By-law # 15, 1976, the Kirk
Municipal Drain Repair and Im-
provement By-law, was given third
reading and finally passed on
motion of Councillors Foran and
Hickey.
By-law #13, 1976,--the Redmond
Municipal Drain By-law, was given
third reading and finally passed 01)
motion of Councillors Stothers and
Cranston.
A motion by Councillors Hickey
and Cranston authorized the Clerk
to advertise for tenders for
construction of the Kirk Municipal
Drain Repair and Improvement,
and also the Redmond Municipal
Drain.
The Clerk was direCted to write
to the Planning Board, stating that
the new road at Nile would be
accepted by the Township as part
of its road system once it conforms
to the Ministry of Transportation
and Communications' standards
for a municipal road.
Motion by Councillors Foran and
Hickey: "That Road Superintend-
ent, George Humphrey, be paid
$5.30 per hour for the year 1977,
plus 100% OHIP coverage and
thrOe weeks' vacation with pay."
By-law # 1, 1977, was given third
reading and finally passed on
motion of Councillors Cranston and
Hickey. This by-law sets salaries
for the various positions held by
township. _elected and appointed
officials and road employees.
Salaries are: Clerk, $3035. (2860);
Treasurer, $2335. (2200); Reeve,
$580. (550); Councillors, $525.
(495); grader operator $4.90 per
hour ($4.50) plus OHIP coverage;
wingmen, $4.00 per hour (3.75);
casual labour, $3.40 per hour
(3.20); disposal site superintend-
ent, $3.30 (3.10). Two new
fenceviewers were named, Larry
Pentland to succeed Wilfred Pent-
land and Lorne Alton to succeed
,Gordon Smyth. Alex Nivins was
named to replace the late Harvey
McPhee as livestock evaluator.
By-law #2, 1977, in the amount of
$200.000.00 was given third read-
ing and finally passed on motion of
Councillors Hickey and Foran.
This is , the regular borrowing
by-law to authorize the borrowing
of ' sufficient funds to cover
necessary expenditures until taxes
are collected.
Representatives on the various
committees were named: Harold
Errington, 2-year term on Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority;
Councillor Cranston, Arena Coin-
mittee, Recreation Committee;
Councillors Stothers and Foran,
Fire Committee; Reeve Lyons,
Medical Centre; Councillor Hickey,
Farm Safety Association, Recrea-
tion Conimittee,. Councillor Cran-
ston volunteered to contact respect-
ive' candidates with a view to
forming a more vital and active
Recreation Committee.
The road accounts were ordered
paid On motion of Councillors
Hickey and Stothers.

Lucknow Man

WILLIAM J. BROWN
William JameS Brown passed
away on Monday, January 10 at
Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home,.
Lucknow in his 87th year.
He was born in Ashfield Town-
ship on August 20, 1890, a son of
Samuel Brown and Emily Cooper.
On March 12, 1919 he married
Ethel Bell of Huron Township. She
passed away on January 9, 1972.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown retired to
Lucknow in 1948. Prior to that he
was a merchant at Langide from
1927 to 1948.
He is survived by two daughters.
Mrs. Clarke (Ardyss) Johnston of
Belgrave and Mrs. Charles (Gert-
rude) Tiffin of Wingham; two
granddaughters, Mrs. George (Lin-
da) Young of Wingham and Janette
Johnston of London; three great
grandchildren and one sister, Mrs.
Elizabeth Ferguson of Lucknow. •
Besides his wife, he was prede-
ceased by three brothers, Richard
of Ripley, Thomas and Walter,
both of Amberley. •
The funeral service was held at
MacKenzie Memgrial Chapel,
Lucknow on Wednesday, January
12. Rev. Glenn Noble of Lucknow
Presbyterian Church, of which the
deceased .was a member, was
minister.
The late Mr. Brown was a
member of Old Light Lodge #184.
A Lodge service was conducted at
the chapel on Tuesday evening.
Temporary entombment was at
South Kinloss Mausoleum.

Miss Margaret MacLeod has
gone to spend the balance of the
winter in Toronto.
Tom Farrell, formerly of this
community, is a patient in Kincar-
dine Hospital.
