goal as Henry Bos banged in his own
rebound. Brian McNichol and Brad
Anderson assisted on a late first
period goal as Jason Rutledge went
the length of the ice to score.
Brian McNichol upped the count
to 5-1 midway through period two as
he took Jonathan Collins’ lead pass
and did the rest himself. One minute
later Jason Rutledge’s shot was
stopped by the Huron Park goalie
but Ryan Chamney put the rebound
over the fallen puck stopper. Huron
Park narrowed the margin to 6-3 but
Blyth scored later in the second
period as Christopher Howson
tipped in Henry Bos’ long shot.
Huron Park made things interesting
in the third period with tw o more
goals but Blyth shut the door on the
opposition offence the rest of the way
as they hung on for a 7-5 win.
This sent Blyth into the champion
ship game on Sunday afternoon
against the Southwest London
Atoms. Most of the damage occurr
ed in the second period as Blyth
steam-rolled their way to a convinc
ing 6-3 win.
Once again the opposition opened
the scoring but Blyth scored late in
the period to tie the score 1 -1. Jason
Rutledge passed to Ryan Chamney.
whose bad-angled shot somehow
eluded the London netminder. R\ an
gave Blyth the lead earl\ in the
second as he re-directed Scott
Arthur’s pass from the corner.
London tied the game on a fluke goal
12 seconds later but Blyth took the
lead for good only nine seconds later.
Brian McNichol’sshotwas deflected
first by Christopher Howson before
Henry Bos finally scored at the edge
of the crease.
Sixteen seconds later Brian McNi
chol pounced on the rebound of
Henry Bos’back ha nd shot to give
Blyth a 4-2 lead. Jason Rutledge
scored the final goal of the period as
he jumped on a Brad Anderson
corner pass to solidify Blyth’s lead.
Scott Arthurassisted on Blyth’s final
goal later in the third period as Brian
McNichol scored his second goal of
the game. London scored in the final
minute but by then the outcome was
clear. Good goaltending, solid
defence and unselfish teamwork
resulted in Blyth's6-3championship
victory. After the game gold medal
lions and crests were presented to a
very appreciative and ecstatic Blyth
team.
Let’s hope the teamwork contin
ues as the Atoms travel to Wingham
this coming weekend to play in the
prestigious Wingham Silver Stick
tournament.
