Phone 887-6645 WMS remembers Seven members and two visitors attended the November meeting of the W.MS. at the home of Yvonne Knight. The meeting opened with President Donna Knight reading “Remembrance Day” and “Iranian Passenger Planes” from the Novem­ ber President Record. She welcomed Mrs. Allan McTag- gart and Mrs. Clayton Edward from Goderich. The hymn “From Ocean unto Ocean “was sung. Two minutes silence was followed by a short poem relating to the observance of remembrance day. “0 God of love. O King of peace’' was read by the leader. Laura Strickler. Yvonne read the scripture, John 8: 31-36, and the meditation on these verses was entitled “True Freedom”. A read­ ing “A Soldiers Prayer” from the Glad Tidings was read. Mrs. Edward, the Presbyterial visitor, gave a delightful talk on Remembrance. She covered the subject as it relates to war, and also as it reminds us of communion as a day of remembrance. Herfather, the late Rev. D.J. Lane was a padre in the war and he carried a small leather kit on a strap from his shoulder. It contained all the essentials for giving communion on the battlefield, in hospital, or wherever needed. It contained the silver chalice with a glass insert for wine, a little wooden box for the bread, and three small linen cloths for a drumhead table cover, and serviettes. All of the contents were decorated with a Maltese cross. Laura thanked Mrs. Edward for her interesting talk. The roll call was a verse of remembrance. Eleanor Stevenson reported briefly on the meeting at Camp Kintail. Each group is to contribute a banner for the 75th anniversary of the W.M.S. in London next summer. The leader read “God is counting on you”. The December meeting is to be a pot luck dinner on December 7 at the home of Eleanor. “O Canada” was sung and all repeated the Mizpah Benedic­ tion. Lunch was provided by Laura and Eleanor. Foresters Matheson, Kumm presented with 40-year pins The Canadian Foresters Court Woodbine M100 held their annual banquet and pin night at the Cranbrook Community Centre Tues­ day, Nov. 5. Norm Hill and and SisterNancy Jean Craig conduc­ Brussels Wl honours Norm Alexander On November 9 the Majestic Women’s Institute opened their meeting with the minutes of the last meeting and treasurer’s report presented by Doris McCall. A kitchen committee consisting of Kathy Bridge and Iona Moore were appointed. Evelyn Mair presented a sum­ mary on Norman Alexander and informed us of his passing on. She then introduced Paul Whittengro- pher, who was taking Mr. Alexan­ der’s place. He showed us slides on the Maitland Valley Conservation Area and resources in our area, and told us how we could correct our ways with our environment and how farmers could be educated with newer methods. Jane De Vries thanked the ted a sing song which was enjoyed by all. Sister Jessie, and new executive member, Bro. Jud Milburn and Sister Lorna. Forty year pins were presented to Bro. Angus Matheson and Bro. Ted Kummand25yr.pinstoBro. Donald Clark and Bro. Stewart Steiss. Bro. Robt. Bremner received his past president pin. Madalene Steiss, assisted by Sister Mary Ellen Jacklin guest speaker. Roll Call, “Whatusedoyou make of waste paper, rags and nylons” was answered by the members. Kathy Bridge informed members of the recycling done by the Morning Discussion Group at the United Church. Peggy Cudmore gave a report on the County Rally. The Scholarship went to Charlene Stephenson. Ida Evans motioned that we give Mrs. Van Beek a donation due to their fire. Alice McArter seconded it. On December 2, the Institute will put on a program at the Nursing Home. The committee consists of Iona Moore, Jane DeVries, Ida Evans and Peggy Cudmore. Millers celebrate 40th anniversary The Cranbrook W.I. catered for the 40th wedding anniversary of Dave and Dorothy Miller on Nov. 12 in the Community Centre. Mrs. Miller is the former Dorothy Hueth- er. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bardoel and girls of Wartburg visited recently with John and Nancy Vanass and family. There will be a card party on Dcember 6 with the committee of Ida Evans, Ruth Galbraith, Eleanor Hemingway and Wilma Heming­ way. Pegg Cudmore made a motion to pay the Fair Board which was seconded by Wilma Hemingway. Edna McLellan reported on the area convention with the theme “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. She spokeonwaste management, the 1989 Jubilee and gave a quiz on how well you listen and a poem. A reminder was given for the 4-H Achievement Program on December 1, at the Brussels Legion. Grace was sung followed by a lunch honoring Peggy Cudmore on her 80th birthday, and Isabel Adams who had a birthday in the summer. Support Ken Dunlop on November 21st Stop the Mulroney Trade Deal!
