With John’s help the short-handed Bulls pulled out a 7-6 win. Short-handed Bulls upset Hawks A shorthanded Brussels Jr. D. Bulls team upset the visiting Mitchell Hawks 7-6 Sunday after noon as the line of Campbell, Rutledge and Fritz enjoyed a 13 point game. Once again the Juniors were short of players as exams, sickness and injury forced 10 regulars to miss the game. Brussels opened the scoring early in the first period as Brian Campbell tipped home a Kevin Talsma point shot. The Bulls held the lead until the dying seconds of the period when a Mitchell powerplay goal evened the count at 1-1. Brian Campbell opened the scor ing in the second, knocking in a Marty Rutledge rebound. Mitchell clicked with Steve Fritz scoring from Vincent and Rutledge. Again Mit chell tied the score only to see Rutledge pick the top corner off a face-off for a 4-3 Bulls lead after two periods. Mitchell quickly tied the score in the third before Rutledge’s second from Campbell restored the lead. Penalty troubleforMitchell gave the Bulls a two-man advantage and the powerplay clicked twice, Fritz from Rutledge and Campbell followed 23 seconds later by Campbell’s third of the game from Rutledge and Talsma for a 7-4 lead. As in previous games the Bulls inexperience almost cost them as Mitchell scored twice in a 49-second span. Fortunately the solid goaltending of John Steffler and the Bulls defence shut down the Mitchell offense for the remainder of the game giving the juniors a well-earned7-6victory. Mitchell outshot Brussels 43-33. Special mention goes to Brian Campbell who had the hat-trick and Marty Rutledge who enjoyed a six-point game. Also thanks to the two midget players Steve Fritz and Brian Alcock both who played excellent games. Latest OHA stats show Marty Rutledge, Brian Campbell and Ron Strome running first, second and fourth in the scoring race. As well the injured Murray Townsend has the league’s best goaltending average. The Bulls will play a home and home series with the Exeter Hawks beginning Friday night in Exeter followed by a Sunday afternoon game in Brussels at 2 p.m. Late goal sinks Blyth Peewees Seaforth came from behind Mon day night toedge Blyth Pee Wees 3-2 in WOAA Pee Wee action in Blyth.
