Blyth Rep Atoms
score 2 victories
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Atoms played two solid
games last week and, as a result,
added two more wins to their record.
Blyth overcame some early game
jitters last Wednesday, November
16 before rebounding for a solid 5-2
exhibition win over a strong Clinton
squad.
Clinton scored 30 seconds into the
game but Jason Rutledge tied the
game for Blyth three minutes later
with assists from Ryan Chamney and
Peter Craig. Clinton quickly scored
to take the lead again but Blyth
scored two more goals of their own
before the first period ended as they
began to dominate the contest.
Jason Rutledge and Ryan Cham
ney set up Scott Arthur who quickly
tied the game as the Clinton goalie
was trapped out of position. Christo
pher Howson then scored the winner
as Brad Anderson made some nifty
moves from the blueline to the goal
crease to set him up.
Peter Craig added an unassisted
marker midway through the second
period as he stole the puck deep in
the Clinton zone and put a high shot
over the goalie’s shoulder. Scott
Arthur scored a powerplay goal for
Blyth late in the period as he
one-timed a perfect goal mouth
pass from Jason Rutledge to end the
game scoring.
The teams played a scoreless third
frame as Blyth recorded a strong 5-2
victory.
The Atoms then travelled to
Huron Park Friday, November 18
where they were equally impressive
in a 6-1 win, as they scored two goals
in every period. Christopher How-
son was positioned perfectly in front
of the net to score Blyth’s first goal
on a power play, with an assist from
Brian McNichol.
With only 33 seconds left in the
opening period, Jason Rutledge
made a perfect pass to send Ryan
Chamneyinaloneon the Huron Park
goaltender. Ryan made this encoun
ter no contest as he upped the score
to 2-0.

the victory. Jamie Smith’s second
goal of the game from Grant Jarvis
and Shane Wilson tied the score just
11 seconds after the Huron Park
goal. Two minutes later it was Trevor
Machan putting Brussels ahead with
an assist from Randy Beuermann.
Another minute later Randy Beuer
mann wrapped up the scoring with
an assist from Brad Mulvey.
Early in the second period Brian
McNichol blasted the puck over the
fallen, and shell-shocked, opposi

breakaway. Goaltenders Chris Lee
and Mike de Jong’s bid for a shared
shut-out was thwarted late in the
game but Blyth closed out the game
scoring as Brian McNichol’s screen
ed shotfound the mark with an assist
from Christopher Howson.
The team played two well-execut
ed games last week and hopefully
the momentum will continue this
week as they play a return match in
Clinton on Tuesday, November 22
and they host Brussels tonight,
Wednesday, November 23 at 7:15.
