CHARLES CARPENTIER BRUSSELS AND ETHEL UNITED CHURCHES “Look Rev.’’ he said, “There are about 15 million people in Canada who will be watching T.V. tonight, and do you think for one moment that they are worried about nuclear submarines and improved atomic weapons, and what it will cost the taxpayer? You’re nuts if you so believe I They’re worried about next Friday’s grocery bill!’’ If that is so then this is the sin of man, not that he has committed this sinful act or that, such as stealing or cursing or adultery. The sin of man consists of the fact that he has become a sheep instead of a man, that he has allowed himself to be led about by other men or women for their selfish interest, or that he has simply followed the selfish dictates of his own heart, when he was meant to be a child of God, listening to the voice of God, doing the commands of God, sharing in the purposes of God. C.W. Wright Mills said in one of his books: “Each day men sell little pieces of their lives in order to buy them back each night and each weekend with the coin of “FUN”. With amusement, withlove, with movies, with vicarious intimacy, they pull themselves into a sort of whole again, so that they are different men.” Small wonder that we often regard leisure time as a time for recreation .... recreation! We need to be made over again into men and women OR is it the sin of our computers, mechanization and auto mation? See what has happened to our moral choices: not “what is right’’ but “what are the other sheep doing”. And so, the men and women in power over us, are looking upon us the masses of this country, as sheep they must herd into their fold, there to fleece themto divide up the mutton! Now.Ialsoknow, that it is popular to look upon the crowd with impatience, anger or contempt, and to blame everything on “the little guy’ ’. But how did Jesus react to the crowd... this flock of sheep without a shepherd? He had compassion on them. He began treating them like human beings even when they acted like sheep. “Thegood shepherd’’ he said, “calls his sheep by name.” Give a man or a woman a name and he/she is no longer a sheep - he/she is an Grey Central news REMEMBRANCE DAY by S. Boyd and K. Ken- On November 11, at Grey Central we had a Remembrance Day Cere mony. The Senior Choir sang a song called “God of Our Fathers.” After we sang we had a moment of silence and sang O Canada. We listened to compositions that Grade eights wrote and listened to readings out of the Bible also. The class teachers pciked two children from each grade to walk up on the stage and pin a poppy on the cross. Then we all rose and said the Lord’s Prayer. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our Remembrance Day Ceremony. WE RECYCLE by R. VanVeen and R. Veitch On Monday, November 14 we started a recycling program at our school. These boxes are blue and say “We Recycle’’. There is a box in each classroom. We can recycle old paper like blank, lined, and graph paper, but we cannot recycle construction paper or anything like that. Then we send the paper away to the Huron County Board Office, there they recycle the paper and the money goes into the school system. Soif you make a mistake putyour paper in the recycling bin to help our school out. like sheep? individual. Jesus treated each per son as an individual person. That gave them hope. For, if someone we love and respect treats us with love and respect, we feel we must have some value. Jesus came to remind humankind that they were made for something better than blindly fol lowing the crowd. And he believed in humankind. He showed it by laying down his life for them, whether they were friend or enemy. All this he believed was the will of God. We say that we follow him. Do we dare to be like him? Haveagood day, and using the “Peri Pasha” of Melito: Peace to the one who wrote, and to the one who reads, and to those who love the Lord in simplicity of heart. i Blyth Christian HIGHWAY z|\ Reformed Church 4,blyth | November27 - 10a.m. & 2:30p.m. Rev.
