demonstration
Melville Guild met in the parlour
of the Presbyterian Church on
November 15 at 8 p.m.
Fourteen members and three
visitors were present. Joanne King
and Mary Davidson were convenors
for the meeting. Following the
devotions Joanne read a story about
Conrad, a cobbler, who was expect
ing a visit from the Lord.
Due to the absence of Mrs. Klaus
of Walton who was unable to attend
due to illness in the family, Joanne
gave an excellent talk and demon
stration on reflexology and deep
muscle relaxation.
Kathleen Semple invited the
group to her home for the Christmas
meeting. Each member is reminded
tobring something for the lunch.
The usual gift is to be given to the
Nursing Home and poinsettias to the
shut-ins. There will be a gift
exchange at the Christmas meeting.
Following adjournment, lunch
was served.

Merchants plan shopping sprees
There’ll be a chance to see just
how fast Brussels shoppers can
move when some lucky shopper in
Brussels gets a one-minute shopp
ing spree next Monday night as the
Brussels Merchants’ Christmas
Shopping Spree promotion gets
underway.
It will be the first of five shopping
sprees sponsored by the 13 partici
pating merchants (in addition four
other Brussels businesses are sup
porting the event).
The winner of the shopping spree
will have 30 seconds free shopping in
each of the Brussels EMA and the
Brussels Village Market stores (with
certain limitations such as the fact
that only three items of any one kind
can be taken and the winner must be
sure to get items from three
designated areas of the store). Those
who may not feel fast on their feet
will be able to get a designated
shopper to take their place.
The shopping spree will take place
each Monday night at 6 p.m. Draws
to see who will win the spree will be
held each Saturday at noon from
entries deposited in the drum at the
Brussels Post Office.
Now thank we all our God who wondrous things hath done.

The Christmas meeting of the
Brussels and District Horticultural
Society was held in the library on
November 14 beginning with a pot
luck supper at 6:30
Forty members and guests sat
down to the colourful tables decorat
ed by the supper committee - Jane
Grasby, Jane White and Florence
McArter. Everyone was given a
hearty welcome by the president,
Jane White, followed by secretary’s
and treasurer’s reports. Alice Bro
thers made a motion that we enter a
floatinthe SantaClaus parade on
December 3 seconded by Alice
McArter.
A nominating committee of Jean
Bewley, Jeanne Ireland and Isobel
Gibson was proposed by Eleanor
Hemingway. A discussion concern
ing the Vera Frayne trophy for
overall excellence at the August
Flower Show took place with several
suggestions being offered.
The roll call was answered by “A
Christmas Tradition in our Family
carried on from year to year” which
resulted in many interesting bits of
information. An alternate response
was “A Christmas Tradition from
other Lands.” The door prize was
won by Wilma Hemingway who,
along with Judy Glen, had prepared
the meeting. Margaret McLeod
sang two beautiful solos, “Christ
mas Lullaby” and “O Holy Night”
and then led in the singing of carols.
A Christmas decoration for your
door knob was demonstrated by
Debbie Trollop and everyone pre
sent received materials with which
to construction this gay little article.
Judy Glen, who grows herbs,
showed how to make a pretty angel
from savory and an attractive
Christmas wreath from sage and
dried rose buds.
