East Wawanosh history deadline set for January 9 Submissions of East Wawanosh family histories to be included in the 1992 township history book must be inthebookcommittee’shands by January 9, or risk being left out of the ambitious project. “We’ve already extended the deadline twice, and we just can’t wait any longer if this is all going to come together in time, ’ ’ said Robert Charter, chairman of the History Book Committee. The committee meets again on January 9. The 350-page book is being planned for release in the fall of 1991, in time for Christmas giving and to coincide with East Wawa- nosh’s 125th anniversary which will be celebrated in the summer of 1992. “That may seem like a long time off,’’ Mr. Charter said, “But we have a heck of a lot to do. ’ ’ A suggested format for writing a family history was delivered last summer to every township resident and to many former residents, but only about 40 of the 350 forms have been returned to date, Mr. Charter said. The forms were intended just to give a basic outline of a history, he said, and need not be used if the writer prefers to write his own story, which should be limited to about 1,000 words, to take up one page in the book. Submissions may be edited, and help is available in writing the family stories if need be, the chairman said. He also said that family photos should be included with each history, as well as any other historically important photographs depicting the township’s history. All photographs will be carefully copied and returned to their owners within a few days, Mr. Charter said, while a couple of professional photograph ers have offered to photograph families at their homes, to be included in the book, if need be. Cliff Coultes of RR 1, Belgrave, has offered to co-ordinate the project, while Agnes McBurney will develop a section on the township’s churches and cemeteries; Marie Toll will be responsible for school histories; Norman Coultes and Bob Peck will summarize township busi ness and industry; Ralph Scott will research agriculture; Joyce Vincent will write a history of the Belgrave School Fair; Jack Taylor will re search the Belgrave Kinsmen’s history as well as the history of sports and recreational facilities in East Wawanosh; and John Currie will assist with family histories. Profes sional artist Ron Walker of RR 3, Bly th, has offered to illustrate the book, Mr. Charter said.
