Phone 887-9487 Belgrave Kinsmen Past President Niel Edgar, left, presented the “Kinsman of the Year” Award to Harvey Black of Belgrave during the club’s annual Past President’s and Ladies’ Night at the Wingham Golf and Country Club on December 7. White Gift service held at Knox church Familiar Christmas Carols re­ sounded on the morning air from Knox United Church on Sunday, December 11 as the many members and friends congregated to celebrate White Gift Sunday. The sanctuary was tastefully decorated with poinsettias, red and white flower arrangements, a tree aglow and lighted tapers in the candelabra. Two silver baskets of Christmas blooms and cedar boughs added to the festive decorations. A piano-organ prelude of Christ­ mas numbers with Mrs. Leslie Shaw, pianist and Mrs. George Procter, organist, was presented. The Prayer of Approach was given by Rev. John G. Roberts, followed by the Processional hymn “0 Come All Ye Faithful”. Psalm 40 was read responsively as Rev. Roberts lit the third Advent Candle. The minister chose Scripture Reading from Acts 3, which relates the story of the lame man at the temple gate begging for alms and included Peter and John’s reply. The 14-voicechildren’s choir sang as their anthems “Go Tell it on the Mountain’’, “Away in a Manger,” “Come on Ring those Bells”, and “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly”, with organ accompaniment. A report on the Foster Child, Bernard of Kenya Africa, was given by the School Superintendent, Mrs. Ruth Gordon. She stated, “He is a Class five pupil, that 100 per cent of the children are mal-nourished, no records are kept; the money used is the Kenyan shilling; foster children wear uniforms; children earn a small amountofmoneybycleaning and washing. A letter of thanks had been received by the Belgrave Sunday School. The ushers and offering stewards were Kenneth Procter, Ross Hig­ gins, Mark Coultes and David McKee. The White Gift baskets were passed by Jennifer Cook and Todd Walker. The choir members occupied the central front pews to receive the message. This was a Question and Answer form, from which the group learned that Peter had no money but gave what he had. Giving is always important; not necessarily monetary giving but “faith”. Faithfulness, and Commitment, Witness and Service, by attendance are import­ ant. Each person learns daily throughout his life. Appropriate hymns were sung during the service. During the Sunday morning ser­ vice at Knox United Church, Bel­ grave onDecember 11, Rev. John G. Robertsdedicatedanew, electri­ cally illuminated, Latin-type 6’6” x 4’6” cross which had been recently installed on the rear wall of the choir loft. This emblem of the Christian faith and of Christendom which is constructed of oak wood, was donated in memory of the late Earl Anderson to the glory of God, by Mrs. Sarah Anderson and her family: Mrs. Patricia Hunking, Audrey and Bill Schreiber, Muriel and Ed Hartlin, Jim and Delvia Anderson, Keith and Jean Ander­ son, Karen and Tom Moy. Belgrave UCW holds Christmas meeting The Christmas meeting of the Evening Unit of the Belgrave U.C.W. was held at the home of Mrs. RossG. Anderson, December 6. The roll call was answered by everyone’s favourite Carol. The group will send the Canadian Geographic to the hospital again. During the worship service, led by Mrs. Ross Higgins and Mrs. Leslie Shaw, the carols. ‘‘Joy to the World”. “Hark the Herald Angels sing” and “While Shepherds watch­ ed their flocks by night’ ’ were sung. The evening unit will donate money to help Heather McIntosh as she jo ns the Campus Crusade for Christ during the Christmas vaca­ tion. Carmen Farrier and son Brian of Torontovisitedwith Charlie Higgins and Mrs. Joel (Carol) Hawley. Kendra and Elissa of RD#1, Box 409, South Gibson, Pennsylvania, U.S.A, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Higgins and attended the commital service of their dear sister and aunt, Winnifred Farrier, Friday, Decem­ ber 9 at 11 a.m. in the Lucknow Cemetery. Rev. Robert Nichols, Century United, Toronto, formerly of Luck­ now, conducted the service. Follow­ ing the service, lunch was served at the United Church, Whitechurch. Mr. and Mrs. Paresh (Colleen) Athparia and family of Calgary were unable to attend as they are in Guam on their way to India to visit Paresh’s family. Neighbours and friends of this community wish to extend sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence UNICEF makes year-round gift giving easy.
