Morris deals with old business dosing, new one starting Morris Township clerk-treasurer Nancy Michie had the honour of administering the Declaration of Office and the Oath of Allegiance to all members of the new council on December 6, just prior to their inaugural meeting. The ceremony was followed by a prayer, scripture reading and a dedication offered by Rev. Bonnie Lamble of the Walton Pastoral Charge. Reeve Doug Fraser then welcom­ ed new members Deloris Souch and Wayne Riley to council, as well as welcoming back councillor Bert Elliott and Deputy-reeve Clem McLellan. He also thanked Rev. Lamble for her inspiration for the upcoming term of council. The first item of business on the new council's agenda was a discus­ sion of the premises of the old township shed, recently vacated by Harkness Victorian Millworks when the company went bankrupt. Coun­ cil was informed thatasaleofthe assets of the business will be held at the shed on December 14, and approved amotionthata letter be sent to Morris Electric to request that hydro services be re-installed at the premises. Morris Twp. will also forward a claim for back rent and for the 1988 business tax to the firm’s trustee in bankruptcy, D.A. McLeod Co. Ltd. of Ottawa. Council also learned that an objection has been received regard­ ing the designation of the old Belgrave Hotel under the Ontario Heritage Act, and that unless the objection is withdrawn, the matter will have to go to a Conservation Review Board hearing nextyear. Council authorized Mrs. Michie to write a letter to the party objecting, outlining the procedure. A request for an amendment to the Morris Twp. Secondary Plan was approved that could let John Deter- ing locate a mobile home park on the north half of Lot 18, Concession 6. In order to proceed, an application must be submitted to the county’s Planning and Development Com­ mittee requesting a zoning change from agricultural to rural for the location, as well as the designation of a restricted agricultural area around the proposed location. A letter was also received from the new owners of the old Walton Inn, advising council that they hope to convert the facility into a bed-and- breakfast, as well as toa craft shop in the future. A bylaw was passed authorizing a tile drainage debenture for 1989; and drainage superintendent Gary Nicholson was authorized to attend the primary drainage course at Alliston January 3-13, with all expenses paid. Petitions for drain maintenance were accepted for the Ellis, Mustard and Warwick Drains; and a petition was accepted for the re-engineering of the outlet for the Coultes Municipal Drain, with Mait­ land Engineering appointed to prepare a report. Still on drainage, Maitland En­ gineering advised that Glen Sellers Brussels Seniors celebrate Christmas On Wednesday, Dec. 7, 35 membersandfriends of the Brussels Senior Friendship Club enjoyed a Christmas dinner, catered by Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Fred Thuell and Alf Sutton played livelyjigs, Ethel Sutton sang two Christmas songs. Five “Senior Cuties’’ had everyone laughing with their performance. Six tables of progressive euchre were played. Everyone wishes to invite you to our club the third Wednesday of every month, in the Legion. has requested that the Bone Drain be extended to the east half of Lot 17, Concession 2; council will ask Mr. Sellers to request a petition so that the township may proceed under the Drain Maintenance Program. Coun­ cil was also advised that a complaint had been received about the con­ struction of the Nichol Drain; Deputy-reeve McClellan offered to investigate. Council passed a motion support­ ing an application for severance from Frank and Doris Sanders at Lot 6. Concession 7; the application is now before the Huron County Planning and Develop me nt Com­ mittee. Building permits were ap­ proved for Fred and Heather Keech fora “Granny Flat’’ at Lot 27-28, Concession 1; and to Wayne Fear for a driving shed addition at Lot 4, Concession 5. A motion was passed to advertise for a landfill site attendant to operate the recycling bin at the Morris Twp. site, and to accept admittance cards at the gate. Council also passed a motion that a charge of $25 per load be levied against the Township of Grey for each load of weed seeds received at the Morris Landfill Site from Cook’s Mill at Walton. New councillors Mrs. Souch and Mr. Riley were authorized to attend the New Councillors’ Seminar in Stratford on February 3-4, with registration, per diem and mileage to be paid by council. A grant of $1,400 was made to Morris Twp. Recreation for 1988; a grant of $100 was approved for the ' A/\ ZI. 1LW . Huron County Christmas Bureau; and accounts totalling $5,412.18 were approved for payment at the Morris Twp. Recreation Committee Meeting following the council meet- ing. Among these were the 1988 grants of $500 to the Walton Sports Committee and $4,612.18 to the Wingham Recreation Committee. General accounts totalling $419,482.34 and road accounts totalling $54,199.64 were approved for payment.
