Phone 887-9487 and shut-in visits were recorded. Mrs. Robena McBurney read the minutes of the last meeting and Mrs. Cloakey gave the financial report. It was agreed to hold the next meeting November 28. Each lady brought a story or poem on Armistice which were read. Mrs. Margaret Siertsema read a poem and Mrs. McBurney read a story on El Salvadore. Mrs. Scott closed the meeting with prayer and served a lovely lunch. WMS remembers The W.M.S. held their meeting Monday, November 7 at the home of Mrs. Mac Scott who opened with a call to worship on Remembrance. * ‘ Dear Lord and Father of Mankind ’ ’ was sung and Mrs. Scott led in prayer. Mrs. Lottie Scott read scripture and Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read a meditation on “Now the day is over”. The hymn. “Come Let Us sing of a Wonderful Love’ ’ was sung. The roll call was answered by a verse on Remembrance and 35 sick W/ to celebrate hall's 100th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor and their aunt Mrs. Ann Collins of Sarnia. Dinner guests on Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar were Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Douse of Galt, Mrs. Irlma Edgar and Mrs. Winni- fred Johnston of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. The November meeting of the W.I. will be held November 15 at 8:15 p.m. when a celebration will be held commemorating 100 years for the hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna attended the wedding of their great-nephew Newton-Hanna in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lapeer, Michigan on Saturday, November 12a ndwe re weekend guests with their nephew and niece Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hanna of Columbia­ ville, Michigan. Jennifer Black ran in the Canadian Cross-Country Championship in Etobicoke on November 6. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C. W. met in the schoolroom of the Church with 1 1 present and Mrs. Sarah Anderson in charge. She opened the meeting with reading of Isaiah 2: 4 and the minutes and treasurer’s report. Mrs. Alice Scott is to arrange the Christmas program; the time and place is to be arranged by Mrs. Dorothy Coultes. Nominations were made for officers for 1989. Mrs. Mary Hunter gave the 12 tables at euchre EUCHRE Twelve tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the Women’s Institute Hall, Belgrave, Wednesday, November 9. .Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt; low lady, Mrs. Leslie Vincent; second high lady, Mrs. RobertGrasby; lucky draw, lady, Mrs. Ross Turvey; high man, Ross Turvey; low man, Herb Clayton; second high man, Mrs. Lois Hart, (playing as a man); lucky draw, man, Mrs. Jas. R. Coultes, (playing as a man). There will be euchre again Wednesday, November 16 starting at 8 p.m. introduction and piayer for the worship. The hymn, “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross” was sung. Mrs. Hunter read parts from Hebrews 11 and 12 and from Nations at War, also brought to attention from the Readers’ Digest the article “Eternal Requiem, Canada’s Book of Re­ membrance,” where the pages turn slowly and every name is read one day a year. The hymn “I need Thee every hour” was followed with prayer by Mrs. Hunter. Mrs. Edith Vincent continued the study of St. Matthew, 5: 13 - 50. In the meditation, the inscriptions on the Hoover Dam were mentioned, she showed slides of the Hoover Dam which were taken by her when on holidays. They were Duane Barlow, the Dr. R. M. Clooney and Dr. W. P. Trainor Science Scholarship, $200; Jean Locking, the Herbert G. Zilliax Memorial Scholarship, $150; Bev Stevenson, the Listowel Junior Farmers’ Scholarship, $100; Lynn Winger, the Mary E. Sharpe Memorial Fund, $510; and David Lamontreceived two awards, the Nelson and Hannah Vernon Family Awardy, $75 and the Royal Canadian Legion Bursary, Listowel Branch 259, $200. Congratulations to all the grades. The three Ethel 4H clubs Wednes­ day, hosted a sumptuous meal for their mothers’ leaders and W.I. members. The W.I. ladies then had their own meeting followed the meal. PEOPLE Bob and Isabel Bremner hosted an 87th birthday for Isabella McMi­ chael of Listowel. Those helping to celebrate the occasion were Joan Morgan, Jillian and Kristen of Ilderton; Fred and Brenda Phillips of Belfast; Maurice and Katheryn Nesbitt, Lee, Rae and Jessica of Southwold; Mary and Karl Rasz- mann and Kevin of Monkton; Nolan and Karen Wettlaufer of Tavistock; Bill and Elma Steel of Guelph, Marie Davidson, Kerry and Brian of Stratford, Andy McMichael of Lis­ towel and Andrew and Doris Brem­ ner of Ethel.
