Brussels Council briefs Brussels residents get ID cards to use at land-fill site People in the village of Brussels will soon be getting identification cards that will be necessary for gaining access to the landfill site shared with the Township of Morris. The cards will identify the site users as residents of the village and therefore eligible to use the site. Residents of Morris will get the same kind of cards designed tocu t down on use of the site by non-residents. Council held more discussion on the possibility of recycling garbage and agreed to meet in future with a Blyth contractor to discuss his proposal for garbage pickup. Coun cil has already met with a company from Stratford that wants to get involved in a recycling program in the village. Reeve Gordon Workman said he liked the idea of the Stratford company because it was large enough that it would seek markets for everything in garbage that can be recycled. Councillor Malcolm Ja cobs agreed that just having garbage picked up isn’t enough any more. Anyone can pick up garbage and haul it to the dump but that’s not the name of the game anymore, the councillor said. The Stratford company is suppos ed to be preparing a proposal so council decided that both that proposal and the Blyth contractor’s proposal should be considered by the new council in January.***** Building permits were approved to Elizabeth Campbell for a house and Cardiff and Mulvey for a new roof on their office.Me**** The contract for snowplowing village streets for the coming winter was let to Bauer Farm and Garden, the only tender received for the job. The rate will be $36 per hour plus $20 a day standby, up from $35 per hour and $15 standby last year.***** Council began action against another homeowner under the pro perty standards bylaw after a complaint from neighbours about the condition of hisyard. A letteris to be senttothe homeowner giving him until Nov. 30 to have derelict automobile and other litter removed from the property.***** The dead line for removal of the building owned by Topnoth Feeds sitting in the road allowance going into the village’s industrial park has been extended to Nov. 30. The company has been informed by the village lawyer that after that time the building will be removed.***** The firms of Christian Kiar surveyors and B.M. Ross engineers have been called in to help plan for the future of the industrial park. The surveyors are to be asked to advise laying out lots in the 13-acre parcel while the engineer will give advice on streets, drains, water and sewer facilities.***** At the close of the meeting Clerk-Treasurer Hugh Hanly exten- dedavote of thanks toCouncillor Malcolm Jacobs for his term on council since it was his last official meeting of council.
