At* WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 1977 THE LUCKNOW SENTINEL, LUCKNOW, ONTARIO !Unless Man Died In 89th Year MALCOLM LANE Malcolm (Mac) Lane, a lifetime farmer in Kinloss Township, pas- sed away in Wingham and District Hospital on Sunday, December 19th, in his 89th year. He was born in Kinloss Town- ship on January 31st, 1888, a son of John Lane and Eliza Rutherford. He married Myrtle Congram on April 4th, 1923, at the home of the bride's parents, Kinloss Township. In 1973 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The late Mr. Lane served sixteen years as a school trustee and for twenty-five years filled in as Santa Claus at the concerts in all the churches and schools in his area. He enjoyed people and visiting, loved flowers and gardening and was quite active until hospitalized eight weeks prior to his death. His' wife, Mrs. Lane, has been hospitalized since suffering a Mrs. Don Bushell and family; Dr. and Mrs. Donald Hodgins, David and Janine were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hodgins and John on Christmas. Ratidy and Douglas Jansen of Cochrane were down over the Christmas holiday with their grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy. The many friends of Jack Ross, concession 10, are sorry to know he is a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. The Presbyterian congregation held a Christmas Eve Communion Service. Mr. and Mrs.. Olen Haldenby, Lea Anne, Glen, Eric; Randy and Doug Jansen; Wayne Percy; Mrs. Susan Weber and Michael were dinner guests on Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy.. Randy and Douglas Jansen returned home to Cochrane over the weekend. The many south line and area friends are sorry to know that Delbert Nesbitt is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy, Miss Winnifred Percy, Bill and Brian Percy, Wayne Percy, Mrs. Susan Weber and Michael are having New Year's with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Haldenby and family. Mr. and Mrs. Donald McEwan and Duncan, Westford, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brindley, Peggy and Jeffrey of Dungannon spent Christ- mas with Mr. and Mrs. John White, Kincardine. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McEwan and children were with the Anderson family at Lucknow for Christmai. Miss Jeannette Barr oVitchen- er was home for the holiday. Miss Janet Bushell R.N. return- ed to Victoria after a , most enjoyable 'Christmas holiday here. Mrs. Gertrude Walsh, who is spending the winter months in Kincardine, held a family gather- ing there on Christmas Day. During the day they received a telephone call from her son Jack and his family at Nelfort, Saskatch- ewan. Christmas visitors with Mrs. Bertha Haldenby and boys and Mr. ZION Diane Gibson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gibson, was admitted to Wingham General and Mrs. Barry Haldenby and girls were Mr. and Mn.S Don Haldenby and girls of Islington; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Friendorf and Jason-- of Elmira; Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brown, Julie and Vicki of Brockville; Mr. and Mrs.,,, Delbert Hedley and family; Mr. , and Mrs. Ross Irwin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Haldenby .and family of Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnston and family of concession 8. Mrs. Delbert Hedley, Debbie and Karen returned with Miss Cathy Hedley and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Friendorf and Jason at Elmira, over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Nicholson and Brandon returned to their home in Wallaceburg after spend- ing the holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson and Lois. Hospital Saturday evening for an appendectomy. • Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cook and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and family held the Hamilton family gathering Christ- mas at Holyrood Hall on Sunday. Their sisters and families, number- ing about 50, sat down, for a dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gibson and amily had their Christmas gather- t g recently at the home of, her sister Carol, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McNeil of Dungannon. ACHIEVEMENT DAY Achievement Day for the Zippy Trinettes Ashfield 4-H Club Girls "The Cereal Shelf" was held on Saturday at Brookside Public School. Those receiving their county Honours (6 clubs complet- ed) were Lori Hackett and Janet Wilkins of Zion, Sharon Alton and Karen Campbell of 10th conces- sion. Cheryl Hackett received her Provincial Honours (12 clubs com- pleted). stroke in June. Besides his wife Mr. Lane is survived by four sons and one daughter, Everett of Caledonia, Hugh of Kinloss Township, Kath- leen (Mrs. Campbell Brown) of Strathroy, John of Port Elgin, Stewatt of Kinloss Township; one brother Andrew Lane of Goderich, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers, Liz (Mrs. Dave (Webster) Alton), Jean (Mrs. Wm. MacDonald), John R. Lane, Rev. Wm. P. Lane, Hugh g. Lane, Dr. Richard D. Lane, Rev. David J. Lane. The funeral service was held at the MacKenzie Memorial. Chapel, Lucknow on Wednesday, Decem- ber 22nd. Rev. Thompson of Kinlough Presbyterian Church of which the deceased was a member, conducted the service. Pallbearers were neighbours, Fred Guest, Roy Shaw, Bill Shaw, Keith Maulden, Don Bushell, James MacEwan. Flower bearers were Wm. Burt and Walter Breckles. Temporary entombment was at South Kinloss Mausoleum with final resting place Greenhill Cem- etery. KINLOUGH Intended for last week The Women's Institute had a most successful euchre party at the Holyrood Hall on Tuesday evening. Everyone was still glowing with the Happy Christmas Season and hopes for the New Year ahead. Everybody played well and had a good time, but highest scores went to Mrs. Cliff Johnston, Mrs. Ellwood Elliott and Jerry Van- Beers. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Stanley and lamily, concession 10, entertained their neighbours at a social evening and delicious refreshments at their home. Weir Eckenswiller' is convalesc- ing at his home with broken ribs. Mr. and Mrs. Torn MacDonald and Elma Mae spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Guest at Teeswater. Mrs. Guest's many friends 'here wish her improved health. Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell, Janet, Bruce and Betty Ann were dinner guests on Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morningstar at Port Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacDonald, Carl and Lisa spent Christmas at Kitchener with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Yeandle.
