Euchres sponsored by the Wo­ men’s Institute will be held in 1989 on the following dates: Jan. 6, Jan. 20, Feb. 3, Feb. 17, March 3, March 17 and March 31. OnTuesday, Dec. 13 a group of Londesboro and Blyth folk travelled by Sherwood bus toattend the Living Christmas Tree presentation at People’s Church, Toronto. Dinner was at Carl’s in Cambridge. On Sunday visitors with Beth Knox were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Baan and family of New Hamburg and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Baan of Walton. CHEERIO CLUB The December meeting of the CheerioClub was held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. Members had a lovely turkey dinner. All 11 members were present. Clara Riley said Grace. Stella Adams and Edythe Beacom had the lucky plates. Theluckybirthday was Margaret Good. Kathleen Semple informed mem­ bers that the first person to bring the mistletoe into the house was the ruler. Ida Evans read some Christ­ mas poems. Ruby Steiss read smiles and riddles. Guest speaker was Fred Klaasen, who spoke on becoming a W.I. members, what it means, contribu- tions to your branch, and responsi­ bilities of each member. She ended her speech with a poem. 4 Freda Pipe played the piano while Leona Armstrong led the members with carol singing. Ida Evans read a poem on a “Christmas Letter’’, about what two presents held. Kathleen Semple ended with “Christmas is Remem­ bering’’. Birthday wishes were sung to members with a birthday. The president Edna McLellan then closed the meeting wishing every­ one a Merry Christmas. DR. BEVERLEY A. LEE Jack and Helen Lee, Londesboro are pleased to announce that their daughter Beverley received her Doctor of Education Degree with a specialization in Adult Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Previously, she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Guelph in 1972, a Bachelor of Education in 1973 and a Master of Education in 1980 from the University of Toronto. Instead of joy, we settle for a momentary rush of emotion. We settle for artificial attempts to keep the peace instead of knowing innner peace and true harmony. All in all, we settle for the momentary thrill over experiencing genuine hope for the future.
