession of Huron Township. Mrs. Walter Black and Joyce and Mrs. Jack ' McGuire .visited on Sunday with Mr. and -Mrs. Henry Howe of Listowel. The community extends 'its sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Gordon Bridge of the Clarke Community who passed away in London hospital last week. Intermediate C Playoff Port Elgin vs Lucknow Second game, best of seven Because of the playoff confusion of teams being eliminated and tentative game times and later changing, we ask our hockey fans to watch for posters, listen to CKNX Radio and ask your favourite hockey player for information of up-coming games. To date Lucknow minor hockey teams have captured the W.O.A.A. DD' championship in Atom, Bantam, Midget and Juvenile categories and the Pee Wees are currently. involved in the playoff finals for the same honour. Most teams are waiting for word of when and where the O.M.H.A. playoffs begin. Games locally will continue as near as possible on the regular nights i.e. Atom and Bantam Monday nights; Midget Tuesday, Pee Wee on Fridays; Juvenile Sunday afternoon and Intermediate Sunday nights. The February meeting of the Ashfield Presbyterian Church W.M.S. met at the home of Mrs. Bill. Ross in Lucknow. Mrs. Rhoda MacKenzie has been' on a trip to Florida as tour escort for Hanover Travel. John Martyn, now of Moncton N.B., was a recent visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Martyn and family. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan FatTish spent the weekend in Detroit, where they saw son David play hockey with the New York Rangers. Bain MacLennan was admitted to Wingham Hospital on Sunday last. Mrs. Emile MacLennan and datighter Florence were recent visitors in Palmerston with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Millar and boys and in Stratford with Mr. and Mrs. Jack MacLennan and Johnnie. Gordon Finlayson reports an enjoyable trip to Mexico City with his brother John, and is much improved in' health. Mr. and Mrs. John Finlayson plan to move soon from Mexico to Caracos, South America. PIPERS INVITED TO ROSE BOWL An invitation has been received by the Pipe Band, of which Finlay MacLennan and Rod MacLennan are members, to attend the Rose Bowl parade in California on New Years Day 1978. During the, past two years they have been in Florida for the Orange Bowl Parade. Mr. and Mrs. Joe La grande have moved from the former Dexter house to the' Amherley district. Saturday night, March 12 is the Lucknow Skating Club Carnival.
