FEDERAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT BANK Lucknow Unit' 2 Unit 2 of Lucknow United Church Women held their meeting in the church parlour on February 8 following a delicious luncheon served to units 1, 2 and 3 by the central executive of the U.C.W. The president, Mrs. Glen Walden, assisted by the leaders of the various departments of our U.C.W. outlined the duties of each leader. The members of each group then met to conduct their own meeting. The roll call was answered by 12 members who read verses of Scripture containing the word `door'. Mrs. Eldon Bradley kindly offered to continue the Study Book at March meeting. An excellent reading 'Some one cares' was givedby Mrs. Al Irwin. Mrs. John Kilpatrick gave a reading regard- ing our moderator, Rev. Dr. Howard's Lenten Messages broad- cast each day from Ottawa during the two weeks of the Lenten season. Meeting closed with the mizpah benediction. Lucknow Unit 5 Unit Five of Lucknow United Church Women met on February 8 at 8.00 p.m. in the choir room of the church. Mrs. A. J. Wilson opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Ken Cameron treasurer, gave her report. An invitation to meet with the Presbyterian Evening Auxiliary in the Presbyterian Church on March 15 was read. Thirteen members answered the roll call. A committee was named to plan Unit 5 visit to Pinecrest on. March 7. The group were remined of the general meeting on February. 15 and Bruce Presbyterial at Tara on March 7. Mrs. Gordon Morrison reported for social functions and Mrs. Albert Morningstar for com- munity friendship. The offering was received. Unit Five then joined Unit Four in the Fellowship Room. Mrs. Lucknow Unit 1 Unit 1 LucknOw United Church Women met in a joint meeting with units 2 and 3 in the fellowship room on Tuesday afternoon February 8th at 1.30. The meeting was prepared by the senior executive of the U.C.W. and Mrs. Glen Walden president, was chairman. After a delicious dessert we enjoyed a program of singing, devotional and a well prepared program in which each member of the executive gave information about the duties, per- taining to their office. All found this very informative and interest- ing. Unit 1 then held a short meeting in the fellowship room with Mrs. Chas. McDonald leader and 15 members answering the roll call. It was announced that the General Meeting would be on Tuesday evening, February 15th at 8 o'clock and we were also reminded of the Bruce Presbyterial on March 7th at Tara. Mrs. Eldon Henderson gave a good report on community friendship and visiting and the meeting closed with the' benedic- tion. Allan Johnson led in a lively sing song accompanied by Mrs. Harvey Houston. The devotional period was led by Mrs. E. Bradley and Mrs. G. Johnstone. The officers of U.C.W. took their places in a horseshoe form. Mrs. Glenn Walden, president, chaired the meeting. Mrs. Walden. explained how the executive could be divided into Central , Executive, Stewardship Division, Leadership Division, Cit- izenship Division. Each member of the Executive then described her duties and obligations. Mrs. V. Hunter then outlined the organization of the. U.C.W. in the conference. The hymn "He leadeth me 0 blessed thought" was sung and Mrs. Walden closed with prayer. The executive served lunch and a social half hour was enjoyed. The theme was Christian Devel- opment in charge of Mrs. Milan Moore, Mrs. Wardrop and Mrs. Adams. The meeting opened with singing hymn "Dear Lord and Father of mankind". Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Wardrop reviewed the book of Frances Moore Lapp. The topic "Food and Myths in the World" brought up the question, Why so 'much hunger in some countries? The answer was some countries grow food for export and let their own folks go hungry. Holland has more petple per square mile than, any other country and yet their people do not go hungry. The hymn, Jesus calls us o'er the tumult was sung. The scripture, Matthew 25: 34-46 was read by Mrs. Bob Adams. Mrs. Wardrop gave a meditation on hunger. Mrs. Milian .Moore led in prayer. Skits were put on by Mrs. Dave Gibb, Mrs. Fred Tiffin, Mrs. Bob Adams and Mrs. Lorne Dienin, showing how some senior 'citizens are visited. Nine answered the roll call with a verse from Psalms. Mrs. Lorne Durnin gave the courtesy remarks and closed the meeting with prayer. The Travel- ling Basket was then passed around. Huronview News. Many' of the activities of the Home were cancelled in the past month due to weather conditions. The Bobbie Burns prograearrang- ed by Jim Lawrie of Blyth was held' on Family Night and was greatly appreciated by the residents. Five new residents were welcom- ed to the Home at Monday afternoon's old tyme music pro- gram, Miss Irene Paton, Mrs. Catherine Diggon, Cecil Skinner, Thomas O'Neil and Joshua Penny. Elsie Henderson, Norman Speir and Cecil Skinner provided the music. Wanetta and Bill Holland and Hugh Hodges entertained on Family Night with country and western music. Wally Crich, a former neighbour of the Hollands, expressed the appreciation of the residents for the hour of fine music. PURPLE GROVE Get well wishes are extended to Margaret Robertson of Lucknow, who is a patient in Wingham Hospital. Bonnie, Heather and Corinne Boyle were the farmers ' last weekend while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle, visited in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliott and Ian of Windsor spent the weekend at their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Doti McCosh visited on Friday evening with Sandra and Don Forster. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Collins are enjoying a holiday in Calgary, Alberta. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Collins and family last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Green of Arthur and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carroll and their new son Bobby from Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sutton and family were dinner guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. John Farrell and Teresa. Dick McCosh and Don Thompson spent Friday in London. Miss Nancy Maier, who spent the past six months with Cathy and Vicki Dore, returned to her home in Regina, Saskatchewan on Tuesday. WHITECHURCH Services 'at the United Church were' cancelled on Sunday due 'to stormy weather. Little Robbie Smith of Goderich is a visitor with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adams, 2nd concession. Kinloss. SPORTS, reporter Gregor Peebles. BOYS FLOOR HOCKEY On Wednesday, December 8, Bombers played the Flyers. The score was 6 to 3. Goals were scored by Kevin Boyle, Marty Guikema and Todd Walden for the Bombers. The Flyers goals were scored by Bobby Cameron and Terry Irwin. The same day, the Klondike Kids played Maple Leafs. The score was 4 to 3 for the Klondike Kids. The gd'als were scored by Gary Rut- ledge and. Paul Harris for the Kids. The last" game of the day was Canadians against the Hens. The score was 4 to 2.
