HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1988-12-21, Page 3Jack and Dorene McGee of Blyth celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on the weekend by hosting well over 100 relatives, friends and neighbours at an Open House at their Gypsy Lane home. Jack McGees mark 60 years married Well over 100 relatives, friends and neighbours attended a three- day Open House over the weekend to honour Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGee as they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their Gypsy Lane home in Blyth. Jack McGee and the former Dorene Haney, daughter of William and Elsie Haney, were married at the Wingham Presbyterian Manse on December 20, 1928, then took up residence on the first farm north of Blyth, in East Wawanosh Township (now the Siep Bosma farm), where they resided for the next 11 years. They left the farm in 1939 to live at various times in both Blyth and Dungannon, where Jack continued tofarm as well as to work for both the Blyth Municipal Telephone System and the Huron-Bruce Municipal Telephone System for the next 30 years; he also drove school buses on a number of local routes for 25 years, retiring in 1980 when he was well into his 70’s. He was also very active in sports, especially in hockey. The couple moved to Wingham in 1985, then to their present home in Blyth in December, 1987. Jack and Dorene had two daugh­ ters, Dorothy (deceased) and Helen of Clinton, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great­ grandchildren, ranging in age from one to 17 years. A family reunion and dinner, with about 40 members present, was held at the Dungannon United Church on Saturday, December 10; while the McGees held the open house at their apartment on the afternoons of December 16, 17 and 18.
