The Citizen, 1988-11-23, Page 18PAGE 18. THE CITIZEN. WEDNESDAY. NOVEMBER 23, 1988. Belgrave Belgrave fair executive returned Compiled by Mrs. Helen Stonehouse. Phone 887-9487 Childrens' Sunday at Knox The annual meeting of the Belgrave, Blyth and Brussels School Fair Board was held Tuesday, November 15 at the Belgrave Community Centre. The fair will be held again next year and the date was set for Wednesday, September 13, 1989. This year’s list of officers will remain the same and they are as follows: Past President, Bruce Campbell; President, Kenneth A large congregation of members, relatives, and friends were present for the Sunday morning service, November 20 at Knox United Church, Belgrave. This was Children’s Sunday and also the date chosen to administer the Sacrament of Baptism to Jeremy Montgomery, son of Mrs. Joane Chapman; Andrew John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Procter; Garritt Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Vincent; and James Daniel and Christine Melissa, children of Mr. and Mrs. James Wharton. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the service using Scripture readings from Luke 3, which relates the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Mr. Roberts stated baptism is one of the most important things, which we as Christians, do. It is very intricate in its meaning. Firstly, the Sacrament of Baptism takes us back to Jesus. It reminds us of Jesus on the cross. The first pointer is that baptism is something God has already done. God brings salvation to all nations. When we say “Yes” to God we make the offer of God’s salvation our own. Secondly, baptism points to the resurrection. It always points to the future. The destiny of humanity is in God’s kingdom. Baptism says ‘‘I guarantee what God will do.” His kingdom is mine; the future is mine; it is a promise for ourselves.” Baptism is a call to us to believe and have faith. It is a call to service witness, to commit ourselves to the Community of Faith. It is used only once. Variegated flower arrangements beautified the sanctuary. The an them ‘‘The Joy of the Lord is My Strength’ ’, sung by the 13 members of the Children’s Choir with Mrs. George Procter, organist, added to the meaningful service. The offering stewards were David McKee, Ben Barnes, Steven Nixon and Jack R. Taylor. Refreshments and a social hour followed the service. Couple celebrates 40th anniversary Relatives, neighbours and friends gathered in the Bluevale Commun ity Hall, Saturday evening to extend best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar RR 4, Wingham in honour of their 40th wedding anniversary which was November 20. Here is an example -- have you ever popped a pizza box in the oven “just for a second”, only to smell the scorched box moments later? That smell is the cardboard turning into gas. Heat the pizzaup.buttakeitoutofthebox first.
