60 years married
Well over 100 relatives, friends
and neighbours attended a three-
day Open House over the weekend to
honour Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGee as
they celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary at their Gypsy Lane
home in Blyth.
Jack McGee and the former
Dorene Haney, daughter of William
and Elsie Haney, were married at
the Wingham Presbyterian Manse
on December 20, 1928, then took up
residence on the first farm north of
Blyth, in East Wawanosh Township
(now the Siep Bosma farm), where
they resided for the next 11 years.
They left the farm in 1939 to live at
various times in both Blyth and
Dungannon, where Jack continued
tofarm as well as to work for both the
Blyth Municipal Telephone System
and the Huron-Bruce Municipal
Telephone System for the next 30
years; he also drove school buses on
a number of local routes for 25 years,
retiring in 1980 when he was well
into his 70’s. He was also very active
in sports, especially in hockey.
The couple moved to Wingham in
1985, then to their present home in
Blyth in December, 1987.
Jack and Dorene had two daugh
ters, Dorothy (deceased) and Helen
of Clinton, as well as seven
grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren, ranging in age from
one to 17 years.
A family reunion and dinner, with
about 40 members present, was held
at the Dungannon United Church on
Saturday, December 10; while the
McGees held the open house at their
apartment on the afternoons of
December 16, 17 and 18.
