Select Committee on
Highway Transportation of Goods
The Committee presented to the Legislature an
interim report dated September 30th, 1976,
which dealt with certain aspects of the trans-
portation of goods on Ontario highways.
In preparation for its final report, due to be
tabled February 28th, 1977, the Committee is
inviting WRITTEN submissions from interested
individuals and groups. These should be re-
ceived at the Committee office not later than
'Monday. January 10th, 1977

The annual Chriittitas School
concert presented by the students
of St. Joseph's School at Kings-
bridge was postponed from Tues-
day, December 21 and held the
following evening because of the
bad weather. Master of 'ceremon-
ies, principal David Zyluk congrat-
ulated the parents on bringing their
children out on such a frightful
evening and held a vote to see
whether the concert would go
ahead. The majority vote favoured
the go ahead and those parents
who wished to take their children
home before the roads were
completely blocked were advised to
do so. The concert was not
presented in its entirety but the
numbers that were presented were
thoroughly enjoyed leaving ,every-
one wanting to see the rest of it. It
is hoped this will, be done at a later
date as the teachers and ptipils had
spent much time in preparing the
skits, gymnastics, etc. As. Santa
Claus had made his appearance in
the afternoon, Reverend Father Ed
Dentinger, C.R. presented tile gifts
to the smaller children.

December 23 to spend a two week
Christmas vacation at the home of

holiday season with her daughter

Allan Drennan, son of Mr. and

Thompson of Clinton flew from the
Toronto International Airport to
Acapulco, Mexico on Christmas
Day, Saturday, December 25 for a
10 day Christmas vacation. They
returned to their homes here 'on
Sunday January 2.
Mr. and. Mrs. Raymond. Hogan
flew from the Toronto International
Airport on Sunday, December 26
for a three week holiday in Quito,
Ecuador. They plan to visit with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angel
Vega and other relatives and
friends. •

Hogan returned to their home in
Calgary, Alberta by plane from the
Toronto' International Airport on

12 day vacation with their parents

A large crowd attended the New
Years Eve dance and Smorgasbord
held at the Saltford Valley Hall on
New Years Eve,. Friday, December
31, music for dancing was supplied
by Star Trex.
Due to poor visibility and
because of several "accidents on
Highway 21 north of Goderich, this
highway was closed between
Goderich and Amberley on Friday,
December 31. Many from this area
spent a quiet New Year's evening
at home because of blocked .roads
and the poor visibility.
Mr. and Mrs, Vincent Austin and
family moved to their new home on
Highway 21 on Tuesday, December
28. They purchased the home from
Mrs. Marie Austin.
Students returned to school on
Monday, January 3 following the
Christmas break.

perienced breathing difficulty
which necessitated his removal
to hospital. His many friends

Kairshea Women's Institute met
December 16th at the home ,of Mrs.
Donald C. Maclntyre for their
Christmas meeting. The meeting
opened with the Ode and Collect.
The president, Mrs. Cliff Roul-
ston welcomed guests and mem-
bers and read a verse "Christ-
mas". The scripture in keeping
with the season, Story of the Birth
of Christ, was given by Mrs.
Donald MacKinnon. The roll call
was answered by A' childhood
memory of Christmas.
The business was as follows: 4-H
leaders for the next course held in
Ripley January 19th and 20th. The
previous course " Clothes for
Leisure" - Norma Maclntyre and
Laurie Clark received 'County
Honours and Mary Eadie Provin-
cial Honours. (Congratulations
girls). Standing committee reports
were given by conveners.
Mrs. Virdin Mowbray took the
chair for the following program.
Mrs. Donald MacKinnon was
called on to introduce Mrs. Bill
Nelson, who gave a demonstration
of crafts. Mary demonstrated the
making of Mrs. Santa and told and
showed many inexpensive Christ=
mas decorations. Mrs. Leonard
Clark thanked Mrs. Nelson and
presented her with a gift.
Two articles were donated by
Mrs. Nelson and a draw for these
were won by Mrs. Ted Collyer and .
Mrs. Philip Steer.
The Christmas gift exchange was
enjoyed. The 4-H girls, which
included 2 clubs, gave their skits
which were put on Achievement
*Day'and displayed garments made.
The Christmas cake contest was
won by Mrs. Lloyd. MacDougall. A
musical number was enjoyed by the
Maclntyre, family. 0 Canada and
Grace was sung.
A delicious Christmas luncheon-
